  • Book Review: Roast Chicken and Other Stories
And a cookbook review from BlogCritics:Simon Hopkinson is a venerable English chef and newspaper columnist who enjoys pushing for simple, home-y food. This cookbook, originally published in London in 1994, is a small but useful collection of Hopkinson's favorite recipes, along with personal stories and asides to accompany each one.My husband is a retired chef and his most basic meals are my favorites. Not that I don't love the rolled and stuffed game hens or the complex patés, but nothing compares to his beef lentil soup and his roast chicken with garlic buttermilk mashed potatoes. In Roast Chicken and Other Stories we find a celebration of simple home cooking. There's plenty of butter, cream, and other "no-no's" to be found, but very little processed pre-cooked and microwaved food. This book celebrates fresh food, be it potatoes, chicken, or calves brains. It is simply organized around Hopkinson's favorite ingredients, and while many of them are not appetizing to an American tast

  • Reviews by Einstein My Border Collie Dog as well as Articles, Stories, Dog Product Review, Toys, Treats, Food and Everything with My Pet Reviews
I wanted to add pet product reviews to my blog. But I cannot use or eat pet products myself for various reason because the main thing I am a human, LOL. Then I thought well maybe I should add my dog to the blog then thinking that is a good idea. Since he is the one who uses those products anyway that is perfect thing to do. So the dog product reviews will be the opinion of my dog if he likes them or not. The only thing I will do is type it up for him but it being his opinion. Like with any dog each one like different products and tastes. About Einstein, he loves dog toys even more than treats like frisbees, dog balls, and toys. Einstein will be reviewing those kinds of products more than anything else. Along with some dog supplements, foods and treats. Now my cat Sam is jealous of me showcasing the dog on my blog and not him. They compete with each other for my attention. Therefore, I will add my cat Sam to review cat products and articles. Along with reviews and articles by my three

  • Made-up stories about Paul McCartney and Heather Mills
Now, while we accept there's a slight possibility, given 2007's trail of on-the-record public statements, that it's not entirely impossible that Heather Mills believed Paul McCartney's dance routine with Kylie Minogue on the Hootenanny was designed to be a jibe at her, on balance, we're betting that the the Sunday Mirror story is a load of old scrumpyrat. The paper also claims that Mills has got the hump that McCartney bought Beatrice Barbie stuff for Christmas - as Barbie is "a bad role model". • Vietnam Zippos: American Soldiers' Engravings and Stories (1965-1973)
We are the unwilling, led by the unqualified, doing the unnecessary for the ungrateful—from an engraving on a Vietnam-era Zippo lighter In 1965, journalist Morley Safer followed the United States Marines on a search and destroy mission into Cam Ne. When the Marines he accompanied reached the village, they ordered the civilians there to evacuate their homes—grass huts whose thatched roofs they set ablaze with Zippo lighters. Safer’s report on the event soon aired on CBS and was among the first to paint a harrowing portrait of the War in Vietnam. LBJ responded to the segment furiously, accusing Safer of having “shat on the American flag.” For the first time since World War II, American boys in uniform had been portrayed as murderers instead of liberators. Our perception of the war—and the Zippo lighter—would never be the same. But as this stunning book attests, the Zippo was far more than an instrument of death and destruction. For the American soldiers who wielded them, the

  • The Top 5 Mobile - Wireless Stories of 2008
ComputerWorld's David Haskin gives some thought to the top wireless stories of 2008, and I think these 5 points are worth pondering:1. Will Sprint's WiMAX effort succeed? Sprint says its Xohm WiMAX will be cheaper and faster than 3G. Others believe it's not enough to drive people to Sprint. Telecom consultant, Derek Kerton, says, "It's the do or die year for WiMAX."I agree. But my fingers are still crossed on their behalf. If they succeed, it's going to be great for competition within the industry.2. Will Sprint remain independent? It all depends on Hesse's ability to do two things: - stop the bleeding (churn)...and, - make WiMAX succeed.3. Industry consolidationAs noted in the article, Sprint's challenges make it the likely takeover target. But 2008 will bring a lot of consolidation in the wireless industry. Which is cool, as we'll have lots to write about.4. Openness comes to mobilityIt's all about openness: open platforms for m

  • Romance in Bollywood, Bollywood Romance, Are love stories being made in Bollywood?
Bollywood romance Romance in Bollywood movies have taken a back seat.Have people forgotten what is to be in love? Well, it seems like if Bollywood definitely has. The mellifluous ethereal feeling of love has been replaced by comedy, thriller and topics on infidelity. The age old recipe of success-Boy meets Girl is no more in the scene. The last Bollywood love story was Hum Tum released three years ago in 2004. Between the years 2002 to 2004, there have been successful and experimental love stories in the form of Saathiya, Chalte Chalte, Hum Tum and Veerz Zara. After 2004, Bollywood has not shown much of an interest in romance In fact, there is no suitable replacement to Shahrukh Khan or Salman Khan who played the lover boy roles reasonably well in their times. Shahrukh donned the role of Don and is now presently riding high after leading his all girl hockey team to box-office success in Chak De. Salman Khan on the other hand is choosing ‘humor’ as his cup of tea; his movie Pa

I wrote this story this morning it takes place during autumn, halloween and thanksgiving about a pumpkin named Charlie. Charlie was the first pumpkin to grow the biggest in size. He was the best in the pumpkin patch to become the favorite one of them all. Charlie was the first one chosen to be carved to become the most popular jack o lantern of them all. However, the tragic turn in this horrifying Halloween story that Charlie was also the first one chosen to be eaten. • Short Stories (another babble about this)
Anyone reading about science fiction right now will undoubtedly have heard about the demise of the short story market. I think of all the forms that science fiction (and fantasy) comes in, the short form is the one that is most likely to die as a viable market. Anthologies and collections will still be around, but the magazine market, I think, is in serious danger of going away. The sad part of this is that the science fiction short has such an amazing history. Some of the first stories in science fiction were short stories! Go back to the days of Astounding, IF, Galaxy, Imaginative Tales, etc. I certainly wasn't alive when those magazines were initially running, but I am such a sucker for what I would call 'historical science fiction', meaning SF that is of historical import to the genre. I even have some twenty years worth of back issues from the early days of Analog to today. I certainly have not read all of them, but I have read a good portion and I love them to death. So, w

  • Horror Stories
Eight days til Halloween! Times for ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggity beasties and things that go bump in the night. I can’t say I understand why people get such a thrill out of scaring themselves silly, even though I participate myself from time to time. Is it the adrenaline rush? Or does an occasional horror story make us feel better about our normal everyday lives? It could be a leftover from our childhood, when our older siblings, and sometimes our parents got such a kick out of frightening us. Or maybe the act of telling a scary story gives us a sense of power over the people we are scaring. I always felt like some kind of success when I could scare someone just with a little story.
