  • Lot Sizes and Leverage in Forex Trading
I think most of you will know by now that one of the major advantages in Forex Trading is the high degree of leverage provided by most brokerage companies. In the Forex market, depending on which brokerage firm a trader use, $1,000 could control $100,000 in currency. Such controlling leverage of 100 to 1 [...]
  • The History of FOREX Trading
The origin of Forex trading traces its history to centuries ago. Different currencies and the need to exchange them had existed since the Babylonians. They are credited with the first use of paper notes and receipts. Speculation hardly ever happened, and certainly the enormous speculative activity in the market today would have been frowned upon.In those days, the value of goods were expressed in terms of other goods(also called as the Barter System). The obvious limitations of such a system encouraged establishing more generally accepted mediums of exchange. It was important that a common base of value could be established. In some economies, items such as teeth, feathers even stones served this purpose, but soon various metals, in particular gold and silver, established themselves as an accepted means of payment as well as a reliable storage of value. Trade was carried among people of Africa, Asia etc through this system.Coins were initially minted from the preferred metal and in sta

  • Detroit fishwrap comment of the day - Trading Shaun Rogers is lame brained
Killer Kowalski decides to nip the Roy Williams trade rumors in the bud, claiming the Lions would rather keep the legend in his own mind wide receiver. It would take "overwhelming value" in return to even contemplate a trade, as Detroit would rather get one more big season out of Williams before he bolts for free agency.Killer also claims the Lions won't franchise their mercurial wide out, and are hoping that Mike Martz leaving town will help convince the diva receiver to re-sign with the Honolulu blue and silver. As for Shaun Rogers, the Lions are much more open to unloading the rotund one for less in return.Being this is commentary from the Killer, just conjecture on his part, and not news, it should be taken with a truckload of salt.Mliver origintsi1 decides to comment on something the Killer said, but your guess is as good as mine what that might be. • Swing Trading For Profit a Live Example
Swing trading is one of the best ways to make money in forex trading, it's also a lot easier psychologically than trend following. It's therefore a great way to trade for novice traders. Over the last few weeks we have looked at some live examples:Banked 4 profits, scratched one trade at break even and have one open. Let's look at it and another potential opportunity.First why is swing trading an easy way to trade? When we say is easy, we mean psychologically. You get in quick with low pre defined risk and you're normally out in 2 - 5 days with a good profit. This is much easier than long term trend following, in that you do not have to wait for months and see dips eat into your open profit.Long term trend following is highly profitable but requires a lot more discipline. We personally mix the two ways of trading to gain some diversification of style and smooth the equity curve.Swing trading basicsWe normally look for important chart support and resistance and trade contrary to it.We wait f

  • Trading with Stochastics
Stochastics are amongst the most popular technical indicators when it comes to Forex Trading. Unfortunately most traders use them incorrectly. In this article we will review the correct way to use this popular technical indicator.George Lane developed this indicator in the late 1950s. Stochastics measure the current close relative to the range (high/low) over a set of periods.Stochastics consist of two lines:%K – Is the main line and is usually displayed as a solid line%D – Is simply a moving average of the %K and is usually displayed as a dotted lineThere are three types of Stochastics: Full, fast and slow stochastics. Hello Friends!  Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting my blog, Stock Picks Bob's Advice!  As always, please remember that I am an amateur investor, so please remember to consult with your professional investment advisers prior to making any investment decisions based on information on this website.Earlier today I sold my remaining 350 shares of ININ at $15.80.  These shares were the remaining shares of one of my 'trades' and thus, my 'trading rules' for this position meant that they were to be sold at break-even if the stock price should decline to that level.  As per my previous comments, I am not sure that I shall continue to do any of these trades at all, but this has been my strategy for these purchases of stock. My shares of ININ were purchased 1/31/08 at a cost basis of $15.76/share.  Thus at $15.80, the stock had come down to break-even, and I chose to sell my remaining shares.  Interactive Intelligence closed today at $15.5

According to the latest rumours Shaquille O Neal who is enduring a hip injury and the disastrous season of his career is all set to be traded to the phoenix suns for Shawn Marion and Marcus banks. But the question is that whether the Suns will give up a promising player and a superstar like Marion in his prime for a guy like Shaq who has had the lowest productive season so far in his career remains to be seen.If this trade is pulled off then it will go down as one of the least anticipated trades in the NBA history.Another question asked is that will O neal blend well in the Phoenix run and gun style of offense and their fast break offense. Will Marion be willing to go to Heat although he demanded to be traded at the start of the season?Well we must wait and see.

Hello Friends!  Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting my blog, Stock Picks Bob's Advice!  As always, please remember that I am an amateur investor, so please remember to consult with your professional investment advisers prior to making any investment decisions based on information on this website. This afternoon, when the selling pressure became more severe, my Precision Castparts stock, which was actually moving higher originally, turned lower and hit a sale point and was sold.   I sold my 64 shares of PCP at $108.79.  I had actually purchased these share on 10/24/06 at $69.05 so realized a gain of $39.74/share or 57.6% on these shares since purchase. You might be asking the why of my sale.  Why did I sell the stock NOW when the stock was ahead by 57.6% since purchase?  In fact, this sale was dictated by my own trading portfolio management system.  That is,  since I had sold shares four times previously at approximately 30, 60, 90

Hello Friends!  Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting my blog, Stock Picks Bob's Advice!  As always, please remember that I am an amateur investor, so please remember to consult with your professional investment advisers prior to making any investment decisions based on information on this website.Earlier today I found that my latest stock purchase, Graham Corp (GHM) had hit a sale point on the downside and I sold my 210 shares at $41.34.  These shares had just been purchased on 1/10/08 at a price of $46.27.  Thus, my loss on these shares worked out to $(4.93)/share or (10.7)% since purchase.  My trading rules dictate me to implement sales as stocks hit (8)% losses.  I am fairly 'old-fashioned' with these sales and monitor my stocks manually.  With the fast-moving market, I probably should consider automatically setting up these transactions.Since this stock sale is on 'bad news', I do not have any permission to replace this

Hello Friends!  Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting my blog, Stock Picks Bob's Advice!  As always, please remember that I am an amateur investor, so please remember to consult with your professional investment advisers prior to making any investment decisions based on information on this website. With my partial sale of Meridian (VIVO), I now had a 'permission slip' to be looking for another position to add to my trading account.  Especially at just 10 positions, I use a sale of a portion of an existing position within the account as a  signal that moves me towards the 20 position maximum.  My minimum holdings number 5 but I haven't gotten that close to that level yet.  In that case, even with a sale on bad news, I would be entitled to add a new position as long as it 'qualified.'With that nickel burning a hole in my pocket, I went right away to the top % gainers list.  Lately, I have been starting with the list of top %

Hello Friends!  Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting my blog, Stock Picks Bob's Advice!  As always, please remember that I am an amateur investor, so please remember to consult with your professional investment advisers prior to making any investment decisions based on information on this website.Shortly after selling my Harris Stock I was pleased to see that not all of my stocks were 'falling out of bed' today and that Meridian Bioscience, one of my most successful of holdings had moved higher to another appreciation target.  Thus, I sold 1/7th of my 199 shares or 28 shares of VIVO at $34.43/share.  Meridian (VIVO) was purchased almost 3 years ago on 4/21/05 with a cost basis of $7.42/share (!) giving me a gain of $27.01/share or a 364% appreciation on these shares. This was my eighth partial sale of Meridian in my account having previously sold portions at 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240, 300, and now 360% appreciation levels.  When would I sell n

Hello Friends!  Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting my blog, Stock Picks Bob's Advice!  As always, please remember that I am an amateur investor, so please remember to consult with your professional investment advisers prior to making any investment decisions based on information on this website.Yesterday I demonstrated my ability to act in an undisciplined fashion.  Today was different.  Harris Corporation (HRS) declined sharply and actually closed at $49.82 on the day down $(5.99) or (10.73)% on the day.  I do not see any news that would explain the drop in the stock price.  I am sure there is something somewhere that somebody will point out but it doesn't really matter to me.  The point is that this stock in which I have previously sold a portion at a 30% appreciation target moved against me into a loss position.  These 103 shares that I held in this account were purchased about a year ago on 1/31/07 with a cost basis of $50.05

Hello Friends!  Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting my blog, Stock Picks Bob's Advice!  As always, please remember that I am an amateur investor, so please remember to consult with your professional investment advisers prior to making any investment decisions based on information on this website. In order to demonstrate what a total amateur investor I really am, and I am NOT kidding, I probably should explain to you the series of really amateur mistakes I made today with my Universal Electronics Stock (UEIC).  I am really getting ready to stick to my rules and stop all the short-term trades.  While the rest of the market moved higher today, my own account dipped.Earlier today, I saw that my UEIC stock was taking a nosedive for no particular reason.   Rule #1.  Don't try to figure out the reason.  Just respond to market action.I didn't.I tried. And I lost.I figured since the drop was outrageous and the stock was gorgeous, I was s

Hello Friends!  Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting my blog, Stock Picks Bob's Advice!  As always, please remember that I am an amateur investor, so please remember to consult with your professional investment advisers prior to making any investment decisions based on information on this website.A few moments ago I sold my remaining 100 shares in FMC Technologies (FTI) at $62.90/share.  These shares were purchased 1/3/08 at $63.52/share.  They were part of a larger lot which was purchased and sold the same day.  I left 100 shares as I was happy with the stock and it met my criteria.  I do believe that I shall be implementing this strategy of selling most of a "trade" in my one position arbitrary 'trade' strategy, and leaving behind enough for a regular position if it is successful.  I haven't blogged much about this as this whole process is evolving.  Anyhow, since I had sold the stock 'once' for a gain,
