Skate outsells Tony Hawk 'nearly' 2 to 1Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, Sports, Business Electronic Arts might have found a contender for Tony Hawk's throne, as the publisher's skateboard title Skate enjoyed almost double the sales of the pro skater's latest. In yesterday's earning call report, EA reported, "on current generation systems, Skate outsold Tony Hawk [Proving Ground] nearly 2 to 1."Although Skate had a one-month head start in both US and Europe, both titles were out long enough to be well-stocked for the crucial holiday season. EA Delays Mercenaries 2, Applauds Skate On a recent conference call, EA's John Riccitiello announced that the company has decided to delay Mercenaries 2 until fiscal 2009. The delay will allow time for "additional polish" that will "build a better consumer experience." Battlefield Bad Company has also been delayed until fiscal 2009 for similar reasons. It's not all bad news in the house of EA, though. According to EA's Warren Jensen, Skate outsold Tony Hawk by almost two-to-one, "despite the fact that we launched on three fewer platforms." Need for Speed Pro Street and The Simpsons Game also sold like crazy, moving 5.5 million and 4 million units during the quarter, respectively. Bad news from the Electronic Arts camp: Scott Blackwood, the exececutive producer on Skate, brings word that the game's demo (set to be on Xbox Live Marketplace now) has been delayed.In a post over at the EA Forums, Blackwood breaks the bad news to a flood of angry gamers, stating server complications as the culprit."As you know," he writes, "we are trying something completely new for an Xbox Live Marketplace demo by allowing people to play the game and upload footage to our Skate Web site.
