The tables are turning...there's a group of anti-Scientologists out there. Their latest exploit has been to send envelopes with white powder to 10 Scientology Centres in Calif.Even though Scientology unlocks the secrets to the universe, they still had to call in the regular old police to see what was in the envelopes. Turned out to be a bit of constarch.Shocking indeed.I love that. Pic source.
Some of the planets can be seen very well in January, but two of them are in interesting position right now. Venus and Jupiter are located close to each other (from our viewpoint on Earth) and can be observed around one hour before the sunrise in northern hemisphere.

Venus Clothing & SwimwearSure, we wax poetic about $1000 handbags and $400 shoes, but Stiletto Jungle girls love finding fab fashions at reasonable prices just as much as the next person. I'm always on the lookout for a new source of stylish, yet affordable, clothes. But, when well-known swimwear purveyor Venus approached me with news of their newest line of clothing, I was actually kind of perplexed. I've known about Venus swimsuits for a while, but never knew they did clothes as well. I couldn't help but wonder, what kind of clothing could a company known for swimwear really turn out? Perhaps sensing my disbelief, the people behind Venus's newest line of clothing offered to let our Stiletto Jungle Girl Talk panel give their goods a test drive. Armed with nothing more than the address for the Venus online store, the Girl Talk panel set out to shop, select, and try out Venus clothing. The results?Babydoll Print Top$29.00 (was $39-- save 26%!)Available at: venus.com"I feel that the

European Space Agency’s Venus Express mission has proved that there is lightning in Venus. According to the measurement results, there might be lightning in Venus more often than in our planet. So far we have detected lightning only in three planets, Earth, Jupiter and Saturn. In all these three the lightning is associated with water [...]

One of the questions a man hates to hear is "What are you thinking?" Because when he looks like he's lost in thought, he'll say "Nothing." And he means it. Too many men with no stake in lying about it have said that it's true, men can often just not think about anything! Now, since I have a smaller brain with more active surface area and no Y chromosomes, I find that amazing. Women are thinking several things at once, all the time. And usually doing several things at once. But men are different, and when they do think, they think about everything in a different manner from women. Which goes a long way toward explaining why communication between the sexes is so difficult. Girlspeak to English Dictionary. Guys, memorize this one, so you can figure out what she means. If you care. A more in-depth analysis of what women say and what they mean. (via Look at This) What men and women really want in a mate. What men are really thinking
CD Review Artist: The White Fires of VenusTitle: Skin and LightStyle: Atmospheric Folk RockWebsite: http://www.houseofsparks.comMySpace: http://www.myspace.com/thewhitefiresofvenusLabel: Corporate Nightmare RecordsRating: 8.75 out of 10By Senior Staff Writer C.W. Ross The man behind The White Fires of Venus is Jeff Sparks. You might remember him for his days with the S. California band Primitive Radio Gods that he was a part of until he left the group in 2001. Now Jeff wears several different hats playing under the names, Duplex, The Limes, Sparkles in the Milk and The White Fires of Venus. When asked why he doesn't use his own name he answered, "I don't like putting things out under my own name, because it feels weird to me and besides, there's already another Jeff Sparks who's an R&B saxophone player from Atlanta and has put out a CD under that name, and who needs that kind of confusion?" Jeff list many musical influenc
What happens when you combine the following ingredients?• a stellium of Mars, Saturn, and Pluto in Libra• a Capricorn Sun• a Moon-Neptune square• Venus retrograde in Aquarius square Jupiter in ScorpioFor one, you can get a charismatic and handsome rock singer of smoldering intensity who wears tight, tight jeans, makes girls go “Ooooohh!” and writes great, rough, beautiful songs with flip-side outlaw topics like male impotence (the sweetly tender song, “Soft”), transvestites (the passionate, over-the-top, knock-out “Trani”), and assorted cultural renegades. The particular rock singer with these planetary signatures is Caleb Followill (on the right in the picture) of the band Kings of Leon, who I saw perform last Friday night at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. For all their subverting of standard rock song topics, Kings of Leon put on a rollicking good show, with the crowd on its feet and dancing for much of the band's performance. This concert, at the opening of the
We all make jokes about how awful marriage is, and there’s a lot of reason to! Anytime you put two people together, there’s going to be clashes of one sort or another... or all kinds. But we keep doing it! Even though the rate of legal marriage is going down, people still seek a committed cohabitating partnership. Some folks do it over and over again, hoping to get it right this time. Why? Because when all is said and done, having someone to talk to, to sleep with, and to grow old with beats doing it all by yourself. How Men Talk to their Wives. (via Bits and Pieces) Were you checking her out? A marriage made in ... World of Warcraft? You would think that a role-reversal would give men and women some insights into each other’s struggles, but human nature sometimes trumps intelligence or empathy. CD Review: Artist: Mean VenusTitle: PCPWebsite: http://www.meanvenus.comStyle: Heavy MetalBy Staff Writer Michael Dittman My youth was spent devouring all sorts of music - in a small town, no one tells you that you can't listen to Fugazi, Duran Duran, DRI, and Poison, and I spent more than my share of time in the bedroom playing the bass parts of "Talk Dirty to Me" and "Pour Some Sugar On Me" - heavy metal being a strong advocate of the imperative case - but today few listeners have that same benefit. Let's be honest. Heavy Metal is a hard sell. The musical ghetto it inhabits means that listeners are less likely to stumble upon heavy metal in mainstream magazines or radio. Today, unless a band is playing ironic metal (ala The Darkness), or in one of the subsets of metal (death metal, or thrash) it's hard to get any attention at all. That's the position in which New Jersey based Mean Venus finds themselves with th
Surely, I don’t watch a whole lot of tennis unless I’m channel surfing and the hote Maria Sharapova is playing, but I seem to remember that Venus Williams was a major tennis babe winner a few years back. What’s happened to her? I don’t know. Maybe she’s too busy doing bikini photoshoots like these. She looks pretty hot in that orange bikini but I think she has put on some weight.
Venus Williams (born June 17, 1980 in Lynwood, California) is an American professional tennis player. As of July 2007, she is the reigning Wimbledon ladies’ singles champion.

Presented for your perusal, another chapter in the continuing Mars and Venus series. This one was rushed into production to equalize the universe after the last post, Mars and Venus: Man Things. After all, I am an equal-opportunity offender. We do have the ability to laugh at ourselves!(2007 update) I almost scrapped this post, since I got called out at Neatorama yesterday for being sexist... for pointing out something did not reinforce a stereotype of women! I've spent decades defying stereotypes (especially the one that says women are too sensitive), and here I am reprinting jokes that some may think perpetuate such myths. But then, just about all my readers know that, and know that these jokes are taking things to the ridiculous extreme. Besides, I made fun of male stereotypes last week, so I'm evening things out a bit here. What women say and what they MEAN ARE YOU WILLING TO: This means you better do it. FINE: This is the word women use to end an argument when they
Gender differences have always fascinated me. I've collected a lot of funnies about the subject, so here's another chapter in a recurring series. Now, before you read the rest of this, remember I LOVE men. I would even like to have one. Soon as I collect enough jokes on women, I will post the companion piece to this one (submissions welcome). So take these as they are intended, just plain fun. IF MEN RULED THE WORLD Cops would be broadcast live, and you could phone in advice to the pursuing Cops. Or to the crooks. The only show opposite Monday Night Football would be Monday Night Football from a Different Camera Angle. It would be perfectly legal to steal a sports car, as long as you returned it the following day with a full tank of gas. Every man would get four real Get Out of Jail Free cards per year. When a cop gave you a ticket, every smart-aleck answer you responded with would actually reduce your fine. As in: Cop: "You know how fast you were goi
Venus ascending, Venus oh Venus. I’m a fan. Venus rocked the tennis world again today by winning Wimbledon for the 4th time. She came in seeded 23 but blazed a path through the higher seeds. Her serve serrated Sharapova. The Venus game is made for grass.
I knew full well that the women’s final was this morning at 8:00 local time. I got up much earlier than that, confirmed the start time by checking the sports listings in the paper and then preceded to slowly amble through a few chores (largely consisting of putting up clean clothes that had been sitting sitting sitting over the past few days) and then piddled around, and piddled around some more and then reading some blogs and thinking about posting again after a week away from the blog and then I looked up at the clock and it was freaking 10:00 and I ran down to the TV only to find that Venus had already won. I’m a moron. At 7:45 I was making a note to watch the 8:00 finals. By 8:00 I had already fo
I think I'm in the right genus, but haven't keyed it to species yet. Those curved anthers should make it relatively easy to distinguish from its kin. UPDATE: Thanks to Rurality for the dope slap and correct ID: American Bellflower.I had to shoot with the lens at 200mm because these were blooming up a steep shale bank at the end of the valley. The dynamic range from lightest to darkest was too great for the medium to capture so the highlights are blown; would have been a good time to take RAW and use Photomatix to balance light against shadow. But I was too lazy to think through this.I love bringing images back and posting them while they are still "warm" from the field, though it's not quite as much fun having to upload blog-size and enlarged versions to Photobucket as it would be if I had a permanent place for them. Maybe this will happen soon. Sigh.Larger images is here.
Two great new posts: Lynn Hayes on JFK's health and Elsa on Pluto in Capricorn.1. Here’s a beautiful picture (from NASA) showing a May 19 conjunction of Venus and the Moon in Cancer. They are about a degree apart.2. Another weird Saturn-Neptune opposition dichotomy: A “natural history” museum that combines paleontology and creationism. According to the Creation Museum, set to open on May 28, there were brontosauri munching tree branches in the Garden of Eden.3. A couple of years ago, I saw astrologer Susan Miller on Good Morning, America (which was very cool!). Ms. Miller did a quick Sun sign reading for the three morning show co-anchors—two of whom were Capricorns--pointing out that Capricorns are good at achieving because they are willing to get up at 3:30 or 4:00 in the morning to get to the studio and, basically, do the heavy lifting required to become a national TV personality.Jordin Sparks, this year's American Idol winner, has five planets in Capricorn (including her S
