By Mike Collett-White LONDON (Reuters) - A painting of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, billed as his first official portrait since he rose to power in 1997, will be unveiled in London in March, it was announced on Saturday. The painting by Jonathan Yeo features a vivid red poppy on Blair's jacket lapel in what the British artist said was a clear reference to his broadly unpopular decision to back the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. In Britain the poppy is worn every November to commemorate soldiers who died in battle. The portrait was commissioned by the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn to which barristers belong. The 54-year-old Blair, who was Labour prime minister from 1997 to 2007, was a barrister before entering politics. The former leader, now acting as a peace envoy to the Middle East, is depicted looking at the viewer intensely. His face is deeply lined and he wears a pale blue shirt, tie and jacket and a bright red poppy. Blair sat for Yeo in November 2007. &qu
Pajamas Media - The current level of self-censorship is deeply problematic. “Their eagerness to assume the role of subjugated infidels living under Islamic rule can only demoralize the population and embolden the extremists.”The art that you do not see reflects what everyone already sees. And what we see is the preemptive surrender of public freedoms in the name of appeasing the continent’s restive Muslim underclass.Grayson Perry, a Turner Prize recipient and England’s most famous cross-dressing potter, has been heralded for his controversial explorations of religious imagery, which include a vase entitled “Transvestite Brides of Christ” and a portrayal of the Virgin Mary that is best left to the imagination. Yet apparently there are some boundaries that even groundbreaking artists dare not cross.“I’ve censored myself,” Perry told the Times, admitting that he treads lightly around radical Islam. “The reason I haven’t gone all out attacking Islamism in my art is be

rotateMe is a freeware application for Symbian OS 3rd edition devices, which allows you to switch your phone screen from portrait to landscape and vice versa. It was created by a French developer, By Samir. One of the best things about iPhone and iTouch is the way it auto-rotates to landscape or portrait mode, depending on the way you hold it. Thanks to By Samir, you can now have this on your N95 too!rotateMe v.20rotateMe apparently uses the motion sensor already available on the N95, which is primarily used by the camera to change orientation when taking pictures. Here is a video of rotateMe at work on N95 (French).Version 2.0 is also available for N73 and N80, although there is no automatic changing due to the lack of motion sensor on these two phones. But you can use a hotkey to switch between landscape and portrait modes.Note: You need to sign the .sis file before you install it.

Book Review: "The Portrait of a Lady" by Henry James (American novelist), published 1881Henry James succeeds in ushering our frustration with Isabel Archer from shortly after we met her, to the very end. His book ends rather too-life like, without resolution, without hope for the future, leaving the reader’s understanding of Isabel "in air". Or, as he says in his notes "en l’air".*Isabel seems like the perfect heroine. She is poised, intelligent, beautiful, admirable, or so everyone tells us. But her actions and her own words hardly reinforce this view of her. In her own words, her thoughts are small and limited, and yet everyone observes that her ideas have no bound. So who is right? Unfortunately, author Henry James never helped us determine the answer. This is the third time I've read about Miss Archer. I say Miss Archer for to me she will always be that. Mrs. Osmond, as she later evolved to be, seemed always to be a wrong note in my ear. Miss Archer has potential, opportunity, a
Photo retouching is a time-consuming and highly skilled process that usually requires years of practice and considerable proficiency with applications such as Adobe Photoshop. With Portrait Professional, you can achieve similar magazine cover-quality portraits by simply marking out a few key points and moving some slider controls. The application is based on a model of human faces that has been pre-trained by examining photos of hundreds of people, of varying levels of attractiveness, in well-shot portraits. With this database of facial knowledge, the software takes your original photo and makes adjustments to balance and subtly shape the subject's facial features while also improving on lighting and reducing camera defects.Paul Monckton, Personal Computer WorldFor more information : pcw

Here is a self-portrait of my Mommie and me! It was very very fun to share the picture with my Mommie. See, I am looking right into the camera, too. Here is how we did it: in front of a mirror!
I wrote the following self-portrait for Oxford Muse - a charitable organisation which is trying to create a human map of Oxford by writing portraits of the people who live here. Their website will explain in more detail if you're interested. Last Saturday night, while most people in college were revelling in the Back to School bop, I just sat down and started writing (prompted by a few questions) and created my self-portrait. Had I been in a different mood, it could have turned out quite different. It is quite long, but here goes anyhews:This is DogWhen I was a child, I used to be dependent on a stuffed toy called "Dog" - a much loved, but worn out Snoopy. He was always with me as a comforter. Without him I found it difficult to sleep, I felt alone and helpless without him. I remember one weekend when he was left behind in Dalmellington after my mum's yoga class. He was sitting on top of that piano, and I was crying my eyes out all weekend. I think someone must have made a special tr
