  • Women, Stop Identity Thieves!
Identity theft is rising every day around the world. There are thousands – maybe even millions of scammers sitting in scrunched up offices, executing their plans to steal your identity and profit... • EVE: Punching Thieves
So I was poking around a few belts in a 0.5 sec system in EVE last night, killing off NPC pirates (rats), and salvaging and looting as I went. And this guy showed up, fairly legitimately salvaging wrecks that other people had left lying around, and then going after my wrecks. Now, him salvaging my wrecks is annoying, but allowed - salvage, it's felt, is not loot. It was when he started lifting my loot as well that I got annoyed. There's an automatic aggression flag that goes on when you steal loot from someone else (or anything at all from a can they've jettisoned). So having checked with some more knowledgeable players that Concord would not come and beat on me, I locked my sights on him as a warning. He popped another wreck. He was flying what looked like a Vexor, a good cruiser-class drone ship. However, I'm aware that the T2 Ishtar-class looks very much the same, so I took a good look at the information before going any further. But no, he was definitely there, in a T1 cruiser, popp

  • Thieves chilled by new credit report law
Recently seven people in US District Court in Hammond admitted their role in an identity theft plan that rang up $400,000 in unauthorized credit card purchases from 1998 to 2004. How they were able to do it? They used to collect people personal data from a car rental desk at O'Hare International Airport and used that date to obtain credit cards by other people names. This show how easy identity
  • Texan Kills Thieves: Hero or Homicidal?
HOUSTON (AP) - The cha-chick of a shell entering a shotgun’s chamber rattled through the 911 line just before Joe Horn stepped out his front door. Horn, 61, had phoned police when he saw two men break into his neighbor’s suburban Houston home through a window in broad daylight. Now they were getting away with a [...]
  • Album Review: Vanessa Carlton - Heroes & Thieves
Singer and songwriter, Vanessa Carlton’s newest record Heroes & Thieves picks up where her last album left off yet does not continue to head in that same direction. There are plenty of pop songs, but also just as many songs that don’t fit the traditional radio song format. Just like many of the other songs [...]
  • Swimming Pool Thieves Stump Homeowner
I found this story on MSNBC.com this morning and I thought it was pretty funny. PATERSON, N.J. - Daisy Valdivia is annoyed that someone stole her backyard pool — and baffled at how they did it without leaving behind a splash, drip or trace of the 1,000 gallons of water it contained. Valdivia awoke to find her family’s hip-high, inflatable, 10-foot diameter swimming pool gone from her back yard Wednesday. Then I thought to myself, “Self, how the fuck would you get rid of 1,000 gallons of water without leaving a drop behind?”. A gallon of water weighs about 8.34 lbs so it’s not like these bastards just loaded 8340 lbs on a truck and drove off. After a quick Google search I had the answer. Check out this ebay auction for a Rieschie Water Pump. This electrical pump is capable of pumping 230 gallons per minute and the current bid is only $25. Since it’s electric you know the thing is going to be damn near silent. So these clever ass thieves could hook something similar to
  • Lock up your Steel, thieves take weighty haul
Thieves who stole more than 200 bars of steel from a South Tyneside engineering company are being sought by police. The metal, weighing a total of 26 tons and valued at £21,000, was taken from the compound of Simco Engineering on the Simonside Industrial estate. Each bar weighs 200 kilos, and police say a crane or a team of at least eight people would have been needed to lift them onto a truck. A skip full of scrap metal was also taken during the break-in. It is believed the metal will have been smelted down for sale. Link to BBC NEWS
