  • Nuclear assets of a “volatile state” are a threat to India: NSA
After International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Mohamed El Baradei expressed concern over the Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal, India’s National Security Adviser, M K Narayanan, without naming Pakistan has said that India faces threat from (the latter’s) nuclear assets falling into wrong hands of “volatile states.”   “What are the key challenges to Asian and global security today? The challenges are many. Quite a few are security-related and are highly daunting in nature,” said Narayanan.   “First and foremost, are existential threats and vulnerabilities that pluralistic, secular and democratic countries such as India - with rapidly modernizing economies - face from nations in the region that are authoritarian, anti-democratic and anti-secular, approximating to failed states,” he added.   In January this year, El Baradei had said that he was “worried that nuclear weapons could fall into the hands of an extremist

  • Happiness is a state of mind
Many times in our lives, we stop and ask ourselves if we're happy. Happy with the way life is treating us, happy with our work, happy with our homes, happy with ourselves. There is no yardstick for measuring how happy we are. Lots of self help books I've read, suggest that happiness is a state of mind. Same goes for success. Do you agree? After reading those books, I certainly do. There is power in positive thinking, and power in negative thinking too. One negative thought leads to another, and very soon, we make ourselves angry about something very trivial. However, if we think positively, we become positive and enjoy life more. Do you enjoy reading such books? Then you should definitely try the book "Happy for No Reason" by Marci Shimoff, author of the mega-bestseller "The Secret,". She introduces the The Sedona Method and invites people to use this book and find out the techniques to let go of negative thoughts and feelings. Reading this book will be very beneficial, and provide yo

Click here to listen. My Odeo Channel (odeo/401119bca2a25dfb)It's easy to see why professional golfers become distracted when Tiger Woods is somewhere in the pack. If he's only a few strokes back, chances are his resolve will carry him to victory. That is precisely what happened this weekend at the Dubai Desert Classic. On the flip side, no one seems to be afraid of Phil Mickelson.J.B. Holmes' memories of a 2006 victory at the FBR Open was all he needed to maintain his purpose for this year's event. And, the claim to fame that he beat Mickelson was also a good incentive.Phil's putter let him down once again claiming that a misread putt and a few that "slid by the edge" contributed to a playoff. Although Butch Harmon has been working with Mickelson on his 150-yard approach shots, Lefty found that his golf ball wasn't as close to the hole as was Na's. That must have also frustrated him. This week on our Golf for Beginners podcast we discuss Mickelson's views from the putter. Is it better to

  • (Game) Time is not on San Diego State's Side
The Mountain West Conference, which includes San Diego State, just couldn’t wait to get away from the crummy starting times its athletic events were receiving on networks such as ESPN.So the conference went ahead and joined partnership with CSTV and even has its own television station, so to speak, called the mtn.So now, those inconvenient late morning and late evening starting times are gone … or are they?Have you noticed that the San Diego State men’s basketball team hosts the Air Force Academy at 8 pm Wednesday to accommodate the mtn. TV broadcast? So, what ever happened to those much better weeknight starting times of 7 pm when the Aztecs were being televised by Channel 4 San Diego?Well, not only has this wonderful deal with the mtn. made for worse starting times; it has also taken away a large majority of local viewers. If you are lucky (or unlucky) enough to even be able to watch the games on the mtn., consider yourself in a sizeable minority. The mtn. was supposed to solve th

  • Operation Gladio and the Turkish deep State: arrests made.
For years Turkish civil liberties groups, writers, journalists, left-wing and islamic political activists and others have demanded of various governments that they expose the ‘deep state’ that at times of crises operates in conjunction with elements within the government bureaucracy, the armed forces, the police and the judiciary. At various time in recent history, when ever the Turkish government have been about to introduce progressive legislation, for example by making concessions to the Kurdish minority which would enable their democratic rights, the country has been rocked by a wave of bombings and/or politically motivated violence which have destabilized the government of the day. Many Leftists, academics and political analysts have come to believe the membership of this ‘Deep State’ originated in the cold war period when the US security services and military organized ‘stay behind’ units of paramilitary organizations within most Nato countries, under a program call
  • Wine Communism: U.S. State's Non-Compliance to Wine Shipping Laws
Here's a little quiz for all of you out there in wine-land. What do you call a government that:Limits the choices of products available to its citizens by offering them only via government-run monopoly that has no incentive to provide competitive prices, good customer service, or expanded selection;Charges its citizens a premium for the "privilege" of the products limited choices & poor service, including taxation on goods already controlled by the government;Refuses to change archaic legislation that was enacted over 50 years ago, in order to protect its monopoly position & profits;Does nothing to alter its stance or comply with changing federal law, nearly three years after its current legislation has been deemed unconstitutional at both the federal and regional levels? In most circles, the first two points could be considered Communism.Technically, the later two points aren't Communism, but I'd like to think that most people would at least consider them reprehensible...Unfor
  • Israeli State perpetrating grave crimes in Gaza.
It is high time the world woke up to the crimes the Israeli government is committing against the people who live in the blockaded Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. When those who are party to these crimes are eventually brought to book, none us will be able to say we new nothing about the crimes the Israeli government are perpetrating in Gaza, as they have filled our TV screens nightly and make no mistake crimes they are, as to cut off vital supplies of electricity and fuel (and therefore water, since the pumps cannot work), as well as essential foodstuffs, medicines and other humanitarian supplies amounts to a collective punishment, which under the Fourth Geneva Convention constitutes a clear and unequivocal war crime.*This situation is made far worse by the fact that the government of the USA has actively encourage Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip and those governments who make up the EU Nations have acquiesced to this war crime, which the Israeli administration has taken
  • Pakistan, an unfailing friend or failing state!
Evidence of Pakistan's looming disintegration is visible everywhere, and it would not be farfetched to say that 2007 was the year when Pakistan was lost to the world. and more specifically to the United States, says a member of the U.S.Congress. According to Representative Jane Harman of California, who is the chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Intelligence and Terrorism Risk Assessment, Pakistan has become a cesspool of political instability and terrorism. She cites various developments as being responsible for the present scenario in Pakistan. Starting with President Pervez Musharraf failing to reach a settlement for peace with tribals to the sacking the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in March, the Lal Masjid stand-off in July, the failed return of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in September, Benazir Bhutto's return to Pakistan in October's return to Pakistan, the declaration of an emergency in November and Bhutto's assassination on December 27, Pakistan h
  • State Bank head says Indian rates may have peaked
MUMBAI (Reuters) - The chairman of India's biggest commercial bank said on Wednesday interest rates in India may have peaked, a day after the U.S. Federal Reserve slashed rates and prompted calls for cuts in India. State Bank of India expects loans growth to pick up in the March quarter and is on track for a planned $4.3 billion rights share issue despite the recent volatility in the Indian equities market, O.P. Bhatt said. "I think interest rates have peaked," he told reporters on the sidelines of a conference. Asked when rates will come down, Bhatt said: "I would not like to comment." A leading industry lobby group on Wednesday urged the central bank to cut interest rates to strengthen domestic economic fundamentals against the backdrop of an uncertain global environment. India's central bank is set to review policy on Jan. 29. The Fed cut its benchmark interest rate by 75 basis points on Tuesday, its biggest reduction in the target lending rate in

  • A Granite State Wingnut Alert
I admit to being a novice about New Hampshire politics, but it set off a warning bell or two when I read here that Jennifer Horn, who apparently is a media type in those parts, has decided to challenge first-term Dem U.S. House Rep. Paul Hodes. What I do know is that Hodes is endorsed by Act Blue (here) and, out of a possible 1185 votes cast by the House during his term thus far, he has missed four votes. That’s impressive. So why exactly does Horn want to oust him?(She) says New Hampshire voters elected Hodes to change Washington, but that Washington has changed him. She says she would work for smaller government, to cut taxes and wasteful spending, to develop a long-term energy solution, for immigration reform and to support the military and veterans.Yep, I think you could pretty much expect any Repug from the freeper-cookie-cutter mold to spout that stuff (and by the way, she wrote this fawning column about Frederick of Hollywood that positively made me gag; sounds like Hodes support

  • Schwarzenegger's closing 48 California state parks
If governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's gets his budget passed, 48 California state parks will be closing. Mount San Jacinto State Park, California Citrus State Historic Park, William Randolph Hearst Memorial State Beach, California State Mining and Mineral Museum are just a few of the parks and beaches on the chopping block. The gates would be locked in 2009 and remain closed until enough money is available to reopen them. What is the governator thinking. All of these parks are attractions for locals and tourists. And guess what tourist do, they spend money which creates tax revenue. Lets hope Arnold can come up with a better plan to balance the state budget than terminating California state parks.
  • Charlie Wilson's War...A Commentary on the current state of affairs.
“Synopsis  Charlie Wilson's War Urged on by his staunchly anti-communist friend and romantic interest, Joanne Herring, Wilson leads the effort to provide United States funds indirectly to the Afghan Mujahideen. In the process, the film also reveals Wilson as a Congressman with a gregarious social life of women and partying, which results in a federal investigation into his alleged cocaine use that never resulted in any charges. Herring persuades Wilson to visit the Pakistani leadership who complains about the inadequate support to oppose the Soviets and insists he visits a major Afghan refugee camp. Deeply moved by their misery and determination to fight, Wilson is frustrated by the regional CIA personnel's insistence on a low key approach against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. Wilson leads an effort to substantially increase funding to the mujahedeen in his role as a member of two major Congressional defense committees. As part of this effort, Wilson befriends the ma
