  • Railways to introduce alluminium coaches for goods trains
BANGALORE: Railways has decided to introduce alluminium coaches for goods trains as they have much better carrying capacity and bring down operational costs by 40 per cent, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad said on Monday. Prasad said alluminium coaches would bring down the fuel bill as compared to the steel ones currently being used for goods trains. The Minister said the Railway budget, to be presented in Parliament on February 26, would be a "common man's budget". "We will give special attention to the needs of students, farmers and workers", Prasad said after flagging off extension of Ajmer-Bangalore-Ajmer Express up to Mysore, and inaugurating a model station at Yeshwantpur here. He said Railways would also focus more on increasing the number of general coaches and comfort level of passengers using them. - Economic Times

  • Is there an average $/ft cost for monorail trains?
I'm doing a project for for a friend and I was wondering if there is an average $/ft cost to putting in a small monorail system ( i.e. 3 cars, short run) and can they handle elevation, such as a ski lift type thing. I'm just looking for round numbers as this is a theoretical business excercise.

  • Trains, Perth and Fremantle.
Road Trip Day 24: 15th June 2007The one thing I wanted to do whilst visiting Perth was spend a day on my own, riding the train to visit the Perth CBD and Fremantle. Today was that day. When I head out on my own I don't really do much except walk and observe. I enjoy walking and I like to get out and see how places have changed from when I was there last.My morning started with a fairly long walk to the train station. On the way I passed through , what I imagine, is one of the largest Westfield Shopping Malls in the country. It's nearly big enough to have its own postcode. The Westfield was built before I left Perth. Apart from looking a little more lived in, it looked pretty much the same. Maybe a different shop here and there but that's about all.I was a little worried that the trains ticketing system might be all different and I'd have to spend some time relearning it, however the basic system was unchanged. Put your money in a machine on the platform to buy your ticket. There is
