Last October when the Liberals won a long time Liberal seat in London North Centre, the message was that Canadians trusted the Liberals again. When they lose a fortress riding like Outremont the message is the "NDP were better messengers" ?
What's significant in these byelections was not so much the Liberal loss in Outremont but their virtual also-ran status in the other ridings. Less than 10% in St. Hyancinthe, where they were even beat by the NDP and 9.6% in Roberval--Lac-Saint-Jean.
The Conservatives have supplanted the Liberals as the federalist option in Quebec, outside of Montreal.
The "native son" just got his walking papers from the people of Quebec.
