Our puppies may be small but they sure can eat! All told we have 20 pups - still or again or however we count them. All under the age of 5 months they are: Extro from Serene’s litter - 14 weeks, Teeny Teena from Bonnie Lassie - 12 weeks, 6 smalls pups from Heather - 7 weeks , Boots’ pups, 8 of them - 7 weeks, Cap - 5 months, Kingston also 5 months last but not least Tara and Mooshka - 5 months old. 25 bags of 18 kg puppy food lasts them 18 days. Not to mention what the big guys eat . Needless to say we go through a lot of dog food. We have been fortunate in filling the van each time we go down on an adoption trip.But the last trip was short of kibble.And we are running critically short of food. So Dave went to buy some. This is a spiced up version of an old classic. Nobody really knows where the name "hush puppy" comes from exactly. I've heard various folk tales (food myths?) which claim that when Southern plantation cooks would be in the middle of frying large quantities of fish they often worked outside, standing around big cauldrons of hot oil and the smell of all that fried fish would draw stray dogs who inevitably would begin whining and begging for food. Sometimes the daily chores seem to be just too much. Puppies, new dogs that have no clue about housetraining, old dogs who forget they were ever housebroken can certainly make a huge mess of living places. It seems like the work never ends. And the thanklessness of the job is overwhelming.
The dogs do prefer a clean area to hang around in but they have no qualms about dirtying it either. Their idea of clean and my idea are not quite the same. As long as they have a clean corner to lie down in is all they ask for.
I think the foam pieces are messy – they think the foam and stuffie parts are great toys. They need toys to stimulate their little brains – to learn to think and reason out problems such as how to get their toy from under the bed?
