  • Obesity and hypertension can often trigger dangerous form of diabetes
Starting one’s life anew next Monday – it is one of those dreams that everyone seemed to have at least once. It is just fine if you can make a fresh start of your own free will. However, it is a different story if you are forced to adjust yourself to a new life because of a new set of circumstances, which are totally beyond your control. Diabetes is one of those unfortunate circumstances which brought about drastic changes for 150 million people around the world. Even worse, the number of sufferers is expected to grow year in and year out. There are several signs and symptoms associated with diabetes. Are you visiting the bathroom much more lately? Does it feel like you cannot get enough water and you are drinking much more than usual? Have you been losing weight without trying? Are you feeling tired and run down on a regular basis? In addition, you seem to be feeling numbness or tingling in your extremities, and your skin is dry and itchy far too often. Any of the above s
  • Strong Evidence Points to Earth’s Proximity to Sun as Ice Age Trigger
Analysis of Antarctic ice cores led by Kenji Kawamura, a visiting scientist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, shows that the last four great ice age cycles began when Earth’s distance from the sun during its annual orbit became great enough to prevent summertime melts of glacial ice. The absence of those melts allowed buildups of the ice over periods of time that would become characterized as glacial periods. Results of the study appear in the Aug. 23 edition of the journal Nature.Jeff Severinghaus, a Scripps geoscientist and co-author of the paper, said the finding validates a theory formalized in the 1940s but first postulated in the 19th Century. The work also helps clarify the role of carbon dioxide in global warming and cooling episodes past and present, he said. “This is a significant finding because people have been asking for 100 years the question of why are there ice ages,” Severinghaus said.A premise advanced in the 1940s known as the Milankovitch th

  • Credit crunch is expected to trigger halving of growth and squeeze on City revenue
Consumers, investment and the housing market will suffer next year as turmoil in the financial markets could cut economic growth by almost half, an economic forecasting group says today. The report by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) comes as many analysts forecast that the Bank of England could cut interest rates as early as November. In its latest outlook for Britain, the CEBR has revised its prediction for growth next year down to 1.4%. The economy is currently growing at 2.7% a year."What we see for the next two years is a bit of a double whammy hit on economic growth," says Jonathan Said, senior economist at the CEBR, "first from the financial markets in 2008 and then from the Asians taking the foot off the gas in 2009."The report says that the drying up of interbank lending is likely to affect economic growth in a number of ways. Consumer spending will be hit as banks clamp down on lending to people with poor credit history. This will also affect the housing ma
  • Sub-prime crisis may trigger global meltdown
Moody’s chief economist said if there are more hedge fund blowups like at Bear Stearns, the effects on global financial markets will be severe. He said economic modelling showed that sub-prime mortgage delinquencies would peak in mid-2008 and remain close to the peak well in to 2009. The reason I keep banging on this theme is because it affects us all. Credit is already getting harder to obtain. Interest rates will continue rising. One of the driving forces in the US economy has been consumer money coming from home equity lines of credit, a source that has now dried up. That means stores will have declines in sales which in turn means job reductions. Fred at Home Depot gets laid off even though he might not even know what subprime mortgages are, making him an innocent victim of a seemingly arcane financial implosion. Bizarrely, some leftists get almost happy about this kind of thing. Such a crisis of capitalism will surely signal the collapse of the system, they hope. Maybe. But
  • 10 Common Ways to Trigger an Anxiety Attack
There are many things we can do to work on our anxiety. The first is recognizing what it is that we do to ourselves that cause anxiety attacks. Sometimes we feel like they are completely out of the blue, but I bet if you thought about all of them long enough and figured out what you were doing before it happened, what you ate, who you were around, what you were thinking, etc. you would eventually figure out what your "triggers" are. Here are some of most common things we do to ourselves that can trigger attacks (in no particular order):Play the What if Game and other negative self talk- Setting Ourselves up for FailurePoor Self Esteem- thinking we're not worthy enough to be around others and be liked for who we arePut too much pressure on ourselves to be "perfect" for others or not to have an attackFocus on ourselves more than those around usEat poorly, drink a lot of caffeineDo not exercise and or meditate regularlyFull Exposure to our phobias instead of baby stepsDo not get enough r
