I attended a Neil Young concert at the brand new, gleaming, post-modern, purple neon-accented Nokia Theater, which opened last month in downtown Los Angeles. I’ll post an astrological concert review very soon, but was struck with a couple of Pluto in Capricorn observations about the venue:It’s named after a cell phone company. One huge wall inside the theater lobby displayed different models of Nokia phones. It was like walking into a very large mobile phone store. Corporations are taking over the world. I know this is not exactly breaking news, but I was struck with how in-your-face it’s become.The security was very tight. I’ve been to plenty of concerts, but nothing ever approached the security we experienced at this theater. I had a similar experience the first (and only) time that I was in a straight porno theater. I went for the same reason as the previous post, I had never seen porn on a big screen. Even if you are on the freeway full of cars to go to the movie theater, you are willing to take this to be able to watch the new Transformer movie. The sight the sound the smell of popcorn at a movie theater is what makes us go back there every so often. We easily get lost in the movie scene because of the bigger than life pictures and surround sound that takes you there beside the characters in the movie. This may prove to be costly in the end but we continue to do this because we love to go to movie theaters and see movies. If you can bring home a movie theater, it will be good and I am sure you will love the idea. However, before you say no, think again. Here’s something we don’t hear about often. The Odeon cinema chain in the UK has pulled an advertisement that was being screened before all films as part of the search effort for Madeleine McCann, the four year old that disappeared from her parent’s hotel room in Portugal.
Apparently the announcements were pulled after parents complained about the advert, which showed a picture of Madeleine and describing how she was taken. I haven’t seen the advert, so I can’t speak to more details than are available in the Variety story but I wonder if there’s more to this than meets the eye.
