Granted, there is a lot to be fixed. But, this is one of the ways to make an immediate impact. I guess a lot of Conservative Republicans need to sit down and figure out if it can be fixed or abandon ship. House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) challenged House Republicans to make a few sacrifices in the next year that will help the GOP sell their agenda to voters in the fall elections. The Republican leader is scheduled to lead his members in a broad, potentially rancorous debate over lawmaker-requested projects Friday during their annual retreat here. The reform proposals include a one-year moratorium on earmarks for all Republicans, the creation of a special panel to review the process, including the abuses that have occurred, and a litany of smaller guidelines to curtail wasteful earmarks or member-requested projects that benefit campaign contributors or other private entities.
Launching today (Tuesday, the 22nd) on a voyage from Germany to Venezuela, the 462' MS Beluga will be using a SkySail to provide an expected 20% fuel use savings. Pretty slick as we come full circle from sail to power moving back to sail. Wonder when we'll see more "personal" versions of this type of sail.

Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) have found that a slight change in the wind may be enough to cause a wave to become a ten-storey deadly leviathan. This is the first time that a study has given insight as to how waves big enough to sink the biggest ships develop. SEOUL (Reuters) - A South Korean-flagged freighter is feared to have capsized off the country's southern coast early on Tuesday and 14 sailors are missing, a coast guard official said. I mentioned a source of back episodes one time before, but realized that I never really referred to the show. John Greviskis is the host of this cable series. Each episode is 30 minutes and covers various boat building, repair and upkeep issues. They usually have a "project" to detail which is based around a certain manufacturer's products. They will have product experts showcase the materials used. Factory tours and various "behind the scenes" clips are often interesting.
Sometimes things are geared a bit "simple" or are a bit sales oriented for my taste, but I've learned of several products I didn't know were available, and often the advertising is as informative as the show :-)

There's a CCP developer blog up on the topic of the forthcoming ORE Capital Ship. Now, realistically, I haven't a chance of running one of those anytime soon. I suspect that from my current skill set to the skills necessary to pilot one of those is probably on the order of a year's development. And my new corporation - SierraTangoCorp [SITAC] - isn't anywhere near big enough to support that kind of mining effort. That doesn't stop me from wanting one, though...
I suppose I could work up toward an Obelisk. There are some fairly lucrative contracts to be got, hauling POS components and other big stuff down to 0.0 space, and if the contracting corp are willing to fly escort, it wouldn't even be that dangerous in these days of warp-to-zero. And from there to the ORE Capital wouldn't be such a big step.
However, given that my current ship emphasis - I have an Indy for what hauling I need - is on drones, a smarter direction to aim would be a Nyx - except, of course, it's nowhere

Correction: In a previous blog entry I wrote that I needed a paper from the Uruguay consulate certifying that I lived outside of UY for at least ten years. Apparently that is wrong.
