MUMBAI (Reuters) - India's gold futures eased slightly on Monday on profit booking in overseas markets to benefit from a more than one week high, and analysts said it may remain rangebound awaiting fresh cues. "Gold seems to be lethargic and it may remain so until London opens," said Shailendra Kumar, head of research at Sharekhan Commodities Pvt Ltd. Kumar said the Group of Seven nations' approval on Saturday for sale of gold by the International Monetary Fund from April had the potential to ease gold if there was further news on it. Overseas gold was slightly down from Friday's one week high at $922.20 an ounce in the spot market, but was still close to its all time high level of $936.50 an ounce touched on Feb 1. Another analyst at IL&FS Investsmart Commodities Ltd said gold was finding buying support at dips. Earnings for the world's largest drug maker fell to $2.88 billion, or 42 cents per share, from $9.45 billion, or $1.32 per share, a year earlier, when Pfizer reported a big gain from the sale of its consumer health business to Johnson & Johnson. Excluding special items, earnings were 52 cents per share. Analysts on average had forecast 47 cents, according to Reuters Estimates. New York-based Pfizer raised the lower end of its 2008 profit forecast, which excludes special items, to $2.35 per share from $2.31 while keeping the top end at $2.45. NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Ballarpur Industries Ltd said consolidated quarterly profit rose 18 percent, on higher paper prices and on gains from its Malaysian unit. Net profit for Oct-Dec quarter was 738.8 million rupees, compared with 624.5 million rupees in the year ago period. Net revenue for the period rose 25 percent to 6.92 billion rupees from 5.54 billion rupees previous year. Paper production rose about 31 percent to 150,503 tonnes, with almost all the gains coming from the Sabah Forest Industries, the Malaysian company Ballarpur acquired in March 2007. During the quarter, the paper maker had also raised prices of high-margin uncoated paper, which makes up nearly three-fourths of its sales. "There is pressure on the cost side, but we have been able to garner better prices for our uncoated paper. MUMBAI (Reuters) - State-run Dena Bank has posted a 43 percent rise in its October-December net profit due to robust growth in its net interest income, a senior official said on Wednesday. The net profit for the quarter was 1.01 billion rupees, compared with 705.3 million rupees during the same quarter a year earlier. The total income during the period was 8.04 billion rupees, compared with 6.85 billion rupees a year ago. The provisioning towards bad assets were lower as recoveries were better and fresh slippages were also under control, Executive Director, Bhaskar Sen said. The bank's net non-performing assets to net advances were 1.41 percent against 2.47 percent a year ago. Fresh slippages were 816.1 million rupees, against 1.27 billion a year ago. The cost of deposit has gone up by 114 basis points, while the yield on advances went up by 145 basis points, Sen said. The bank's cost of deposit for the quarter was 6 percent, while the yield on advances was 10.18 percen
