This prank is one of the funniest i 've seen on t.v. The poor victims have gone crazy seeing the guy sinking in the water. We know that the part of the TSP that involved tapping calls was not exactly worrisome to the cabal of civil liberties invaders who oversaw the program. It was the data mining, probably the most innocuous-sounding part of the program, that was the most contentious, prompting the likes of John Ashcroft, no fan of individual privacy, to fight the program from his hospital bed.
What does this tell us about the dimensions of the “data mining?” I’d say it tells us a lot. That these guys were willing to resign if it were not
This reminds me of a Halloween prank my friends and I pulled in high school grade. We hollowed out several pumpkins and filled them with cement (cement mixed by guy putting a sidewalk in at a friend’s parent’s house). When the cement had hardened, we put the tops back on, loaded them up in the cars, and headed out to a rival high school’s town (damn Vikings). Once we got there we set one of those bad boys out in the middle of a lane on the main drag. Within 5 minutes, some meathead typical of this high school spotted the pumpkin and slowed down….until he realized it was a harmless little pumpkin that his souped-up Camero could easily demolish. At this point he pressed the pedal to the metal and was probably going 45 when he ran over our little joke. Man, the sound that cement pumpkin made when it hit his front axel was amazing. The guy slammed on the breaks, fishtailing back and forth. At this point we jumped in our cars and hauled ass outta there.
