2K jumps on Unreal Engine 3 train for unnamed titlesFiled under: NewsToday Epic announced that Take Two Interactive's publishing label 2K Games will be using Unreal Engine 3 to power upcoming and unannounced titles currently in development. Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games, told Gamesindustry.biz, "We are excited about continuing our relationship with 2K based on our past success with the company." Rein, who was referring to the success of the Unreal powered BioShock, wasn't the only happy camper in this tale of adoption. "2K had a very positive experience working with Epic's Unreal Engine 3 since it enables games to perform exceptionally well on both console and the PC," said 2K president Christoph Hartmann. Look at that, Unreal adopted by another company. Love the engine, but at this rate General Electric is going to buy a license to start making home appliances. Unreal is taking over the world and when used properly the results are outstanding. Read | Permalink | Em
There has been much talk about using metadata from other communities to enrich our catalogs and/or lower the costs of cataloging. Recently there has been quite a flap on AUTOCAT when distributors have dumped minimun level records into OCLC. Now Karen Coyle has looked at Titles in Retail and Publisher Data. Real data.
I don’t remember these titles from when I was a kid but it looks like they would have made story hour a whole lot cooler.
Thanks to GK for sending these in.

NPD: Four Titles At Million Mark In November What a great month it was for hardware this month, and what an even better month for software. In total four titles on a single system were around or above on million sold, and that’s only accounting for single platforms, as three of those four are found on multiple platforms. Super Mario Galaxy sold very well, but top honors went to Call of Duty 4. We all know Nintendo is rolling in the money in hardware, but software goes to Activision, who is laughing their way to the bank. It’s interesting to note that formerly top selling Guitar Hero 3 on the 360 did not breach the list, instead PS2 cleaned up, with Wii still cracking number 8. It’s a little weird to see a third party title not represented by 360. Could supply constraints be the issue on that one? Meanwhile, Rockband also failed to make the list, while an amazing title, surely the high price tag is holding back the masses. Finally note: Even with 1.5 million in hardwar

I finally watched the movie 300 last weekend. With a title like that, my brain thinks of two possibilities: a baseball flick (about a pitcher chasing 300 wins or a hitter chasing a .300 batting average) or a documentary about the average SAT score for America’s high schoolers. Still, as misleading movie titles go, 300 [...]
