Tottenham Hotspurs took on Arsenal at the Emirates stadium and much was expected from the recently rejuvenated spurs. They got some golden opportunities which would have sealed the fate of the match but it was some messy work from the usually reliable and classy Robbie Keane which cost the spurs the match itself. This match was a disappointment in the first half but began red hot into the second half with Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor snatching the lead for the Gunners.Tottenham had a golden chance with Robbie Keane striking the post from the mouth of the goal post.He made amends however after three minutes with a lovely reverse pass to the skilful Dimitar Berbatov who smashed it via the near post past a hapless Manuel Alumnia.Tottenham got a penalty five minutes later but Robbie Keane messed it up.Then the little known Bentdner came as a substitute for Arsenal and hit a lovely header from the corner kick to win the match for Arsenal 2-1.
Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the UEFA Cup Round of 32 after Dimitar Berbatov converted a 71st minute penalty kick equalizer to earn a crucial point from Spurs' trip to Anderlecht earlier today. Three minutes earlier, Bart Goor had put the hosts in front. The North London side now have seven points from four games and are temporarily in first place in Group G (the group's four other teams all have a game in hand).Leverkusen and Spartak Moscow also used today's games to advance to the knockout stage of the tournament. Yesterday, more than half a dozen teams did so. All told, 13 teams have booked their tickets to the Round of 32: the trio mentioned here, Everton, Villareal, FC Zürich, Panathinaoikos, Atletico Madrid, Hamburg, Basel, Bordeaux and Helsingborg. Eleven spots are still up for grabs. The eight third placed teams from the Champions League will then fill out the first knockout round, to be drawn Dec. 21.Bolton did everything they needed to today, beating the team formerly known
SOFIA (Reuters) - Juande Ramos was the ideal choice to take over as manager at Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Premier League club's Bulgarian striker
Juande Ramos, who is said to be the next manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has never managed outside Spain. His current club, Sevilla, currently sit a disappointing 11th in La Liga. None of his teams have finished higher than third in Spain's top flight (and that just happened once, last year). His Web site, JuandeRamos.com, lists his motto as "What you put into football you get back, a thousandfold." Sounds a bit simple, if you ask me. If it were truly that easy, the U.S. would have won a world cup by now, I would think. And yet, Ramos might just be the best-qualified candidate out there, at least among guys Spurs have a reasonable chance at landing. (No, Jürgen Klinsmann is not going to take the job. Neither is José Mourinho and I don't know if I'd want him in the first place). Seville have won the last two UEFA Cups, last year's Copa del Rey and this year's Spanish Super Cup. Finishing no better than third is no great crime in a league where the perennial top two are among the very bes
The Jena Six are a group of black students who are being charged with attempted murder for beating up a white student who was taunting them with racial slurs, and continued to support other white students who hung three nooses from the high schools "white tree" which sits in the front yard. A Soccer Source poll found 87% of respondents in favor of Spurs relegating England's #1 goalkeeper to the bench. The poll was conducted between Tuesday and Friday of this week. Its immediate inspiration was Robbo's horrific play in Monday night's game versus Aston Villa. A game, which, it should be added, just happened to serve as Spurs official 125th birthday celebration. Robinson's erratic play cost Spurs at least two goals and it was only through a truly inspired effort that the team was able to battle back and squeeze out a 4-4 draw (in all likelihood saving Martin Jol's job in the process). Yet the Villa game, though the immediate catalyst for the poll, was by no means Robbo's only blemish. He has been in extremely poor form for some time (probably even dating back to last season) yet continues to start for club and country alike. How much longer? Jol appears very patient with Robinson, even starting him in this week's all-but-meaningless UEFA Cup game in Cyprus. I wouldn't expect
That is the question of the day (see poll at top right). In case you missed it, Robinson had a horrible game at White Hart Lane last night. Football is for the Madman offers video evidence of his horrific display and points out that England's #1 cost Spurs three points. I find that hard to argue with. Robinson has not been himself this season, but does he deserve to be benched? I turn the question to you. Please vote...
The San Antonio Spurs closed out the series Friday night with a 114-106 victory of the Phoenix Suns.Manu Ginobili (inset) lead the way for the Spurs with 11 of 27 shooting from the field and finished with 33 points and 11 rebounds.Once again, the Spurs looked impressive in a win without swing man Robert Horry. You should be hard-pressed not to have the Spurs as your NBA champion right now.As for the Suns, Amare Stourdemire tried to make a statement as he lead all scorers with 38 points and 12 rebounds of his own. This was an entertaining series to watch. Seems like these two teams have started a rivalry now after this controversial series. Both teams seem to hate each other more than ever and I am sure we will be seeing more from both of them in the near future in the post-season. I am sure this will end up being the best series of all the playoffs once it is all said and done.San Antonio will host the Utah Jazz on Sunday in the opening game of the Western Conference finals. It's the S
