Ya gotta love the name: Sportsmamma: Living in the Land of Testosterone. I really like the template design, although it needs a little cleaning up here and there. Those fresh colors and the vivid blog header are what catch my eye first thing. The background is striped with baseball uniform stripes, very cute! The design is an Everyday Design, done by Jules. I'm familiar with her fresh designs and admire her work. The header is cocked too far to the left, however. That large block of white space at the right makes the blog look a little messy. Secondly, as much as I love the Georgia font, it doesn't match here. Perhaps a Trebuchet or something more streamlined would work. (I do wish all computers had more than the basic Arial/Sans Serif/Georgia/Trebuchet/Times New Roman. They are getting very, very old. Would someone please program some better fonts?)I love the colors. The blue- which would look too "country" elsewhere, is a nice feminine touch amongst all those baseball stripes and talk
Lowepro brings simplicity to camera bags with its Cirrus TLZ line. These top-loading bags have a single compartment, two Velcro-attach supports, and a memory card pocket.I tested the Cirrus TLZ 25 bag, largest of the line, initially intending to use it with the Nikon D200. The interior dimensions are listed as 6.1Wx4.1Dx8.3H, but the Nikon D200 body is just a little too chunky for it at 5.7x4.4 inches across the back. If you have a more compact DSLR, however, the size is optimal and can even handle a relatively long lens or leave room for cable storage at the bottom of the bag. My Nikon D40 fits perfectly at 5x3.7 inches across the body, with room to slip my fingers around the grip. So your pro DSLR won't fit, but it might be a good choice for your carry-around or backup camera. Lowepro announced new 110, 120 and 140 models for the Cirrus line at PMA this year that should be a better fit for bigger pro models. The new Cirrus bags are available now. There are those who like to learn by reading, there are those who prefer classes, seminars and workshops, there are those who like video instruction, and there are those who’ll take it anyway they can get it. Each approach has its merits. Good DVDs in particular blend several of the strengths of other instruction forms: they are portable, and there’s a human leading you through the process, and best of all, you can go at your pace.My first impression of the “RAW without FUD: How to Shoot RAW without Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt” DVD was amusement at the FUD acronym; I’d never heard it before. But according to the Wikipedia.com entry on FUD, it stands for “Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt.” FUD has explicit roots as a way of describing political disinformation tactics—like those used by many politically oriented talk radio show hosts. But FUD-ing really gained traction in the corporate world in the early 1970s, and since “1991 the term has become generalized to refer to any
Adobe's Photoshop Lightroom 1.1 image workflow software is the latest version of one of the company's most popular photographic tools, providing an editing and organization solution geared toward professional photographers and amateurs who have large catalogs of images to manage. As a tool, Lightroom offers a lot of power, but has also brought a lot of confusion (even among professional photographers) as to how it works, who needs it, and how it differs from Photoshop. While slanted more heavily toward the needs of professional photographers, David Huss and David Plotkin's Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.1 for the Professional Photographer, a new guidebook to the software from Focal Press, attempts to answer some of the pressing questions surrounding the software and provide a detailed, easy-to-read trip through Lightroom's different modules and functions. With a street price around $25, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.1 for the Professional Photographer might be the ideal bit of pre-reading fo
First and foremost Apple touts the new version’s speed. After having spent a week with it, I have to admit it’s justified. I should mention up front that I am not playing with a small library of a few projects,I am basing all my findings on my live library of just more than 100,000 images. It’s safe to assume the performance won’t be any worse on a smaller library. AP2 seemed to perform pretty much the same with 100k files as it does with the 30 or so I played with before converting my library.NOTE: The conversion is a one-way process, make sure to back up your library before you convert to 2.0’s new format. The very first encounter with Aperture 2.0 for photographers will be either importing new projects or converting their existing 1.5.x library. Importing fresh files is incredibly fast. Images are imported in the background, much like they were in 1.5.x, but AP2 displays the JPG previews for the RAW files immediately, making it possible to immediately display and pick image

Many happy returns of the year(not just a day) for Ashtuosh Gowariker for directing Jodhaa Akbar very well. The movie did take a long time in its making but the outcome is worth it. However, quite expectedly, you cannot anticipate the masses to really love the movie. The first half of the movie is rather long(the movie itself is 3 and a half hours in length) and there are some scenes in the first half which seem to be long-drawn. They could well have been trimmed. Technicalities: Full marks to Ashutosh and his team including script writers K.P. Saxena and Haider Ali who have worked hard and meticulously to come up with the mood and the feel of the Moghul era at the screenplay level itself. Music by A.R.Rahman, including the background score is relevant and does not overwhelm the movie. The artwork by Nitin Desai is first-rate. But the main hero of the film is Ashutosh Gowariker who has shot some scenes with brilliance. The song picturizations including the title track Jalaluddi

Watching the strategies of the top players in the digital SLR market is like watching a game of chess with three sides, and the recent spate of product launches has shown some very interesting moves. Canon, the global market leaders, has a comprehensive range covering the market with the entry-level 10-megapixel EOS 400D, the newly-announced 12.2MP EOS 450D and the semi-pro 10.1MP EOS 40D, as well as three full-frame professional cameras, the aging 12.8MP EOS 5D and the two EOS-1D MkIII variants, the 21MP EOS-1Ds and the high speed 10.1MP EOS-1D. Canon's main rival is of course Nikon, which has three consumer-level DSLRs including the 6MP D40, the new 10.1MP D60 and the D80, also 10.1MP. For the semi-pro it offers the 12.3MP D300 , while professionals get the full-frame 12.1MP D3. Sony is a relative newcomer to the DSLR market, but has already moved into third place in the global market, mainly on the strength of its first consumer-level DSLR, the impressive Alpha A100, launched in Jun

Since this blog was created, back in August 2007, there have been written many reviews about various websites, blogs, products and services I've considered them to be useful to you, my readers and visitors. But it've been quite a while since I haven't reviewed a blog of one of my fellow bloggers and friends. This is why today I will present you a blog called The Making Money Experiment, which belongs to Peter Leitsch, better known as Querblogger ( a very friendly and like-minded friend of mine from Germany..the country of Michael Ballack ( for those who are soccer fans :) ).Before going in to more details about his online journal, let's see how our friendship started. For sure, we first met many months ago, in 2007, via LinkReferral ( not only that this is a good traffic source, but you can also make some new friends there too ). Can't remember exactly if Peter reviewed my blog at LR or if I was the first to review his blog, but we soon become friends. And from there on, we've started
The E-3 ($1699) is the flagship camera in Olympus' digital SLR lineup. It is the long-awaited follow-up to the E-1, which was introduced way back in 2001 (back when our reviews were in purple). Olympus didn't just slap a new badge on the E-1 and call it the E-3 -- this camera is new from the ground up. Some of the highlights on the E-3 include: * A 10.1 effective Megapixel LiveMOS sensor * Sensor-shift image stabilization * Live view on a flip-out, rotating 2.5" LCD display * World's fastest autofocus when paired with the 12 - 60 mm SWD lens pictured above (according to Olympus) * Shoots at 5 frames/second * Weather-sealed, very well-built body * Dust reduction system * Large optical viewfinder * Dual memory card slots (xD + CF) * Hot shoe and flash sync port; supports wireless flashes straight out of the boxAnd there's a lot more too, and I'll cover those features in the review of the E-3, which starts right now!by Jeff Kellermore : dcresource
Nikon hit the photographic community with a big one/two punch late last year announcing two new DSLR cameras, the D300 and the new full frame sensored D3. Both cameras deliver 12.3 megapixels with surprisingly similar characteristics. The D300, which I'll be writing about here is the cheaper of the two coming in at a list price of $1,799 compared to the D3's $4999. Before the D300 started shipping people didn't know if the new camera was going to be more evolutionary or revolutionary in its features. It turns out to be a bit of both. Nikon was almost coy about letting out information on the camera and samples of the camera's output were as scarce as Trekkers at a Hells Angels get together. I had to wait a long time to get a sample camera from Nikon but last week it was delivered along with Nikon's also hard-to-get 18~200 VR zoom lens and a SB-800 strobe unit.Modern digital cameras are more computer than what most of us old-timers consider a camera. They capture the analog signal (light
I just finished reading The Aura of Love by Kathy J Marsh.
First off, let me start by saying that I had never heard of this author prior to reading this book. In fact, I had won an autographed copy of the book through a contest I had entered.
I am definitely glad that I [...]
Valentines day was first created for lovers. Now it is a day when we generally express our love to family and friends. Of course, the big merchants still want you to believe that your lover will only be happy with diamonds or expensive flowers, but that is not true. Mind you, something from Old Navy is always a bonus. One site that offers help is Coupon Chief which offers online coupons to help people find ideas and save money. Frankly, I always hit the Dell page at any of the 'web malls.' I shop for me here. The next site I hit is BestBuys, where I shop for everyone else. In fact, I was shopping for built in stove tops last night with my husband - online. We found the stove we want for $400 less than the local store's price....Life Just Keep Getting Better And Better
Back in 1999 I was living my dream with my friends. We were ski bums spending the whole ski season in Chamonix in France. Being a ski bum was absolutely one of the highlights in my life, not just because of skiing but also because of great friendships we created and the great moments we [...]
This month's edition of Wine Blogging Wednesday comes to us courtesy of Spitton.biz, who have tasked the collective talents of the budding wine blogging community by asking us to review an Italian Red, using just seven words.Tricky, to say the least (get it?); especially for those of us whose prose, how shall I put this... does not value highly the elegance of the concise. But let's not sell ourselves short (get it??), or wax too philosophically about the relative merits of our brief (get it?!?) and minute (get it?!??) contribution to the great big blogosphere.Ok, ok... I'll stop!Anyway, for this excellent exercise in enological economy, Dude chose an old stand-by wine: Castello Banfi's Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C. (2003, Tuscany). Before Dude delves deep into the diminutive depiction of this dapper delicacy, let us first examine some way-cool background information so you can get up close and personal with what Rosso di Montalcino is all about....Most wine lovers have at least heard abo
Marker bindings don’t have the best reputation among free-riders and powderhounds around the world. Especially their so called biometric toe design has had a bad habit of pre-releasing in the wrong situations. My own experince from the current Markers are OK, especially because I’ve only used them on basic carving (e.g. all the skis on [...]
PS3 Fanboy review: Go! Sports SkydivingFiled under: Reviews, e-Distribution Games By standardizing the titles for these PSN releases, it's clear that Sony intends to create a brand for the Go! Sports series. But why? By now, any educated gamer will know that the Go! Sports line means one thing -- and that isn't "quality." Go! Sports Ski was an awful game that featured unplayable controls, sloppy graphics, and an abysmal amount of content. No wonder it only cost $2. Go! Sports Skydiving is priced higher than its predecessor, at $5. But is it worth it?Well, depends on what scale you're using. Compared to Go! Sports Ski, this game is an incredible improvement. Of course, that doesn't say much.Gallery: Go! Sports SkydivingContinue reading PS3 Fanboy review: Go! If a smart phone could make a dumb guy smart, the Moto Q9h would be on the hit-list of many men! This quad-band pro, 3G phone with QWERTY keypad surely clinches the look good factor, but then isn’t that the easy part? What we need to know is if its TIOMAP 2420 processor can match [...]
BARCELONA (Reuters) - Motorola Inc's strategic review is focused on creating value for its money-losing mobile phone division, with the aim of bringing about a "product-led" recovery, a company strategist said on Monday. "We're going to be expeditious about our review," Motorola's senior vice president for corporate development and strategy, Don McLellan, told Reuters in an interview on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. "The market had dramatically undervalued mobile devices. That was a concern to us," he said, adding, "We know it can regain market leadership." McLellan declined to comment on a report in The Wall Street Journal that Motorola and Nortel Networks Corp are in talks to combine their wireless infrastructure units, which make network equipment for wireless phone carriers.
Magnetic fields associated with UFOs have produced a wide variety of effects strongly suggesting a static orslowly changing field. They have induced permanent magnetism in ferrous objects such as signs and flagpoles. Many wristwatches have been stopped during a UFO sighting then later found by a jeweler to be magnetized. Suchresidual magnetism could have been produced only by static fields or ones changing intensity very slowly; rapidlypulsing fields, on the other hand, would erase magnetism. That technique is used to erase magnetic tapes and todegauss ships. The author has duplicated most types of radio interference from UFOs with static, magnetic15fields. The most sensitive components of transistor radios are coils in tuned radio-frequency and intermediate-frequency circuits. The magnetic field modifies the physical property of their ferrite cores. The circuits are therebydetuned from the selected station. Reception begins to fade at about 350 gauss and is entirely blocked at
OK. So I opted to see the new Matthew Mcconaughey movie, Fool’s Gold, with a friend of mine. I decided to see it because, well, I don’t know. The minute I told my other friends I saw it, they pointed and laughed at me. But I don’t care. I’m known to like the cheesier side [...]
After discovering the world of podcasting, I decided to attend The New Media and Podcasting Expo. Prior to the event I had been thinking about some podcasting ideas and tinkered around a bit with some podcasting tools, i.e., audacity. I had also done some research on podcasting equipment.
A new review of mine from BlogCritics:You can't live in the United States of America and not notice the shift in politics towards religion. Almost daily we see the lines between Church and State become blurrier and blurrier. Damon Linker calls this movement theoconservatism and outlines the rise and development of this uniquely American point of view in his book The Theocons-Secular America Under Siege.Linker has a unique perspective as the former editor of First Things, the journal of the theocons. He believes that Americans should be scared enough by this small conservative movement to keep an eye and a check on how far religion is allowed to go in consulting with federal government. The argument is compelling. We are dealing with an administration that brought in faith based initiatives, faith based counseling, and that involved itself in the Terry Schiavo right-to-die case. It is also a proponent of "intelligent design", has passed (or attempted) pro-life legislation, is against

This is about the movie “Santa’s Slay,” with former wrestling superstar Bill Goldberg playing a real, yet pissed off Santa Claus. Hello Friends! Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting my blog, Stock Picks Bob's Advice! As always, please remember that I am an amateur investor, so please remember to consult with your professional investment advisers prior to making any investment decisions based on information on this website.I would like to apologize for missing the review last weekend. Family business took me out of town, and a review wasn't in the cards. So we are another week behind on these things. Instead of looking back one year, we shall soon need to talk about looking back two years instead! Anyhow, these reviews are an important part of my blogging on this website. It really isn't enough just to pick a stock without reviewing what happened at some future date with that stock pick. Some of them do well; others decline in value. It is my goal to continue to refine my 'picking' ability as well as my understanding about inve
(CNET) -- When you build the follow-up to a hot camera, how do you turn up the heat? When Nikon shipped the D200 a couple of years ago, its combination of speed and photo quality blew away the limited competition, and provided a powerful, relatively inexpensive alternative to Nikon's then top-of-the-line D2X.The D300 faces a far more crowded field. Not only does it take on its venerable and now lower-priced predecessor, but also a cluster of far-from-shabby dSLRs just at or below its price: the Canon EOS 40D, the Sony Alpha DSLR-A700, the Olympus E-3, and the Pentax K20D.Nikon's offering a body-only box of the D300 as well as two kits: one with a DX 18mm-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF lens (27mm-202.5mm equivalent with the camera's 1.5x crop factor) and one with a DX 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens (27mm-300mm equivalent). I tested the latter kit, and also used the camera with two non-DX lenses: a preproduction version of the 14-24mm 2.8G ED and the 24-70mm f/2.8G ED IF.For the most part, Nikon
A new marketing course to hit the internet by Nick Marks that advertises earnings of $1000 a day and $30,000 a month respectively. This turnkey system generating multiple streams of income is relatively new and so it is my pleasure to review it for you. After purchasing you are given a login page where you are introduced to the system which is in website format. Everything is easy to access and well organized. After Nick gives you a little pep talk about positive thinking and goal setting, you will be introduced to his first recommendation: join Coastal Vacations. While not a part of his main Forex system this is a recommendation I could've done without. In the pay per click section you are given a large list of keywords that Nick found convert really well with his system. Some of the keywords in the list have bid prices already attached to them so you can get front page exposure. The course also has $50 in free adwords credit that unfortunately only works with new accounts so I was out of

And a cookbook review from BlogCritics:Simon Hopkinson is a venerable English chef and newspaper columnist who enjoys pushing for simple, home-y food. This cookbook, originally published in London in 1994, is a small but useful collection of Hopkinson's favorite recipes, along with personal stories and asides to accompany each one.My husband is a retired chef and his most basic meals are my favorites. Not that I don't love the rolled and stuffed game hens or the complex pats, but nothing compares to his beef lentil soup and his roast chicken with garlic buttermilk mashed potatoes. In Roast Chicken and Other Stories we find a celebration of simple home cooking. There's plenty of butter, cream, and other "no-no's" to be found, but very little processed pre-cooked and microwaved food. This book celebrates fresh food, be it potatoes, chicken, or calves brains. It is simply organized around Hopkinson's favorite ingredients, and while many of them are not appetizing to an American tast
8 February 2008 - Theres no denying that the Nikon D3 is a lot of camera, sporting a host of advanced features befitting a camera pitched at the top level of professional shooting - it even comes equipped with Live View. And before you ask, yes, it can auto-focus using all of the 51-AF zones available in Live View too.The new CMOS sensor provides a seemingly modest 12.1-megapixel resolution looking a little out of sorts particularly when compared to, say, Canons 21-megapixel EOS 1Ds Mk III, with which the D3 will undoubtedly compete, although, it must be remembered the Canon is almost double the price! On the upside it means the pixel pitch will be better than the Canon (thats bigger pixels to you and me) and means an excellent signal to noise ratio, so noise is all but non-existent.Image processing is controlled by Nikons EXPEED image engine and as with the recently tested D300, it works very well indeed, allowing the cameras amazing ISO range of 100 to 25,600 to becom
And another of my BlogCritics book reviews...I grew up in a New York Eastern European Jewish household where Yiddish was spoken interchangeably with English. We never ate chicken gizzards, and I would pale at the thought of eating stomach, but I loved the "pupick". When something was bad a simple "Oy!" would do, but if you heard "Oy vay is mir" you knew things were really bad. Instead of glowing with joy we would "kvell". And people were never crazy, just "mishugeneh".So much Yiddish has entered into typical American English vocabulary that it makes sense that our dogs, even strays from a "goy" background, would still understand the words. I mean, what dog likes to "shlep" her owners around? And who wants only kibble when there is a "mishmash" of food in the trash? Why be on a diet when we can "fress"? And how can a dog not start barking or "plotzing" when lots of people come over the house? This is a short picture book written from the viewpoint of dogs. So we have fat fireplug
Another BlogCritics Book Review:I was having sushi with a good friend and we were discussing pets and the difference between dogs and cats. Being a cat lover from the time I can remember I was not too interested in hearing about dogs, who I perceived as basically big dirty dumb animals. My friend had a different take; she said, "cats are nature's serial killers, but dogs were put here to teach us how to love."When my husband and I moved to the Caribbean I brought three cats over with me. One night a local stray dog, a "potcake" as we say, came to visit. "Don't feed it!", I yelled, "or it will keep coming back!" Well, he did feed her and she did come back and now we have no cats but are the proud owner of a 65 pound potcake named Smiley (the best dog in the world). Hmmm....She came housebroken and relatively social, but liked to run off, was overprotective, and did not play well with other dogs. Luckily I found a great dog trainer and groomer, and Smiley entered doggie day care with
A review I wrote for BlogCritics. First I must say that I was really excited to review Learning PHP & MySQL: Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Database-Driven Web Sites. My HTML skills have grown greatly over time and I am able to maintain a few HTML driven websites with a minimum of hassle and effort. I have limited time and little desire to immerse myself in any web development, but have been enamored by PHP and the database driven MySQL and the website functionality they promise. So when I saw the book described by the publisher as "perfect for newcomers to programming as well as hobbyists who are intimidated by harder-to-follow books," and "If you ... know your way around HTML, Learning PHP & MySQL is the book you've been looking for," I thought this could be the perfect opportunity to learn something useful and write a review at the same time. But after reading the book, downloading the software, and trying to follow what was presented, I know no more about how to use PHP & MySQL

It is a rare occasion that I watch a movie without Googling the title and reading up on what critics have to say about it. Cloverfield is one such movie. I have seen the poster of the beheaded Statue of Liberty a couple of times as we pass by the mall, and wondered how it was related to the title. I haven't seen the trailer either. But yesterday, we got a chance to go home earlier than usual

There are many new alternatives to surgery and medicine available to our generation. It is funny to remember my parents gawfting at alternative and holistic medicines. They believed that Doctors knew everything, and that attitude cost many people in their generation their very lives. The New Hope treatment strategy is an Alternative Cancer Center and is one of the most comprehensive cancer treatments ever built. With more than 50 years experience treating cancer, not necessarily following the doctor's typical treatments, they created the New Hope Treatment Method. The Alternative Cancer Treatment Center customizes programs to meet each patient’s needs. They incorporate the best scientifically-proven cancer treatments with a method that is designed to complement standard medicine. Their non-toxic modalities lets the body heal itself by stimulating its natural regulatory, repair, and defense mechanisms.Life Just Keep Getting Better And Better
Tucked away in a strip mall across from the San Ramon Safeway
shopping center, Caf Esin is not particularly impressive from
the outside, seeming very much like a run of the mill eating
place, typical of the San Ramon Valley. As soon as you walk
through the door though, you are in for a big surprise.
First of all, the small front entrance conceals a spacious
interior with multiple eating areas, all extremely tastefully
decorated in pleasing earth tones and with attractive art work
adorning the walls.
Whenever you go, it will most likely have many of the tables
occupied, for this is a restaurant that is well known to San
Ramon residents and one that has one countless awards.
Reservations here really are a must!
Chef-owner run restaurants often impress more than others and
this is no exception. The brainchild of husband and wife team
Curtis and Esin deCarion, Caf Esin consistently delivers the
highest quality food at reasonable prices in one of th
