  • rough draft story part 1
It was two in the morning when I stumbled home from the bar around the corner. My apartment building was once a mom and pop motel. Now it was a rundown tenement with a fresh coat of badly applied paint. As usual the light above the entrance flickered on and off. I got my keys out of my pocket only to find that someone had already jimmied opened the door. As I climbed up the stairs to my floor the smell of ethnic cooking and wet dryer lint hit me. My hand reached for the door and realized the handle was unlocked. Without any thought my hand reaches into my coat and comes back out with my luger. I swing the door open with my gun aimed high and found two gangster looking mother fuckers, their guns pointing right back at me. I slowly put mine down on the kitchen counter and lit up a cigarette. “What can I do for you boys?” The one on the right looked like a reject from a Dick Tracy strip, his face rat like and slanted, his hands thin and wiry. The other was short and fat with a red

by Klondike, 2007 KankaNation Laetare RecipientEditor's Note: Scroll down for Dave and my annual email exchange about the Baseball Hall of Fame inductions.#12What They Are Yelling: "Boo!"Rough Translation: You just participated in something very bad. Intentions do not matter. Bad luck does not matter. Not being a savant does not matter. What matters is that you are entirely responsible for bad things happening, and that you must mend your ways immediately. From this moment forward, remember what you have just done, and take all necessary steps to ensure that it never happens again.#11What They Are Yelling: "Whoo!"Rough Translation: You just did something very good. The spectators find this acceptable, and their collective expectations concerning your future endeavors have been raised. Remember what you just did, because you are now expected to repeat it unfailingly for the rest of your career.#10What They Are Yelling: "Defense!"Rough Translation: Your opposition is maneuvering in a way
  • DTC move to cut rough diamond supplies to India
MUMBAI (Reuters) - India expects to see rough diamond supplies fall by up to a fourth after the Diamond Trading Co (DTC), the distribution arm of De Beers, cuts down on Indian clients, an industry body said on Wednesday. DTC has dropped eight Indian firms and three Indian-owned firms in Belgium from the new list of clients, or sightholders, for roughs supply, which is scheduled to be announced in March, the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) said on Wednesday. However, three new names from India figure in the latest list, the trade body said in a statement. "Mega expansion and investments were undertaken by companies towards integrating manufacturing facilities, and now they would be deprived of assured rough supply, which will greatly affect their set-up," the chairman of the GJEPC, Sanjay Kothari, said. "This move will consolidate the business in few hands....the exclusion has caused discomfort even amongst the existing sightholders," he
  • Will Lickliter lose his PGA Tour card in 2008? Also, regroup, regrip, reevaluate and getting from the rough to the green
Click here to listen.Frank Lickliter may be making Q-School look easy this week, but, taking a look at his 2007 stats, you would never think that this same man was cut from ten PGA Tour events and DQ'd twice! Even if he becomes the medalist this year, how well do you think he's going to perform in 2008? On the flip side, many of the guys struggling out there this week may work even harder to keep their card once this pressure-cooker is finished. Breathing easy will accompany that final 18th hole putt for some and, for others, many a tear will be shed in the privacy of their RV's and/or motel rooms. After reading an article by funnyman/caddie Michael Collins I better understood how golf may be a game to some but, at the end of a week of Q-School, it is more of a relief than a sense of joy and accomplishment. The golf course and range are eerily silent during those final six rounds. Collins claims that you can almost tell which golfers will be around for the final day by their demeanor and

  • Will Daly's six-pack and Mickelson's roll of the dice challenge Woods for FedEx cup, RedEye i330 laser putter update, deep rough maneuvers and more!
Click here to listen.Even though Phil Mickelson resumed a practice regimen for the PGA Championship, it still wasn't enough to beat (or even compete against) Tiger Woods, who won his thirteenth career major after a sweltering weekend at Southern Hills.Did practice make a difference for Mickelson or should he have taken the "John Daly approach", going in cold after a diet of casino play and cold beer? Both Mickelson and Daly finished with a +6 after four rounds of play and both appeared to be in good spirits afterwards with Phil claiming, "I don't want to be hard on myself because, for a couple, I wasn't able to make the swings and hit the shots I needed to try to hit," feeling that his Players Championship victory is "what salvaged the year for me."John Daly, ever optimistic commented, "It was a good week, just take small steps."Mickelson looked confused and tired. Should he have just said, "the heck with it" and played agressively this weekend? Mickelson would have probably had more f
  • Reflection on A Rough Weekend
Feeling lonely lately.Last week I was feeling pretty lonely, but this weekend, I really hit a loneliness low.I felt pinned to my bed. I found myself taking a lot of naps; not something I usually do. My whole body was just exhausted. Then, at night, I couldn't go to sleep as my anxiety just kept bubbling up and I was frustrated by feelings that I hadn't accomplished anything. I was exhausted, but I just couldn't get myself to close my eyes. I found myself watching infomercials with disproportionate intrigue. I think I watched the one for Mineral Make-up twice. Has anyone tried this stuff? After seeing Alyssa Milano's testimonial with her glowing complexion, I almost gave in to placing my order. When I found myself thinking about ordering the stuff, I knew it was time to give sleep a chance.Friday afternoon was fun though. My best friend and I were out and about running errands and getting a manicures and pedicures. I talked to her about everything; the loneliness and all, and she to
