The silly season of American politics hit full stride with Senator Hillary Clinton charging Barack Obama with plagiarism for taking words from a speech made by the governor of Massachusett and the unpardonable sin of using HER ideas in his speeches. Governor Deval Patrick, a supporter of Obama, made a speech defending the power of [...]
Does politics get you hard?
Mr. Clinton really seems to love it!
Since it looks like Obama may win the primaries, Hilary might be seeing more of Mr. Clinton's uhhh, love?
As a Conservative I am very unhappy with Republicans. Well, I have been unhappy with the party for quite some time, but now the Republican voters have made me unhappy. How can anyone who calls themselves a Republican, read the platform, vote in these numbers for John McCain?!?!? This is very disheartening to me, because we Americans need to bring our government back under Constitutional control, not keep marching us towards socialism/communism. I am very tired of the fight, but that does not mean I am giving up! I hope you will muscle through with me! We have no hope in a good President now, but we can still fight for a conservative republican congress. that is our next battle and even if we lose we have got to keep fighting issue by issue. we must fight on regardless of the odds or our fatigue. think of this like Seal Team Buds training, now matter how exhausted you are do not ring the bell! Stick to your conservative principals and pass them on to your friends and family. We can win
John was sitting in the foyer, slowly taking swigs of whisky. It was evident from his face that he was disturbed. Doorbell rang. He got up, keeping his glass aside on the tea table. As he opened the door, it was Anjeni in front of him.
“ I was trying your mobile since long.. But it seems it is off...” Anjeni came in.
“ I put it off... to get rid of the press.. and their continuous calls...”
I am proud of what the democrats are doing with being so historic with these two candidates. I really like them both very much. I would be happy with either one winning the final nomination. Hillary has more experience with everything she has gone through with knowing what to expect. Barack does have less experience but does give change that allows us to move forward. Even though I would never vote for him. I am surprised by republican Mike Huckabee. He has really been fighting an amazing race with the lack of money he has. I do give him complements on that with something to be said with what he has accomplished. The election with what has been going is just amazing how this race has been going. It is like a horse race or something. In my lifetime this is the most exciting election I have witnessed because so many historic things going on with it. - Political T-Shirts
Going into Super Tuesday, I hope the voters bear some very important things in mind. I call them irresponsible politics. Others call them hot issues. Call them what you will, but these are the things that stand to do untold damage to this country if left unchecked. Here’s a look at just six hot button [...]

I have been thinking about the importance of voting in elections for the right president. After dealing with the incompetent Bush administration it makes me realize how important it is to vote. If we had a different president would we have the loss of jobs, no money for schools, the war and even the attack of 911. I guess no one knows those answers for sure but it does make me think what if we had another president would life be different right now. What surprises me is that George W Bush was elected in the first place then selected again for a second term. I don’t hate George W Bush as person but I dislike him as President. I think he should be impeached but I know that will not happen with elections around the corner. The individuals who had a bad influence on him for most or all of the bad decisions made are Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. The George W Bush administration is one the worst we ever had in the United States at least in my short lifetime. - My Blog on Jimmy Carter St

I watched TV debates the same words are being said it starts to sound the same after while. Who is a better candidate I don’t know yet. I like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. I am very much undecided who I like better to be honest I like both. Barack does have less experience but does give change. Hillary has more experience with everything she has gone through with knowing what to expect. Whoever becomes president will have a gigantic job ahead of them. In away more experience does make me feel better and relieved. Although does come a time for a new era to begin with change allows us to move forward. My thoughts whoever becomes the president I do hope it is a democrat. - Books Barack Obama - Books Hillary Clinton

There is a little of everything in this Catholic Carnival - from great information about Saints and Cardinals to incisive looks at our political culture today. I started to organize it more, but it just felt more like life when I left it a little messy. Without any other jibber-jabber, here's the Catholic Carnival:
Spending a Year in Good Company at Just Another Day of Catholic Pondering reflects on Sarah's patron Saints for this year: Sts. Paul and Barnabas. She also includes links to find your patron Saint for this year.
Things I'm Learning from Saint Catherine of Siena at Postscripts from the Catholic Spitfire Grill does just what the title suggests and explores judgmentalism and personal holiness.
What's Intent Got to Do With It? at We Belong to the Lord answers the question with a few examples that perfectly explain. Relativism is everywhere.

A whole raft of other bloggers, pundit types, and media notables have weighed in the flap over Barack Obama’s praise of Ronald Reagan, including John Edwards, who I think is entirely correct of course here.I would just ask that others consider this latest dustup in context with these moments and wonder why the senator from Illinois lapses into rhetoric and actions that end up complementing anything that could come out of the RNC playbook when “crunch time” arrives. Yes, I know he’s a bit “green” after all on this stage, which isn’t his fault entirely, but it’s bad enough when the Repugs trip all over themselves with their “Gipper love” – I can’t think of a word to describe how unseemly it is when a Dem engages in it also.Update: Wow, Markos, way to take a shot at John Edwards and totally ignore Obama's habit of resurrecting right-wing talking points which you yourself have noted in the past (and you even managed to plug your book in the process...dag, what a pro

It's interesting to see the rise of the Libertarian movement in the US:
Atlas!Liberty Awards Twelve Political Scholarships
Atlas!PAC has changed their name to Atlas!Liberty. Their mission is to give Libertarian candidates the tools they need to win elections. Towards that end, Atlas!Liberty is committed to educating their members in contemporary campaigning technology and techniques. Toward this end, they have awarding scholarships to the Campaign and Elections annual seminar “The Art of Political Campaigning”. The scholarship covers the registration fee, transportation to and from Washington, DC, hotel and some incidental travel expenses. Here’s a list of twelve recent scholarship recipients:

Last night, I gave my son his first lesson in what might be considered politics—specifically the manner by which television commercials sometimes lie to manipulate the minds of consumers. He seemed rather disturbed by the lesson, which centered around “Green Bags,” a product that advertises on Cartoon Network, sometimes appearing while we watch Spongebob. After seeing the commercial just once, my son was sold on the concept of “Green Bags,” and even told my wife the next day that she should “stop throwing your money away and buy Green Bags”—a quote taken right from the television.
This week's Catholic Carnival seems to be all about the pieces of our lives that make up our national culture. It seems appropriate to discuss our culture at the start of a new year - we even have posts challenging us to improve it (through learning and teaching our Faith). So without further adieu, here's the Catholic Carnival:
Faith: that sustains us and our culture.
As a first time religious ed teacher (I have first graders), I can attest to the truth of Catholic Matriarch in My Domestic Church's submission. But it's more than that! She offers A Catechetical Challenge for 2008. Are you up to the task?

Ayaz Amir, a renowned Pakistani journalist, who is writing columns for the Dawn for the last 24 years, has said that journalism and popular politics do not mix although they are bread and butter to each other. "I am not a politician who has come to journalism but a journalist who has occasionally dabbled in politics — not drawing-room politics, for which I have not much talent, but constituency politics," he said. "Simply because I have a constituency to run from, those coming before me having carved out a space for themselves in local politics," Ayaz wrote in his weekly column in the Dawn. Commenting on journalists dabbling into politics, he writes that one or two journalists in recent times have made their mark in diplomacy, none more so than our distinguished High Commissioner in London. A few have clambered up politics’ backstairs, through the Senate (the most convenient backdoor of all) or by attaining party rank, friend Mushahid coming to mind in
HONG KONG (Reuters) - Ousted Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said on Tuesday he wanted to return to politics after the party he backed emerged from weekend general elections as the largest, then promptly reversed himself. Thaksin told a news conference in Hong Kong he expected to return to Thailand from exile "by April at the latest" and prove himself innocent of corruption charges brought by investigators appointed by the military after the September 2006 coup. Then he said; "I want to go back to politics and go back and live my life as a normal citizen," he said, reversing frequent statements since the bloodless coup that he was finished with politics, comments which few in Thailand believed. However, later in the news conference, Thaksin, who had said in exile his wife would divorce him if he went back into politics, said he was done with politics. "I don't want to go back to politics," he said when asked to clarify his position in view of t

These days it seems to me to be the Labour Party left which is acting as the brakeman which prevents the English left moving forward; and not as was often the case in the past the far or Trotskyist left. What ever one may feel about the antics of the SWP and some of the rest of what in the UK is called idiotically the far left. They at least do not go to the working classes and reinforce any illusions working class people might still have in the Labour Government. But this is just what the Labour Party left continue to do when they call for a vote for the labour party come election time, despite knowing full well that since 1997 both the Blair and Brown government have been the bulwark of big business and privatization within local government the NHS and the economy as a whole. After the invasion and continuos occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, plus the recent research issued by the Sutton Trust and the OECD report in which it was claimed Britain had the lowest socially mobility out o

Supporters of South Korean presidential candidate Lee Myung-bak have been secretly spraying a perfume called "Great Korea" at his rallies. On Election Day they'll go to voting booths around the country and spray it there. "It will remind people of the identity of Lee Myung-bak," a representative of Lee's Grand National Party said. "The concept of the perfume is hope, victory and passion." Maybe, but like a scent strip in a magazine, it still stinks.
Have been many debates so far the democratic and republican side of the US president candidates for 2008 election. I watched some of the debates on TV of thinking is that is it so early in the election process that things could change so much. Like candidates dropping out or new candidates joining or even candidate scandals that could surface from now to then. It is somewhat hard to really decide whom I like yet because so much could change yet like things do all the time in life. I am an independent voter who will vote democrate. Even though I will vote that way I have favorites in both parties equally. I enjoy the run of the race on each side in what they have to say I find this election very exciting. It is all so wonderful I find it very thrilling the possibility of a woman president. I will not say who are my favorites yet I do like many of them I am still in the process of deciding whom I like the best. It is only 2007 much can happen between now and then into 2008. I think it wi

I received some replies to my email to the Democrats! I posted a shortened version on their Facebook, and these are some of the comments that people sent back:"my experience was rather different i had so much fun on the day (i was there from 7 - 6) and met some lovely people in the party. its a shame that your experience was bad - i suggest giving it another go sometime.""I'm sorry that you had a bad experience Milk and missed a family function. Your dedication to stand up for what you believe in is admirable and please don't let this put you off. Please remember though that the Democrats are not a major party and pretty much everyone is a volunteer, candidates included. The voting system is very error filled with problems by way of machines and technology that it does worry me with authenticity of the outcome of the vote. What I cannot figure out one of the most important things in the United States is voting but not every state has the same voting method. I think every state should have the same voting system it should be a law or a requirement that every place votes using the same system or method. In my common sense mind why is it even different in each state in the first place. This is such an important issue there has to be a good way of voting that will make it legitimate and error free with a respectable result that will be respected by everyone. Voting affects both parties in so many important ways with all the problems with the last elections that democrats and republicans would want come up with some kind of solution. Like always nothing ever seems to get done especially something as important as this. This makes me nervous with the fact can

David D. Kirkpatrick of the New York Times wrote this today about Willard Mitt Romney’s 1968 ministry in Paris as a Mormon missionary, when he and other Americans faced often-irate French, angry with the U.S. over the Vietnam War (and I give Romney credit for making this sacrifice, more than that made by some of the other Repug candidates for president). If you don’t mind, though, I’ll just skip ahead and answer the question of whether or not what Romney dealt with at this time somehow may have made him question our current quagmire in Iraq. I think it’s a reflection of Romney’s utter lack of curiosity or intellect that the answer is a resounding no; the only moment in Kirkpatrick’s story where you learn of any kind of emotional expression by The Mittster is as follows…When (Romney) heard over a car radio in 1978 that the (Mormon) church would offer blacks full membership, he said, he pulled over and cried.Gee gosh, Mitt, what a shame that everyone in your faith isn’t as
