I was talking earlier today about how good training can really set you up for a great career in your chosen industry. The training you receive can be the difference between landing your dream job or missing out on the opportunity all together. In the modern world training really is necessary no matter what job you plan on doing.Training can also have other benefits. During my training I quickly learned that the job I was planning on doing wasn't for me and I was able to switch to a more appropriate training course before I had completely gone down the wrong path. Doing Your Presentation Before You Present! What the heck am I on about? How can you do a presentation without having to present? Before I begin and explain what it is I mean I want you to think about the advantages of being able to sell your products or services in an environment that isn’t within traditional sales pitch / meeting. The problem we all have is that as soon as a client or customer agrees to an appointment to see a salesperson he will naturally have feelings and thoughts about all the other (bad) salespeople he has seen, got annoyed with and got out the door without a sell. That is why you will be learning very shortly that to talk to your customer away and external from the main meeting is a massive advantage for you because by doing so brings the customers’ guard down and his resistance to what you are just about to say is hugely reduced to almost zero. So, before we get down to me revealing the technique, I want you to imagine the effect of saying“Now, let’s just ge

Smash Bros. Sales Top 1 MillionScore one for the hardcore gamers. Sales of Super Smash Bros. Brawl have reached 1.08 million units in Japan in the 11 days since the game's launch, reports Reuters. That officially makes Brawl the fastest-selling Wii game in Japan. The data is based on Enterbrain's numbers, not the Media Create sales that we report on here at Game|Life. NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India's domestic car sales growth slowed sharply in January from a year ago, clocking up annual expansion of 9 percent, and analysts said only new models and cheaper loans were likely to fuel a pick up in demand. India sold 113,899 cars in January, up from 104,501 in the same month a year ago, when sales had jumped 24 percent, data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) showed on Friday. "The last few months have seen muted sales and the trend may continue unless new vehicles are introduced and finance issues are tackled," Dilip Chenoy, SIAM's director general, said. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) raised interest rates five times in 10 months from June 2006, bumping up those on vehicle loans, and tighter monetary policy has trimmed consumer demand in Asia's third-largest economy. Top carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, which is 54.2 percent owned by Japan's Suzuki Motor Ltd, posted a marginal fall in car sales to 54,366 uni
MUMBAI (Reuters) - Indian gold markets continued to see low-key buying on Thursday with weddings necessitating purchases even as gold hovered near its all-time high, dealers and traders said. "Every time gold falls under $900 an ounce, there is some demand," said Harshad Ajmera, proprietor of JJ Gold House in Kolkata. Retailers in his region were seeing good sales mostly of jewellery made out of recycled gold, while imported gold sold by traders moved sluggishly, Ajmera said. "Demand for imported gold is emerging slowly," said Satish Bansal of M.D. Overseas Ltd, a large New-Delhi based importer. Bansal said gold sales could strengthen if prices fell around $850. Overseas gold strengthened its recovery from the previous day's dips ahead of interest rate decisions by the Bank of England and European Central Bank but was over 3 percent down from its record $936.50 reached on Feb.1. Concerns over economic growth in the U.S. and credit market fears contin

Matchbook Romance's Hit Song "Monsters" Gets Boost From Hot New Game
Since Activision's release of the cultural phenomenon Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, which features 2006's hit song "Monsters," sales of Matchbook Romance's digital single have skyrocketed. Featured on the group's 2006 album, Voices, "Monsters" is currently averaging sales of over 5,500 digital copies per week since the game's release. Sales of the digital single have also driven album sales, which saw a significant increase since the games introduction.
"With limited opportunities for young bands to make a real connection with new fans, games like Guitar Hero III are having a huge impact on sales," explains Epitaph's Vice President of Sales Jon Strickland. "Matchbook Romance's sales were up over 1000% over the holiday period due to their appearance as one of the few newer bands featured in the game."
Also featured in Madden NFL 07 and Arena Football: Road to Glory, "Monsters" inclusion on Guitar Hero III mar
Jack Ewing, BusinessWeek "Nokia extended its already formidable dominance of the global handset business on Jan. 24, announcing it had achieved 40% market share in the fourth quarter of 2007. But perhaps the biggest surprise was that the Finnish company achieved this long-promised and psychologically important milestone while also becoming more profitable." "Thanks to soaring sales in emerging markets, as well as growth in high-end phones, Nokia boosted profit in the fourth quarter of 2007 by 44%, to $2.68 billion, on sales of $23 billion. At the same time, average selling prices grew, and the operating margin on mobile phones rose to 25%, vs. 17.8% a year earlier."Ewing notes that, the strong performance pushed Nokia's shares up 12.5% to $36.48. Although gloom 'n doom seems to be dominating many water-cooler conversations, the mobile-phone industry seems unfazed because consumers continue regarding phones"as necessities and scrimp elsewhere if they have to buy new handsets."That c

Bahamians encouraged to join fight to keep Fla. tax exemption:
By INDERIA SAUNDERS,Guardian Staff Reporter -
Nassau, Bahamas:
A hike in prices on goods imported from the Sunshine State may be looming as Florida legislators debate repealing an exemption on the six-percent sales tax directed at foreign importers — a concession that has made Florida the top supplier to Bahamian businesses.
The legislative move may come as early as this year and in the midst of an economic downturn in the state's economy, said Adam Hasner, the Majority Leader in the Florida House of Representatives
He was in Nassau yesterday trying to enlist the help of local businesses in the fight against the Democrat-led initiative.
He fears that if the concession is removed and enough regional importers decide to take their business elsewhere, his state's economy will fall further into what increasingly appears to be recession.
At a Bahamas Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Hasner argued that possible develop
By Aiko Hayashi TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp, a maker of compact cars, said on Thursday it expects its global car sales to rise 7 percent this year as it taps demand for fuel-efficient vehicles in emerging markets. The company also said it expects motorcycle sales to increase 11 percent to 3.6 million bikes in 2008. Chief Executive Officer Osamu Suzuki told a news conference he expects robust growth in Asian markets such as India and China to continue to benefit the company, but a slowing in the global economy stemming from the U.S. subprime problems and high oil prices pose concerns. "I don't expect demand for cars will expand this year, while we have worries about the United States, currency moves, a decline in overall consumption and high oil prices," he said. Suzuki has been growing rapidly as its line-up of comparatively low-cost, fuel-efficient cars drives sales in India, Eastern Europe and other emerging markets. Suzuki's pole position in
By Ransdell Pierson NEW YORK (Reuters) - Pfizer Inc on Wednesday reported a higher-than-expected fourth-quarter profit, helped by lower taxes, a weak dollar and growing demand for its drugs for nerve pain, kidney cancer and smoking cessation. Earnings for the world's largest drug maker fell to $2.88 billion, or 42 cents per share, from $9.45 billion, or $1.32 per share, a year earlier, when Pfizer reported a big gain from the sale of its consumer health business to Johnson & Johnson. Excluding special items, earnings were 52 cents per share. Analysts on average had forecast 47 cents, according to Reuters Estimates. New York-based Pfizer raised the lower end of its 2008 profit forecast, which excludes special items, to $2.35 per share from $2.31 while keeping the top end at $2.45. Reuters Estimates' average earnings outlook was $2.35. Pfizer in the past year has cut more than 10,000 jobs and is paring other costs to keep earnings growing amid generic competition for several
By Jui Chakravorty Das DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp on Wednesday reported worldwide sales of 9.37 million vehicles in 2007, coming in just ahead of Japanese rival Toyota Motor Corp in a closely watched race for the top spot in global sales. GM, which was expected to lose its title of the world's largest automaker for the first time in 76 years, sold 9,369,524 vehicles in 2007. Toyota sold about 9,366,000 units, a source told Reuters on Wednesday. The Japanese automaker earlier this month publicly announced global sales of 9.37 million for 2007, saying it would disclose more precise figures in late January. GM said its total global sales rose 3 percent from a year earlier, driven by strong growth in regions outside North America. Still, the two automakers are neck-and-neck, with only about 3,500 vehicles separating them at a time when Toyota has been growing in the United States -- the world's single largest market for vehicle sales -- while GM's domestic market s
DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp on Wednesday reported global sales of 9.37 million vehicles in 2007, sharing the mantle of the world's largest automaker with Japanese rival Toyota Motor Corp for the first time in 76 years. GM said its total global sales rose 3 percent from a year earlier, driven by strong growth in regions outside North America. The automaker said it sold 9,369,524 vehicles in 2007, while Toyota said last week it sold 9.37 million vehicles, and noted Wednesday more precise figures should be available by the end of the month. The tie comes at a time when Toyota has been growing in the United States -- the world's single largest market for vehicle sales -- while GM's domestic sales have been slipping. But the U.S. automaker has been increasing market share outside the United States, where sales accounted for 59 percent of the total tally. Since 1998, GM's global sales have grown at an average annual rate of about 1.5 percent, while Toyota's growth rate ha
MUMBAI (Reuters) - Chemicals and tyre cord maker SRF Ltd on Wednesday said net profit halved in the quarter to December, hit by a stronger rupee and lower carbon credit sales in the quarter. The company, which is spending 7 billion rupees to expand capacity and set up a wind power plant, said new plants, a stronger market and tighter costs will help it increase profits. SRF reported a net profit of 342.8 million rupees on a nine percent fall in sales to 4.01 billion rupees in October- December. "The decline in profitability is because last year's numbers included effect of higher sales of accumulated carbon credits and the appreciation of the Indian rupee," the company said in a statement. A company spokesman declined to share the details on carbon credit sales. However, it is part of the firm's chemicals business, which saw sales falling by 27 percent to 1.3 billion rupees in the quarter. Firms in developed nations buy carbon credits to meet their emission reduction ob
How important is fast computer response to a sales team? Normally a sales team is the most closely monitored group of personnel in an organization, simply because sales are the prime influence on the bottom line. The second most important tool to a sales rep--second to the ability to sell the product--is support. A vital part of that support is, of course, the rep's computer and its capacity to quickly respond. While a prospect is sitting in front of the rep, or while a prospect is waiting on the phone, the rep must access a computer for customer info, product pricing, and countless other items. As any salesperson knows, a prospect's interest can be fragile. Anything which makes the prospect wait scrapes away that interest, and if scraped enough, the prospect is lost. Slow computer response also means sales reps are only able to handle limited prospects per hour, per day, or per week. The primary barrier to fast computer response is file fragmentation. Fragmentation occurs as files are c

The bird flu scare has hit poultry sales here. Traders claimed that the scare of bird flu has resulted in a drop in sales of chicken. "I buy chicken from here and supply them to the hotels in the city. Due to this bird flu scare, my business is suffering losses. The rates have also come down drastically these days," said Mohammad Arshad, a supplier of chickens. Though many claimed that the bird flu scare is the obvious reason behind the drop in the sales, few feel that it is the ignorance of people. Mohammad Irfan Quereshi, a dealer said that it is the economics of demand and supply playing its game. He said that farmers sold out their chicken at lower prices fearing that their chicken will not fetch them a good price if a nation-wide epidemic is declared. "The main reason for the fall in the prices is the fact that the scared farmers sold their chickens before a bird flu epidemic could be declared. The farmers got scared with the media showing this bird flu all over. I

The High Street giant saw a fall of more than 2% compared with the same three months in 2006. Even though Sir Stuart presented an up-beat and positive response to the situation, shares in the company initially fell by 19% - wiping the value of the company by almost a fifth. What a ridiculous response from the City. If they had delved into the figures a bit more, they would have found that M&S online sales had increased by a whopping 78% compared with Christmas a year ago. In other words, the 2% fall would have been much, much worse, if M&S had not done so well online. Shopping on the Internet is now clearly an everyday oc

From Christmas Day until the end of March, this is the time to clean up on the winter steals.Retailers need to get rid of the leftover surplus of goods that didn't sell during the holiday season. Why? To get rid of the overstock and make room for the Spring/Summer items (which they usually display in February). Here are some things to remember in all of the coming sales madness: Everyone will have a sale. It's your right to comparison shop.Don't waste money. Make sure it will fit and you'll really wear it. My standard is to think of at least three outfits you could wear the tempting item with. If you can't, you run the risk of wasting money on a closet liner. The really great savings start around mid-January. Stores discount more when product isn't selling. However, there's a catch; the choice of sizes and popular items/colors will go first and most likely won't make it to this stage. If you really, really love so
