  • (Game) Time is not on San Diego State's Side
The Mountain West Conference, which includes San Diego State, just couldn’t wait to get away from the crummy starting times its athletic events were receiving on networks such as ESPN.So the conference went ahead and joined partnership with CSTV and even has its own television station, so to speak, called the mtn.So now, those inconvenient late morning and late evening starting times are gone … or are they?Have you noticed that the San Diego State men’s basketball team hosts the Air Force Academy at 8 pm Wednesday to accommodate the mtn. TV broadcast? So, what ever happened to those much better weeknight starting times of 7 pm when the Aztecs were being televised by Channel 4 San Diego?Well, not only has this wonderful deal with the mtn. made for worse starting times; it has also taken away a large majority of local viewers. If you are lucky (or unlucky) enough to even be able to watch the games on the mtn., consider yourself in a sizeable minority. The mtn. was supposed to solve th
  • San Diego Natural History Museum

Besides the San Diego Zoo, you can also find this museum which is just across the way from the Ruben H Fleet Science Center. The museum is three stories and is full of fossils and animal bones. The normal admission is as follows: Adult $9.00 Senior (62+) $7.00 Active military, youth (13–17), student (with ID) $6.00 Child (3–12) $4.00 Child 2
  • Reuben H Fleet Science Center - San Diego
This past weekend we headed south to San Diego to spend a day at the Fleet Science Center. The museum is part of Balboa Park. I love science centers, and had read that the Fleet Science Center is one of the best. The museum is very hands on, and offers your kids a fun filled day. The Fleet is home to seven exhibit galleries and is home to the world's first, and San Diego's only IMAX Dome Theater. The seven exhibit galleries provide an interactive and self guided learning experience for kids of all ages. SoWatt is a fantastic exhibit where you will learn about ways that we produce energy and learn also about conservation. The Aging of all Ages exhibit, informs the whole teaches the whole family about wellness and healthy lifestyles. My kids favorite exhibit, Kid City, is geared for infants to 6 year olds and is a must if you have young children. It's a very hands on exhibit and it features a grocery store, story area and much more. The gallery of Illusions and Perceptions explores ho

  • FILM SCHOOL: Sights & Sounds in San Diego
FM94/9 has teamed up with the San Diego Museum of Art to stage an on-going evening of art, music and culture. Or least that’s how they’re billing it. It does sound pretty cool though. SDMA’s special exhibition for the night is titled Animated Painting and will feature 25 cinematic works by 14 international contemporary artist who adapt traditional painting and drawing methods to the concepts and technologies of animation. Better yet Film School make up the music portion of Sights & Sounds. They’ll be performing in SDMA’s auditorium starting at 9pm. Two cash bars and FM94/9 spinning tunes in the museum’s rotunda confirm that it’s a party. So everyone in San Diego come on down for Sights & Sounds on Thursday, December 13th.

  • San Diego Zoo
Pandas, Pandas, Pandas!! This is all I've heard from my daughter Lauren for the past couple of weeks. A while back she was watching the Wonder Pets which featured a Panda rescue and this is when it all began. We're very lucky that we happen to live only about an hour and a half from one of the greatest zoos in America, if not the world. So we packed a diaper bag yesterday and headed south to the San Diego Zoo. The zoo is one of three(National and Atlanta) in the states that have pandas on display. Lauren was beside herself with excitement. We arrived after a short drive and snagged a great parking spot. There is one parking lot adjacent to the park and one across the street from the park. Parking was plentiful in the afternoon and free. We loaded the kids in the double stroller and started our adventure. We grabbed a map and started our trek to the panda research station but Lauren had other plans. On our way there we stopped by the monkey/gorilla exhibit and she was mesmerized. She d

The art of investing, in almost anything, can be a truly risky process. There is as much money lost as made with poor portfolio management, poor planning and inadequate research. However, there's no such thing as a risk-free investment, so don't mind whatever the hype and publicity keeps on saying.Usually, investment schemes that guarantee quick returns and huge profits offer the greater risk, as claims of quick and easy returns are generally the ones that are most likely to be just broken promises. With careful planning and coherent market research, there are some good, sound investment options present. Investing in the Sarasota property markets is one good option.Sarasota Is A Well-Known Property HotspotMost developers and investment analysts see Sarasota as a property hot spot, where real estate is in high demand. The city's weather is generally considered more attractive than almost anywhere else in the country, particularly for those with plenty of leisure time to spare. Generally

  • San Diego sports: Abolish them all?
Think back to the rosy situation for San Diego sports last Friday night. All the Padres had to do was beat the downtrodden Milwaukee Brewers one time to make the playoffs. The Chargers were favored by more points than any NFL team Sunday, so they would certainly whip the Kansas City Chiefs.OK, so now we’ve witnessed among the 72 worst hours in San Diego sports history. The Padres couldn’t beat the Brewers … or hold a two-run lead with Trevor Hoffman on the mound against the Colorado Rockies. The Chargers lost to the Chiefs … further proving it was Marty Schottenheimer’s coaching – not A.J. Smith’s players – who were responsible for last year’s 14-2 season. With the Padres, you wouldn’t normally want anyone other than Jake Peavy or Hoffman on the mound. But they surrendered all of Colorado’s runs in Monday night’s season-ending, 9-8 loss in 13 innings.Sadly, both now have storylines of being great pitchers the first 162 days of the season; but not much to brag about t

  • Bonds will break record in San Diego
Bad news for Padres fans.Barry Bonds is going to break Hank Aaron’s all-time home run record in San Diego this weekend.Doesn’t it figure he will do it against the Padres? After all, Bonds has 86 career home runs against San Diego. He does not have more than 65 against any other team.Bonds also hit No. 700 off Jake Peavy of the Padres. And speaking of the Padres, aces Chris Young and Peavy will not pitch this weekend against San Francisco.Bonds probably won’t hit record-breaker No. 756 Friday night against Greg Maddux. But don’t be surprised if it comes Saturday against Tim Stauffer or Sunday off Justin Germano.Let’s hope we’re wrong. Just the thought of Bonds breaking the record in San Diego makes me ill.
  • Red Sox Nation invades San Diego
Becky Beckhard's Guest BlogRed Sox – Padres SeriesPadres fans may be anticipating this weekend’s series against the Boston Red Sox with some trepidation. After all, the Red Sox have baseball’s best record and like most American League teams, have been dominating their NL opponents. Last year the Red Sox tuned up their friends in the Senior Circuit by a 16-2 advantage, and this year they are 10-5 in interleague competition coming into San Diego. But Boston’s dirty little secret is that the lineup has major holes and can be shut down by good starting pitching like San Diego’s – especially pitchers who throw strikes and stay out of deep counts. Two high-priced free agents, J.D. Drew and Julio Lugo, have been absolutely atrocious this year, and centerfielder Coco Crisp (best name in the majors) is no Johnny Damon. Third baseman Mike Lowell has a bad hand and has stopped hitting, and backstop Jason Varitek can no longer catch up to the high heat. Jake Peavy will punch him out at

  • USD: Fits right in with San Diego
Can you believe the University of San Diego’s baseball team was swept in the NCAA Regionals over the weekend?I sure can. Why?It’s simple. USD is located in San Diego. This is the same town called home by the Padres, who have lost in the first round of the National League playoffs each of the past two seasons. The Chargers have lost their first postseason game while making the NFL playoffs two of the past three seasons. Then there is San Diego State, which has never won an NCAA Tournament basketball playoff game or a Division I football bowl game!USD joined the crowd by becoming only the fifth team to lose its first two games as the No. 1 regional seed in the past nine years. If the Toreros ever want to do anything in the postseason, they’ll have to do the impossible for a school called USD: Move from San Diego!
