I know that most of my readers are non-Californians, so please forgive me for departing into state politics. Yep, it looks like everybody’s favorite pee… oops, we mean Pea (sorry Ferg, it’s hard to live down wetting your pants on stage), is officially off the market. According to celebrity gossip site TMZ, TV hottie Josh Duhamel has popped the question to the singer.
The pair have been dating since 2004. Josh’s rep confirmed [...]
Gosh, that shouldn’t slow evacuations down much at all.
“Officer, the water is at our waists and rising.”
“I’m sorry sir, but we can’t let you through until the power comes back on and we can enter your name in the computerized records and then issue you a RFID wristband.”

The feds are proposing that mortgage brokers freeze rates on adjustable mortgages that are about to reset. Sounds like a politically popular idea, but will it work? And who benefits?
The banks may lower some rates or prevent ARM rates to increase as much as they would normally do, but they will try to put the [...]

It has become routine to expect attacks on the civil liberties of women of child bearing age. Nevertheless, Cincinnati Progressive Action brings to the attention of the readers of the Beacon two current fronts in this struggle.
The e-Government Bulletin - ISSUE 249, 17 October 2007, and blog reports [quoted here in full]:Government websites may be stripped of their 'gov.uk' domain names if they fail to meet tough new standards of accessibility to web users with disabilities, according to confidential draft proposals seen by E-Government Bulletin. The guidelines, entitled 'Delivering inclusive websites: user-centred accessibility', are being drafted by the Central Office of Information, the Whitehall agency which assists public bodies with communications campaigns. If approved, they would mean that existing government sites would have until December 2008 to meet the 'AA' standard set out in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) developed by the World Wide Web Consortium. All new sites would have to confirm immediately."Any new site approved by the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Public Engagement and the Delivery of Service.must conform to these guidelines from the point of publication," the draft guidelines

"It misses the mark because it demonizes toys instead of criminal behavior," said Scott Bach, president of the New Jersey Association of Rifle and Pistol Clubs, which is the National Rifle Association's New Jersey organization.
Excuse me, Mr. Bach? Real guns are weapons of death and destruction and they SHOULD be demonized as the tools of harm that they are! I know that I wouldn't want my child to be running around playing with a toy gun in his or her hand and subsequently growing into an adult who feels a pull toward wanting a real gun as a substitute.Children being children (especially little boys) can have a "gun" whenever they choose to by simply using their hands. All they have to do is extend their index and thumbs out in the international gun gesture and voila! they've used their imaginations and need never hold a toy gun.In Yahoo! Answers, motheroftheyear asked, "Do you let your children play with TOY GUNS? the answers there are very interesting as well as enlightening. I p
Wouldn't this be great! From The Washington Times:A prominent Republican lawyer wants to put a proposal on the California ballot next year that could shake up the 2008 presidential contest to his party's advantage.California awards its 55 electoral votes to the statewide winner — the largest single prize in the nation. But under the proposal, the statewide winner would get only two electoral votes. The rest would be distributed to the winning candidate in each of the state's congressional districts. In effect, that would create 53 races, each with one electoral vote up for grabs. The state voted Democratic in the past four presidential elections. But the change — if it qualifies for one of two primary ballots early next year and is approved by voters — would mean a Republican would be positioned the following November to win about 20 electoral votes in Republican-leaning districts. That is a number equal to winning Ohio. The Presidential Election Reform Act is being pushed by Tho
I've been working on a couple of large projects, (database and web) over the past couple of weeks, so my poor blog has suffered from neglect. There have been several recent items worthy of note, so I've provided a brief...
More and more Israeli commentators are frankly admitting that Israel’s pull-out from Gaza in the summer of 2005 was an open invitation to the forces of radical Islam to set up house in the defenseless territory. A former Israeli national security adviser Gen (ret.) Giora Eiland argues now that the influx of tons of smuggled weapons and explosives into Gaza Strip must be halted at any price. There is a real danger of Hamas importing reinforcements from Syria and Lebanon for its next offensive. Egypt will, as usual, stand aside. Eiland was the only defense official at the time to oppose disengagement as a recipe for bringing Iran and al Qaeda to Israel’s borders. Having been proved correct, he now proposes to limit the damage by recapturing the Philadelphi route and the southern outskirts of Palestinian Rafah, flatten the houses there and evict 15,000-20,000 people. This option would give Israel the chance to start combating Hamas at a point from which the IDF enjoys a position of st
The Ontario Provincial Government has announced that it plans to introduce a new law to protect home owners from real estate fraud. For the last year, real estate fraud has been a hot topic as currently home owners can have their title fraudulently stolen and have money borrowed by the fraudulent owner. If this happens the mortgage is still seen as a valid mortgage and the real home owner can be held responsible for the fraudulent mortgage. Title insurance will protect against real estate fraud for the most part but there are some that speculate that, if the laws were not changed, the insurance companies might be able to claim that since the mortgage was legal then it is not something that should be covered by insurance. The new law would ensure that home owners that fall victim to real estate fraud would get their homes back free of any fraudulent debts, liens or encumbrances. “It is expected that the new legislation will be introduced this fall.” According to the Toronto Real
