For Jessica Simpson, Valentine's Day was spent Texas-style: The singer and beau Tony Romo dined together at Nove Italiano restaurant in Dallas. "All eyes were on them," one insider says of the singer and the Dallas Cowboys quarterback. "But they sat in a corner booth to try and get some privacy."Simpson was wearing a sexy crimson dress, and the pair were seen being very affectionate with each other. The couple kick-started their romantic meal with a bottle of Cristal champagne, followed by spaghetti bolognaise. As for dessert, the sweet of the day was on the menu, of course: Simpson and Romo cozily shared chocolate-covered strawberries along with chocolate mousse before heading out through the restaurant's special VIP exit (also known as the kitchen), where they darted off in a waiting limo.– Kelly Rondeau
In the wake of the “Potomac Primaries” in DC, Maryland and Virginia on Tuesday, a lot of people have been buying our Election 2008 buttons, bumper stickers, lawn signs and t-shirts, and a big whopping lot of those people making purchases hail from Ohio and Texas. To satisfy my curiosity, I checked out the [...]

This just in from smartertravel.com. "Viva Vivaaerobus! The low-cost airline that's been serving points in Mexico from Austin, Texas, since last year has announced new daily nonstops from Austin to Cancun and Monterrey, Mexico, with fares starting at $9.99 each-way (not including taxes and fees). Service begins on May 1, and the limited super-cheap fares require at least a five-week advance purchase." By Daniel Trotta NEW YORK (Reuters) - Hillary Clinton hammered Barack Obama in voting among Hispanic voters on "Super Tuesday" and he needs to spend more time and money courting them if he hopes to close the gap, political analyst say. As expected, Clinton won big majorities of Latino voters in nearly all the 22 states participating in the Democratic presidential nominating contests, with exit polls showing her winning two-thirds of the Latino vote in several states. That could pose a problem for Obama in the next big contest with Latino voters, on March 4 in Texas. Clinton has long courted Hispanics, the fastest-growing segment of the electorate, and her superior name recognition combined with Obama's relatively late entry into national politics gives her a natural advantage. In California, where a CNN exit poll showed Latinos accounted for 29 percent of Democratic voters, Clinton took 69 percent of their vote compared to 29 percent for Obama. She won similar m

First California's governor now Texas'...From the Dallas Morning News: LOS ANGELES – Texas Gov. Rick Perry will endorse John McCain for president, saying he is the best candidate in the GOP field to fight the war on terror. The Texas governor's first choice, Rudy Giuliani, dropped out of the presidential sweepstakes and on Wednesday endorsed Mr. McCain. "For the governor, it came down to a very simple calculation: The single dominant issue is the war on terror," said Perry spokesman Robert Black. "And he believes, looking at the field, the single best individual to be commander in chief and not flinch in this war is John McCain." The endorsement from the red-state governor comes just days before the Super Tuesday primary in which 21 states will weigh in. Mr. Perry will formally make his endorsement Thursday afternoon in Austin. Getting endorsements from the governors from the two most populous states in the nation back to McCain lost a lot of points in border s

Waterfront and Texas don’t usually go hand in hand but that’s exactly what you’ll find at Eagle Mountain Reserve which is built alongside Lake Buchanan and offers pretty much everything that you’d expect of a beachfront development but it’s just 70 miles from Austin.
Texas waterfront property it may be but this is very much an upmarket [...]
Decide to BuyThe first step in buying a house is to try and understand what you hope to achieve. When you begin to think about buying a new house, there are many questions you should ask yourself such as: Why do I want to move? How soon do I want to move? How long do I plan on living in the home? For some people renting or putting off buying makes sense. Expect to commit to your home for 3-5 years if you want to avoid losing money on the home.Needs AnalysisOnce you decided that home ownership is right for you will want to decide a few things: What are the most important features to you in a house? How much do you want to invest in your home? Initially? Every month? Do you have lifestyle changes coming, such as adding a baby, having kids move out, or retiring? What part of town do you want to live in? What school district do you want your kids to go to school in? Once your goals are clearly defined you have your target.Get Pre-QualifiedAn important part of the home buying process is to

Texans in general are a laid back bunch of folks. We’re generally not in a big hurry to get from place to place, and rather than seeing people power walk through a parking lot to get back to their car, you are far more likely to see a person “mosey” while yapping happily with [...]

STEPHENVILLE, Texas (AP) - In this farming community where nightfall usually brings clear, starry skies, residents are abuzz over reported sightings of what many believe is a UFO.
Several dozen people - including a pilot, county constable and business owners - insist they have seen a large silent object with bright lights flying low and fast. [...]

Houston oilman Oscar Wyatt will spend much of next year in his old hometown when he reports to a minimum security prison in Beaumont.Wyatt, 83, who pleaded guilty on Oct. 1 to a single count of conspiring to make illegal payments for Iraqi oil under the United Nations' Oil-for-Food program, is to report to prison by Jan. 2.Beaumont, Wyatt's birthplace, is the closest minimum security federal prison to his Houston home. U.S. District Court Judge Denny Chin recommended the facility to Bureau of Prison officials, who have the last word.READ MORE... I'm signed up for TLA. Did it too late to get a decent rate on a conference hotel so I'll be staying behind the convention center. From the map it looks close, not a bad walk. I'm on the ballot for councilor for the Digital Library group. So, I'll be going there and to the TRGCC events.Last Spring I suggested they have Cali Lewis on the program. She lives in Dallas and has a video podcast, Geekbrief. Her story is great, two years ago she was working at a u-rent-space place and heard about podcasting. Without any experience she and her husband started one . Now, that is their job. She has been on TV and rubs shoulders with Web 2.0 luminaries. Since I was the one to suggest her, I hope she gets a good turnout. I should be there unless it conflicts with the DL or TRGCC events, or its part of a preconference workshop. Hope not.
Here are a few pics from the Esther's Follies show that i saw in Austin Texas 2 weekends ago. The show is on 6th Street in downtown Austin and it has been running for 30 years. I had never heard of the show and when i was younger would not have enjoyed it but now I really loved the show and the funny skits and magic tricks that were preformed. The players were top notch and they all had a very political slant to the comedy! If you are ever in Austin, I STRONGLY recommend going to see the show! You will not be disappointed!!! The pics are not the best as i used my Cam Phone to take them.Ray Anderson He IS TOP NOTCH!!!Ray Anderson, Austin’s nationally renowned magician has been caught up in the tornado that is Esther’s Follies for over fifteen years. Deemed “best spellbinder” by the Austin Chronicle, Ray perplexes both audience members and curious 6th Street revelers peering through Esther’s trademark windows. The Texas Longhorns basketball team is picking up where it left off last season, without Kevin Durant.Texas has started the 2007-2008 season strong and fast, rattling off 5 impressive wins thus far, with the most impressive win coming against the 7th ranked Tennessee Volunteers Saturday night, 97-78.Their first win was against lowly Texas-San Antonio, but after that they've shown they're indeed a force to be reckoned with again in the Big XII. They then beat UC-Davis 73-42 with Jr. guard A.J. Abrams shooting 9-15 from the field and finishing with 21 points. Abrams decided to put on another show, putting up 30 on Arkansas-Monticello while going 8-12 from three point land. Then after going up against a decent New Mexico St. team, Abrams put down 31 and went 9-12 from behind the arc, while sophomore sensation D.J. Augustin piled up 25 of his own.Yes, you can say those teams weren't very formidable opponents, but Texas shot over 54% in 3 of those games and their defense clamped down on the

Now this i like!...From The Houston Chronicle:The nation's largest manure-to-natural gas plant got up and running Monday in the heart of Texas dairy country, a project expected to produce enough energy to power 11,000 homes a year.In a high-profile example of the growing need for alternative energy, Huckabay Ridge gets manure from local dairy farms, processes it with grease and other restaurant waste, purifies it and turns it into natural gas."The beauty is that you take the waste products and you create a useful form of energy," said Richard Kessel, president and CEO of Portsmouth, N.H.-based Environmental Power Corp. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Microgy Inc., owns the facility. "We look at these as non-depleting gas wells with a long-term supply of renewable energy."The Lower Colorado River Authority buys the gas and uses it to power homes in Central Texas, officials said. Next fall, San Francisco-based Pacific Gas & Electric Co. will buy natural gas from Huckabay Ridge, which wi
