By Susan Cornwell WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An independent investigation into post-election violence in Kenya could help prevent more bloodshed, the U.S. State Department's top diplomat for Africa said on Thursday. Assistant Secretary of State Jendayi Frazer said Washington was examining how to treat those who incited the ethnic violence that has convulsed Kenya since President Mwai Kibaki's disputed re-election in December. "Those options should include an impartial and independent investigation to ascertain individual responsibility, and future accountability to ensure impunity does not prevail," she said in testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations African Affairs Subcommittee. Frazer did not suggest in her prepared remarks who might conduct such a probe, but added, "A strong message of accountability, delivered now, will help to deter additional violence." Earlier in Nairobi, officials said the United States had barred 10 Kenyans suspected of being behind

By Nick Tattersall NAIROBI (Reuters) - Former U.N. chief Kofi Annan launched formal mediation efforts on Tuesday to end the post-election crisis in Kenya, where the killing of an opposition legislator stoked bloody protests. About a dozen people were killed in the east African country on Tuesday, bringing the toll to more than 850 since President Mwai Kibaki's disputed Dec. 27 election triggered turmoil that has taken on an ethnic momentum of its own. Annan, bringing together Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga, said he hoped the immediate political issues could be resolved within four weeks and the broader issues underlying the crisis within a year. Odinga says the vote was rigged. "To the leaders gathered here today I say that the people want you to take charge of the situation and do whatever possible to halt the downward spiral that is threatening this beautiful and prosperous country," Annan said. South Africa said it would be disastrous for the continent
By David Lewis NAIVASHA, Kenya (Reuters) - Kenyan military helicopters swooped to break up machete-wielding mobs on Tuesday as the killing of an opposition legislator stoked bloody protests across the east African country. About a dozen people were killed on Tuesday, bringing the toll to more than 850 since President Mwai Kibaki's disputed Dec. 27 election triggered violence that has now taken on an ethnic momentum of its own. Post-election protests have degenerated into cycles of killing between tribes who have never reconciled divisions over land, wealth and power left by British colonial rule and exacerbated by politicians in 44 years of independence. The crisis has cost Kenya its reputation as a bastion of peace in a turbulent region, and dented its previously flourishing economy, east Africa's largest. Kibaki appealed for peace and promised a swift investigation into the "heinous" murder of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator Melitus Were, who was shot d

Kenya's game parks usually teem with camera-toting tourists at this time of year. Now they are all but empty after images of deadly clashes that rocked the country were beamed around the world.Operators say pictures of machete-wielding youths battling riot police and of a torched church that evoked nightmares of the Rwandan genocide, have sent some tourists packing and others delaying trips or scrapping planned visits outright.A minority have bravely chosen to see out their holidays."We have never felt like we were in danger," said Debbie Shillito, a Canadian relaxing by the pool of a lodge in the Samburu Game Reserve, the only tourist in sight. Rehabilitation work is going on in full swing in violence-hit Kandhamal District of Orissa, State Government officials said today. Officials said the steps are being taken to ensure normalcy in the areas hit by violence over Christmas celebrations. State Home Secretary Tarun Kant Mishra said that the administration is engaged in exercises to build confidence among the people scared following the violence. "The nodal officers are moving in different areas of the district on motorcycles and trying to build up the confidence," said Mishra. Two persons were killed and over a dozen churches and three temples were damaged in clashes between Hindus and Christians in the tribal areas of Kandhamal District after violence erupted on December 24, 2007. y Peg Mackey LONDON (Reuters) - Oil climbed towards $97 a barrel on Wednesday as renewed violence in oil exporter Nigeria and expectations of further declines in U.S. crude stocks revived worries of tightening supplies. Suspected militant attacks on Tuesday in Nigeria's oil city Port Harcourt have heightened concern over the potential for further disruptions in shipments from the world's eight largest oil exporter. U.S. crude gained 63 cents to $96.61 a barrel by 1032 GMT, while London Brent crude rose $1.11 to $94.96. "With the military and the militant warlords engaged in a violent tit-for-tat, the risk for oil disruptions in Nigeria remains higher than in the past few months," said Olivier Jakob of Petromatrix. Frequent attacks by militant groups since February 2006 have driven thousands of foreign oil workers from the oil-rich Niger Delta and cut oil exports by about 20 percent. Investors were also expecting inventories of crude in top consumer the United States
Religion: A New direction and a brighter future in 2008:

Nassau, Bahamas:
Finally 2007 has past! And yes, we have all successfully brought in the New Year. The churches were filled and the Christians were out in full force making New Year's resolutions and spreading the holiday joy.
However despite all of the holiday cheer, many of us have found it easy to sum up all of this year's events and to realize that despite the many good things that might have happened, there were many areas in which we may have fallen short. But as several local pastors have put it, the New Year is definitely not about our inadequacies.
"This is a brand new year," says Pastor Trent Davis of Golden Gates Assembly. "It's a great time to reflect but not on the bad, but rather on the future and on God. And in this New Year we at Golden Gates Assembly see a manifestation of God's power and presence in the church and its family. So we are all expecting God to

Opposition is building up against violence perpetrated by various militant groups in the State. The tribals, for whose cause the violence is ostensibly taking place, feel that the incidents only results in alienating them from the rest of the country, and realise that violence is not helping in furthering their cause. The bomb blasts that occur in Railway trains, they feel, only distance them from the rest of the country and not helping them to get the desired Scheduled Tribe status. The blast on the train in Dibrugarh on December 12 only earned them a bad name. It is suspected that the powerful blast on the Dibrugarh-Guwahati-Delhi Rajdhani Express in which five people were killed and nine others injured was the handiwork of the All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA). Md. Islam, a taxi driver, said: "Whichever party has done it, has done a very wrong thing. These things would not benefit the nation. It would be a loss for all of us." Phanenmo Rengma

Hackers have already tampered with the code of Rockstar's Manhunt 2 to reinstate the violent scenes and images thought to have been removed from the game. The PSP version of the controversial title has been exploited less than 24 hours since the game was officially released in North America. The PlayStation 2 version of the game had already been distributed across the internet via torrent sites, a move that Rockstar has blamed on Sony Computer Entertainment. The game has been censored in the US in order for it to receive an M rating – and therefore a release – rather than the original AO rating it was given by the ESRB.The illegal exploit of the original PSP code indicates that the scenes that were cut in order to secure an M rating were not removed from the full game, rather disabled, much like the Hot Coffee mini-games in Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.Source: Games IndustryMore PSP articles:Official PlayStation Magazine Returns to U.S.God of War PSP Demo Finally On the Wa

This paves the way towards a power-sharing deal between the two and Bhutto is expected to return to Pakistan from self imposed exile on 18 October and stand in the forthcoming parliamentary elections scheduled to be held before 15 January. Reports have said that the power sharing deal was even endorsed by the United States and mediated with the help of a British diplomat, with both the US an Britain keen to see political stability return to Pakistan ending the political upheaval that has engulfed the country.“This is a sad occasion that the national political leadership would strike a deal for its own political benefit and not for the nation and all political solutions would be imposed on us from abroad,” commented the acting president of opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Navaz (PML-N), Javed Hashmi.A report in the Pakistani newspaper Daily Times on Fri
God made Adam, then he made Eve. He made Adam smart and strong and he made Eve his obedient helper. The roles are very clearly defined by the Bible. The man has to hunt and has to protect the family. A woman has to take care of the children and his husband as well as keep the house clean. A women gets disciplined by her husband. Maybe she was a bitch, maybe she was a slut, maybe she did not fulfill her duties. It’s not our business to know. The husband knows and that should be good enough for us. It’s between him and her. A good woman will always submit to the will of her husband no matter what. The notion of the so called “domestic violence” or “domestic abuse” should not even come up, because in the majority of “abuse cases” we should trust the husband to use his good judgement to despense praise as well as punishment. It is not our right to get involved. The role of a woman in our society is outlined as follows: Be obedient, cheerful,
