This time it’s really real. The WGA has in fact reached a tentative settlement with the AMPTP, which means the end of the strike is potentially only days away. Before everyone can go back to work, though, the guild membership has to vote to lift the strike. And although the referendum is expected to pass, [...]

Two toothless dogs fighting it out. The U.N. won't enforce the sanctions and Iran won't stop nuclear production. Hasn't Iran learned anything from the Saddam follies? Iran warned on Monday of "serious consequences" if the UN Security Council adopts fresh sanctions against Tehran over its refusal to halt sensitive nuclear work. "If a resolution is passed... it will have serious and logical consequences and we will announce them later," Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told a press conference. His comments came as the Security Council was due on Monday to discuss a proposed third set of sanctions over Iran's long-standing refusal to halt uranium enrichment. The sanctions package was agreed upon last week by foreign ministers of the five veto-wielding permanent members -- Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States -- plus Germany. Iran is already under two sets of UN sanctions for its refusal to halt enrichment, the process which makes nuclear fuel but can be extende
By Louis Charbonneau UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Six world powers have agreed that a new U.N. sanctions resolution on Iran would name two more Iranian banks but not put compulsory restrictions on doing business with them, Western diplomats said on Wednesday. The foreign ministers of Britain, France, Germany, the United States, Russia and China agreed on the outlines of a new U.N. sanctions resolution against Iran in Berlin on Tuesday. But diplomats said the draft did not contain the tough punitive economic measures that Washington had been pushing for. In March 2007 the Security Council imposed a second round of sanctions on Iran for refusing to suspend a nuclear program the West fears is aimed at making bombs. Penalties included the freezing of foreign assets of 28 Iranian individuals and entities, including Bank Sepah. The United States and its three European allies had hoped to impose similar restrictions on two other large Iranian banks -- Bank Melli and Bank Saderat, which
Ha! Yeah right. But anyways, it seems that a new resolution containing sanctions for Iran is in the works. I'm sure it will be just as effective as the other ones. World power foreign ministers should agree on a new draft sanctions resolution against Iran at a meeting in Germany on January 22, a French diplomatic source said on Monday. "The ministers should reach agreement tomorrow on a draft resolution to send to New York," the source said, declining to be named. "We are really very close to an agreement." Foreign ministers from the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany are scheduled to meet in Berlin on Tuesday to discuss a possible third U.N. sanctions resolution against Iran for refusing to halt sensitive nuclear work.

By Sue Pleming WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States on Friday played down the chance of major powers agreeing on new U.N. sanctions against Iran when ministers meet in Berlin next week, underlining discord over how to proceed with Tehran. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said there was still no agreement among major powers on a third U.N. Security Council resolution against Iran over its nuclear program. Russian and China have stiffened opposition to putting more pressure on Iran since a U.S. intelligence report last month concluded Tehran halted its atomic weapons program in 2003. The United States, however, has used increasingly harsh language against Iran in recent weeks as it spearheads the drive for more punitive measures against Tehran. McCormack said U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and foreign ministers from the other four permanent members of the U.N. Security Council -- China, Russia, France and Britain -- as well as Germany, would keep working on

How are your New Year's resolutions shaping up as we are into the 2nd week of 2008?How about adding one more?Try living 14 years longer. Doesn't sound bad, does it? Well, if the results of a recently published study are accurate you may be able to do just that. You can read the summary of the article on msnbc.com, or access the complete study here.
One of the best resolutions that you can have is to backup your data because sooner or later you’re sure to lose the lot if you don’t.
In years gone by, backups weren’t so important for normal people. After all, the majority of the information held on their computers was related to games for the kids [...]
Nope. Not gonna do it.No resolutions to break here.I'm just going to keep on keeping on... one day at a time. There just aren't any easy answers. Diets don't work. And Weight Watchers is, without question, a diet. So is everything else out there. I'm going to have to find my own way. Still struggling. Wondering what's next. More questions than answers. Maybe that's a good thing?

I got this meme from Amel. I wasn't going to do it at first, but after MUCH persuading I decided to. No, money wasn't involved. Neither were hot chicks. Too bad, because I could sure use some right now.Anyway...*Start Copy Here*When it comes to New Year’s Resolutions we seem to fall into four categories: 1) quite serious about them, 2) be flippant about them, 3) do it because we feel pressured to, or 4) do not do them. So, the purpose of this little game is to let us know which category you are in. Copy from “*Start Copy Here*” through “*End Copy Here*” and post it. Before "*End Copy Here*" tell us who you are, your site(s) (with link) and your New Year’s Resolution, or not. Then tag as many others as you like, from one to your entire blogroll, your choice. If you like, create an intro paragraph to your post that also acknowledges who tagged you.NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS:Juliana – Juliana's Site - My New Year's resolutions are looking for a part time job, keep blogging, and
I have to exercise early in the morning before my brain figures out what I'm doing. I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me. I have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them. The advantage of exercising every day is that you die healthier. If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country. Walking can add minutes to your life. This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $5000 per month. My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was 60. Now she's 97 years old and we don't know where on earth she is. The only reason I would take up exercising is so that I could hear heavy breathing again. I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to go there. And last but not least: I don't exercise because it makes the ice jump right out of my glass.
To ring in the new year, we're adding a new feature on FoodMayhem: Twitter! Now we can share everything we eat with you, even when we're not near a computer. Look for the section called "Recent Eats" on the right side. Thanks to Martin for the great idea!!

0plugsplug itWe all know what it's like to make a New Year's Resolution with the best of intentions. We start out really positive, really motivated, really strong. No matter what the resolution, though, after about three weeks it just doesn't seem to be at the top of our priority list any longer. With fitness, maybe in the past you have promised yourself that you will meet a certain goal in a certain time this New Year, only to find yourself getting more and more discouraged as time passes and you haven't met that goal. Don't set yourself up to fail! You can create success by doing the following:1.Map out a plan. You have heard the old adage "Those who fail to plan, plan to fail"? Nowhere is this truer than in the area of health and fitness. You simply can't decide to get in better shape or eat right without mapping out steps to follow through. If you decide to go to the gym, you need to decide what you are going to do there. Wandering around the equipment or deciding on the fly will n
2007 has been the year where I start to blog and monetize it and 2008 will be even more exciting. There are many fellow bloggers friends who are relatively surprised with my success in getting a Pagerank 5 in 5 months. But it has also seen a few surprises whereby top bloggers are also demoted due to excessive advertising on their blog too.But nontheless, this is all over and I have thought of a few
The regulars at the gym are already joking about it.
“Have a good workout now,” they say. “Cuz next week, it’ll suck in here.”
That’s because all the folks who have - yet again - made their New Year’s Resolutions will show up. They’ll stick around for a while. Then, around St. Patrick’s Day, the regulars [...]

File this under the “doesn’t the house have anything better to do” department. Tuesday the house voted on a resolution that said Christmas was important. Evidently fighting the war on Christmas has been taking a toll on them, and now that conservatives are fighting back and trying to take back the holiday season, Democrats are [...]
You have yet to be bitten by the electronic book spiel and by the looks of it, the rest of humanity is hardly on fire to hop aboard on the e-reading train either. That doesn’t stop some companies making some really interesting breakthroughs though in the e-reader market. This skinny 6.7in reader from Seiko Epson crams in a stunning 1600 x 1200 pixel resolution, which is a big deal for such a small display. The display itself measures just 3mm thick and a single battery has enough juice to display 1400 pages. Here’s some specs: Terminal measures 180x120mm (B6 size) Thickness: 3mm Weight: 57g Contrast ratio: 8:1 Reflectivity: 43% Redrawing time: 0.7s Battery: one CR1220 button cell battery (1'400 screen redraws) There’s no arrival date or potential price on this yet THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

Help the two globulous brothers in the new action-adventure "SolaRola" to roll, jump and slide over 25 unknown and colourful planets as they experience the craziest adventures. Participating are numerous alien creartures, whose true intentions will be revealed in the course of this hilarious, movie-like story. This rolling game fun is supported by an exclusive soundtrack by Maniacs of Noise, who really made an effort to deliver a smash hit mix of Reggae and Ambience for "SolaRola".Eidos SolaRola 352x416 v1.0.4 S60v3 J2ME Retail-BiNPDA Eidos.SolaRola.240x320.v1.0.4.S60v3.J2ME.Retail-BiNPDAEidos SolaRola v1.0.3 S60v3 N95 J2ME Retail-BiNPDA

This even though he opposes the resolution. Interesting. (Since it’s a resolution, there’s nothing to veto, but apparently he’s chosen not to pressure House Republicans to oppose it.)
(WASHINGTON) — In the midst of a push by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, to pass a resolution labeling the Ottoman (Turk) Empire genocidal for the death of 1.5 million Armenians in 1915, House Republicans have introduced a bill condemning the Roman Empire for “the wholesale slaughter and domination of most of the known world [...]
The Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives passed by a 27-21 vote the resolution which condemns Turkey for its genocidal policies toward Armenians in the early years of the 20th century. The vote came amidst growing tension inside Turkey over murder of 15 soldiers by Kurdish soldiers who retreated into the sanctuary of [...]
The United States Congress and President Bush are on a collision course over the proposed resolution known as “Affirmation of the United States Recording the armenian Genocide” which expresses the feeling of the American people toward Turkey’s genocidal policies against Armenians at the beginning of the twentieth century. As the resolution is being discussed, relations [...]
It now goes to the House floor, where Democratic leaders say there will be a vote by mid-November. There is a companion bill in the Senate, but both measures are strictly symbolic, and do not require the president’s signature.
It should be noted that Bob Dole was the first member of Congress to put forward a [...]
A few days ago 1 out of 2 people set out to do something great - something challenging - and something that will possibly change our life forever - all through a New Year's Resolution. A month the top resolutions: eating healthier, starting a fitness plan, and weight loss.Fitness themed resolutions are by far the most widely pursued new-year goals making making up over half of the proposed new year's resolutions. All too often these half-hazzard resolutions are nothing more than proposed fitness dreams - hopes of accomplishments - never to see the light of fulfillment. In a recent study - after just 7 days into the new year - 1/4 of the crowd has already dropped out. After 1 month that jumps to nearly half - still more dropping as the year progresses. In the end only an estimated 2 out of 10 resolution seekers will stick with it to the end. Why is it that fitness resolutions seem to drop like fly onto flypaper? There are several common mistakes to avoid - that will not only help you to k
Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said, “The passage of a resolution in the US Congress supporting Armenian claims of genocide at the hands of the late Ottoman Empire will irreparably damage the image of the United States and make the Jews too a target of criticism in Turkey”.The US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs is due to vote on the non-binding resolution on Wednesday. The resolution is widely expected to clear the committee and chances are very high that it will be approved in the House of Representatives if it is brought to the floor by speaker Nancy Pelosi. Eight former US secretaries of state wrote a letter last week to Pelosi, who backs the genocide claims, to block the vote. The US administration is also opposed to the measure. More...

{UPDATED 5/18} It is looking like the men sharing the bench with Luzerne County Common Pleas Judge Ann Lokuta may be getting what they hoped for when they got together-- ahem, okay, allegedly got together-- to contrive the charges filed against Judge Lokuta by the Judicial Conduct Board of Pennsylvania late last year. (See the update after the jump -- some of the information appears to have been incorrect, casting some doubt on the report of a deal.)Judge Lokuta recently fired her lawyer, Sam Stretton, supposedly after learning that he was advising the (recently-failed) judicial campaign of her former law clerk, Tom Marsilio. (Marsilio, for his part, was/is supposedly set to be a witness for the prosecution. It has been said that he easily criticized his former employer on the campaign trail when the question was raised. Asked at one gathering how he would work with her, he reportedly told the audience that "no one can work with her". One can be curious as to why and when Marsil
