Jeez, guys, don't rush into things: Universal are going to launch a limited trial of DRM-free downloads:Universal said: "The experiment will run from August to January and analyze such factors as consumer demand, price sensitivity and piracy in regards to the availability of open MP3s."Retailers including Google, Wal-Mart, and Amazon.com, will participate in the DRM-free trial, Universal said. But participants do not include Apple iTunes online music store, the third largest music retailer in the US.Yes, yes, Universal, we get it - you're showing Apple that you don't need them. Although one might argue about the value of this "experiment" if you exclude the place where people actually buy their music from.

Now when ever you serch you get news, videos, images, and maps to the search results you used to get. Google is trying to merge its specialized search pages—like Google News into one giant search function. If you're looking for news stories or images, you'll do better going to Google News and Google Images, respectively but now you can just visit Google.Personally,i would visit Google News to find a story, I can't see why I'd ever go over to the universal page to hunt up a news story. But I suspect Google isn't aiming at a relatively sophisticated searcher such as me. Rather, it's looking to appeal to more casual users.
The BBC web 2.0 Iplayer only runs on Windows XP, and calls have come from the open source community and just about everyone else to make it so that it works on every operating system from Linux to Vista to Apple. The BBC is coming back and saying that an Apple version and a Vista version is in the works. Linux might just have to wait a bit because the BBC is making their decisions on builds based on the market share of each one of the operating systems.
But the BBC has said it does intend to allow access to its content from computers with other operating systems. Speaking at the launch of the service, director of Future Media and Technology at the BBC Ashley Highfield said: “I am fundamentally committed to universality, to getting the BBC iPlayer to everyone in the UK who pays their licence fee.” Source: BBC

A quick point about this as I've noticed a few rumblings on various other blogs. There is a notion that Google's universal search feature, where Google lists a hodge podge of relevant results from all off their channels in the search results pages (SERPs), will replace vertical search engines (VSEs).
You have to remember, at the end of the day, Google currently provides indexes and provides results on documents.
