The Wayne Fontes Experience
The Wayne Fontes Experience is a weblog featuring my uninformed, snarky, and completely biased blathering on Detroit sports. You may see the occasional pop culture rant and some lame attempts at humor, but mostly sports. I do ask readers to remember one thing..."In Detroit, you're with us, or we hate you."

Things to do, places to go...
2008-01-23 15:54:00
I'm heading out to take care of a few things today, so no posts till mid afternoon, at the earliest. I'm still trying to figure out what to write about, so your guess is as good as mine as to what will be going up.As Chris Webber would like to say to the Pistons, I shall return!Later folks...PS: I didn't realize it till this morning, but TWFE passed a small milestone Tuesday. Posts number 1000 and 1001 hit the interwebs yesterday. I think it's quite fitting that #1000 was my ripfest on TWFE's favorite punching bag, Rob Parker... ...
10 questions: Scot Loeffler
2008-01-22 22:02:00
Yesterday, the Lions announced the hiring of ex-Michigan Wolverines QB coach Scot Loeffler to coach QB's in Detroit. Leoffler is known as a fast rising young coach, as mentioned in Larry Lage's AP article...Loeffler spent six years as an assistant at Michigan, working with Chad Henne as he threw for a school-record-tying 25 touchdowns as a freshman in 2004. He also coached John Navarre, who was named to the All-Big Ten team in 2003, when the Wolverines won the conference championship.Loeffler's Michigan bio also hypes the fact that he coached several NFL QB's, including Tom Brady. After graduating, Loeffler was a graduate assistant coach (1998-99) for the Wolverines. He worked daily with the offensive staff and handled the scout team offense during practice sessions. During his tenure, Loeffler helped coach future NFL quarterbacks Brian Griese (Chicago Bears), Scott Driesbach and two-time Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady (New England Patriots).Despite his shining reputation with the Wolverines, ...

The worst columnist in America has the cure to what ails the Pistons...Chris Webber?
2008-01-22 20:34:00
As I sat down at my balky PC this morning (my wireless keyboard hates me), I had an email from a friend of TWFE alerting me to the latest Rob Parker column. That person was wondering "What was he thinking?"Honestly, I have the same thought after EVERY Parker column. But his missive in today's News is Parker at his worst.Today, the functionally retarded one carries the torch for Chris Webber returning to the Pistons. If the Pistons can get a deal done -- and that would take clearing a roster spot -- Webber will be a welcome addition to the team, just as he was around this time a year ago. It's interesting to note that Parker has no quotes from the Pistons, or from Webber. Where's he getting this info? Is it all just conjecture? All we've heard is that the Pistons have said the roster is currently full. That's why I have to wonder if Joe Dumars himself gave this story to Parker to run out there as a trial balloon, to see how the idea of C-Webb returning flies with both the public and MSM at ...

Detroit fishwrap comment of the day
2008-01-22 18:32:00
With Mlive perking back up today, I was able to avoid that frightful place called the Free Press forums. Thank goodness for small favors. I needed to take a scalding hot shower in order to scrub off the slimy nastiness I picked up in yesterday's short trek through Freep Hell. The Killer was rightfully called out by his acolytes for an odd article titled, "Kowalski: Giants can thank Lions." My first thought was, "Huh? What the?" Actually, that was the general consensus of the loopy Mlive crew as well, whom let out a collective, "What?"A comment by Mliver measly actually had me laughing out loud.Killer,The Giants can thank the Lions? For what, sucking?I would like to thank Craig Nall (packer's 3rd string QB). In the last game of the season, he reminded me just how bad our Lions really are.Measly says what all Lions fans are thinking. Despite what the Lions, and apparently the Killer, would lead you to believe, the Lions aren't close to being at the same level of the Giants. For someone who ...

Above the Fold - Detroit weekend in review
2008-01-21 20:25:00
Michigan and Michigan State basketball - I heard a rumor that Michigan State and Michigan both played over the weekend. But it's an unconfirmed rumor, as their games were nowhere to be found on my TV. Head to Spartans Weblog and UMHoops for their views on the rumored games I don't even know were being played. Thanks a shitload, Big 10 Network...Terrelle Pryor - Did you hear the the nation's number 1 QB recruit was in A2 this weekend?! That the future of Wolverines football hangs in the balance?! If you believe the hype, Pryor's committing to Michigan will allow Rich Rodriguez's offense to hit the ground running. (Pun intended)MGoBlog has the latest on the Pryor visit, and opines what most fans are thinking...Pryor obviously wants maximum drama and is going to get it on Signing Day.The kid definitely knows what he's doing, and is milking his recruiting for all that it's worth. Miking it to the point of annoyance, actually...Helping with the mega hype, Angelique Chengelis at the News say ...

Detroit fishwrap comment of the day
2008-01-21 17:35:00
It's after 11AM, and Mlive has nothing new posted on their site. The latest dated stories are from Sunday. Taking MLK day off? Your guess is as good as mine...Thus, I venture over to the Freep, and wade into their forums. Their forums are populated with commenters whom are balancing on the razor's edge between sanity and insanity. It's like moving from junior high to high school. It's definitely a scary step up in crazy when compared to the more mild mannered Mliver's. Wish me well... If I'm not back in an hour, call the authorities.I struck gold at the Freep, as the lede in the sports section is the "WVU is racist" claims by Rich Rodriguez's assistant head coach, Calvin Magee, and supported by their agent, Mike Brown. As you might guess, the comments in the Freep story are mean spirited, knee-jerk, poorly researched, totally biased and borderline racist. But one comment stood out for it's brevity (The Freep commenters write freaking novels), humor, and for being dead on point. DAMN, DAMN, DAMN!
2008-01-21 05:00:00
Wonderful, just fucking wonderful. Exactly what the rest of our great nation didn't want or need to see. A Giants vs. Patriots Super Bowl. New York vs. Boston. Brady vs. Manning the younger. One annoyingly elitist fanbase vs. an even more annoyingly elitist fanbase.2 weeks of the media wanking off Brett Favre would be easier to tolerate that what we are about to endure. The moment Lawrence Tynes' field goal sailed over the crossbar, the east coast mainstream media mafia got a raging hard on. A John Holmes on Viagra sized hard on. We will now descend into a Hell on earth, 2 long, LONG, LONG weeks of New York and Boston overload. You just had to make the God damn kick, you son of a bitch! Thanks for nothing, Tynes... Fuck you, fuck me, fuck us. All of us fans in the flyover states, whom live in areas that the pompous bastards in the MSM believe don't matter. Fuck us hard, deep. and painfully.Just kill me now. ...
The Little Fella deigns to become the Wolverines' moral compass, still thinks it's 1978
2008-01-20 22:22:00
In today's Freep, Mitch Albom takes a break from working on his latest diabetes inducing best-seller for the Oprah crowd, to weigh in on the Michigan/WVU/Rich Rodriguez soap opera.(For what it's worth, the latest shot in the war of words between RichRod and WVU was fired by his assistant head coach, Calvin Magee, who accused his former employer of overt racism in their hiring process.)The Little Fella, full of righteous indignation, asks a rhetorical question about coaching buyouts. What bugs me is that Michigan never used to be involved in stuff like this. Since when did it start buying out coaches? First John Beilein with the basketball team. Now Rodriguez. To me, this is a form of legalized extortion. Some other school wants to hire your employee, you demand a payoff. It's ugly and has no place in a college environment. I wish Bill Martin, U-M's athletic director, had the nerve to say that. You know, the Little Fella might be correct in saying it "Doesn't belong in a college environme ...

Fun with referrals: You guys are just killing me!
2008-01-18 22:12:00
I've had a few referrals to TWFE today that made me smile.Someone found TWFE using the search term "Rob Parker Detroit retarded." Turns out I'm the first 2 hits under that search, and the 3rd is a Parker interview that refers to my insults, but pulled a Jerry Green, and didn't mention the blog.I'm guessing the functionally retarded one is appearing this week on the 4 letter's morning shitfest First Pizza, or Cold Take, whatever in the Hell they are calling the show that no one watches now. I always get a spike in Parker haters (Such as searching "Rob Parker ESPN" or "Parker 1st and Ten") whenever he turns up on ESPN matching a lack of wits with Skip Bayless. I'm just glad to know that I'm not alone...Someone from West Virgina found their way to TWFE with the following search... "federal agents investigating Rodriguez betting on pitt game" HA! That's absolutely hysterical! Turns out I'm 2nd on Google for those looking for info on RichRod's nefarious dealings with bookies. In fact, TWFE i ...

Above the Fold - Columnists say the darnedest things
2008-01-18 20:28:00
I'm contemplating having the tour of Detroit columnists becoming a Friday "Above the Fold" staple, delving into what wisdom they are dishing out. Why? One, it's a day many fishwrap columnists are active, so there's always some asinine opinion in print, and two, Rob Parker is not spewing his ill-thought out opinions on Fridays. It's a win-win, in my mind.On with our tour of the fishwraps! The Freep's Michael Rosenberg gives us his thoughts regarding yesterday's Lions presser, and he ridicules the entire exercise. The coaching staff tried to sell to the masses that the Lions have the players to compete. Rosenberg isn't buying any of it...And never mind that the Lions have a long, storied history of falling for players who play well in a few games at the end of their contracts -- think Cory Redding and Kalimba Edwards, who failed to earn their sizable paychecks after they signed new deals. And never mind the absurdity of bringing back all five players -- including four veterans -- from a me ...
Mlive comment of the day
2008-01-18 18:30:00
For today's COTD, I thought about using one of the many comments posted to Jim Carty's defense of his Thursday column calling for Rich Rodriguez to "apologize." As most any article/column/blog post/conversation regarding any combination of RichRod/Michigan/WVU, it quickly devolved into an us vs them pissing match. So I ventured over to Mlive's Lions section, and found that the Killer's acolytes are still active. His thoughts regarding the presser introducing Jim Colletto as offensive coordinator gave them plenty of fodder. As many Detroit fans tend to do, they quickly forget the regular season, and buy into the claptrap being spewed by the coaching staff. adguy2 is one fan drinking the Lions Kool-Aid...Do you think Kitna's endorsement of Martz shows where his alligence lies?Maybe Colletto will turn this heap into something...at least he's saying the right things. Let's hope he put word to action...a la Bobby Ross, "they'll find a quick bus ticket outta here..."Dude, EVERY Lions coach th ...
Marcus Thames will continue to wear the Olde English D
2008-01-18 02:15:00
Another signing was announced by the Tigers late this afternoon. Marcus Thames, he of the Ruthian power stroke and a knack for (I'm going to say it, though the sabers disagree such a thing exists) clutch home runs, agreed to a 1 year, $1.275 million contract with the Tigers. The winter of Jon Paul Morosi continues, as he has the contract details at the Freep...The Tigers agreed to a one-year, $1.275-million contract with outfielder/first baseman Marcus Thames on Thursday, leaving them with only two unsettled arbitration cases before Friday’s deadline to exchange figures. The deal also includes a $25,000 performance bonus if Thames makes 500 plate appearances.Thames, 30, has become a valuable part-time player for Detroit, with 44 home runs over the past two seasons. His penchant for clutch hits has made him popular among fans, as evidenced by the loud ovations he received during the Tigers’ winter caravan earlier this week.I'm thrilled to hear that the Tigers still have Thames in thei ...

Rich Rod speaks, but no one is listening
2008-01-17 23:00:00
The Toledo Blade (The Blade? WTF?) has an exclusive interview with Rich Rodriguez today, where the Michigan coach answers many of the accusations made by WVU.As for the article itself, RichRod denies all charges, as I hoped and expected. He claims WVU is spreading "lies." OK, so we now have his word against their anonymous sources. Expect it to continue playing out in the media. As for my "no one is listening" headline? I'll put it this way. We've all made up our minds on both sides of the Rich Rodriguez hire. Nothing is going to change the minds of WVU fans that Rodriguez is a nefarious, money grubbing back-stabber who has turned his back on his school, and his state. For that matter, nothing is going to change the minds of Michigan fans who think WVU and their fans are bring vindictive SOB's, who need to move on, rather than making mountains out of molehills, or a federal case out of so much confetti...I think that describes everyone fairly accurately. Both sides have dug in their ...
Above the Fold - 3 more years of gum time
2008-01-17 19:45:00
As I'm as burned out on the Rich Rodriguez story as you are (though I'm sure there will be much more to the story, and I'll have to touch on it again soon), let's delve into something less dramatic. The Tigers continued to spend money as if it grows on a money tree at Little Ceasers' headquarters, as they inked starting pitcher Nate Robertson to a 3 year extension worth $21 million. That's a ton of jack for a 5th starter, but it's considerably less than the going rate for an established big league pitcher with similar stats. Hard to believe that paying $21 million to a career under .500 pitcher is considered getting a "Hometown discount," but in today's game, that's the God's honest truth. In the Tigers blogosphere, the general consensus of the Robertson signing is positive, with the normal caveats (Health, consistency). Let's start our tour with the lone dissenter...Ian is not being a contrarian with his issues regarding Robertson's contract at Bless You Boys. He voiced the same opinio ...

Mlive comment of the day
2008-01-17 17:11:00
Mlive's Michigan mouthpiece, Jim Carty, pisses off the Wolverine faithful in a column that calls for Rich Rodriguez to apologize. Thing is, should he apologize to Michigan for dragging them into a $4 million dollar mudslinging fight, or to WVU for his extremely messy resignation, and trying to weasel out of his large contract buyout?Along with an apology, Carty is calling for Rodriguez to pay the $4 million buyout, so this can all go away. That stance set off a flamewar in the comment thread.I picked a comment by Liondownnow because it stood out from the rest. It was actually a measured response, admitting that the RichRod situation is overblown, yet it's true he hasn't exactly made smart decisions in the days after accepting the Wolverines gig.20% of UM fans are saying the right thing on here which is let's wait and see on RR. We need to let the situation run its course. If you support RR without knowing the facts you are as bad as Carty and the negative WVU posters who are stating sev ...
What was Rich Rodriguez shredding?
2008-01-17 04:14:00
Seriously, what was so important that Rich Rodriguez "allegedly" spent hours upon hours "allegedly" destroying? Inquiring minds in Michigan and West Virginia would really like to know. I'm going to take a guess from the point of view from each fanbase...Who knew such a lowly office appliance could cause so much grief? What WVU fans swear was in Coach Rod's shredder:The paper trail of his NCAA violationsCredit card receipts from PED vendorsCanceled checks from paying his playersCooked accounting booksCounterfeit 100 dollar billsForged term papersFake time cards for phantom jobsPhone records regarding calls to hookers and drug dealersBetting slipsAll records of his throwing the Pitt gameHis WVU diplomaThe broken hearts of WVU fansWhat Michigan fans believe Coach Rod was shredding:Cabbage for cole slawPotatoes for hash brownsJunk mailWest Virginia newspapersHis WVU contractHis $4 million dollar buyout agreementThe broken hearts of WVU fansWhat Rich Rodriguez actually shred:Enough non-vita ...

Nate Robertson is the highest paid 5th starter in history
2008-01-16 20:58:00
OK, I'll admit that the headline is a bit hyperbolic. Sure, Robertson is the 5th starter for the Tigers, but he's a middle of the rotation guy on many lesser teams.Actually, I'm quite happy with the Tigers locking up Mr. Gum Time at $21 million total for 3 years. Considering the high price and scarcity of major league quality starting pitching, the contract is a relative steal.Ricky Vaughn glasses and Goose Gossage facial hair? That's worth a few million in itself...A pitcher with Robertson's bulldog tendencies is a plus in any rotation. I know, I know, that sort of thing is wholly subjective, and it makes sabers cringe. But you can't deny that Robertson has made the most of his limited talent to become a very respectable starting pitcher on a pennant contending team.Even though it's mid January, you can pencil Robertson in for 12-14 wins, 125 K's, 200 innings, and an ERA in the mid 4's. Will Robertson win 20 games? No, but 15 wins is not out of line. what I've described is not lights o ...

Above the Fold - Rich Rodriguez: West Virginia's public enemy number 1
2008-01-16 19:15:00
There was plenty going on in the D Tuesday. The biggest news being the Republican and Democrat primaries. I'm not going there, as lefties, righties, and moderates are all welcome here at TWFE. I'm keeping this a politics free zone.On the sports side, the Pistons, led by Rip Hamilton's 39 points, beat the Raptors, the Red Wings lost badly to the Thrashers, for their 3rd consecutive loss, and the NFL released a list of teams the Lions will play, and lose to,in 2008.But it was all overshadowed by one story. The Rich Rodriguez "Filegate" scandal. If the entire state of West Virginia didn't want RichRod's head on a pike before yesterday, they sure as Hell do now. Once yet to be named sources at WVU let the West Virginia MSM know of Rodriguez's alleged shredder party, the confetti hit the fan.In response to WVU's allegations, Rodriguez's agent gave his client's version of events at Mlive.First, Brown said, Rodriguez did not maintain files on each individual player. Mlive comment of the day
2008-01-16 17:05:00
With the list of the Detroit Lions 2008 opponents being released, the Mlivers are off and speculating. Turns out there is little hope amongst the Lions diehards, as the '08 schedule is the 9th toughest in the NFL, with 7(!) games against 2007 playoff teams (Including 2 games against the Packers).I'm sure Rod Marinelli took one look at the upcoming schedule, and began to polish up his resume. As for our moronic GM, I'm thinking Millen took one look at all the playoff teams on next season's schedule, and then went back to his crayons and coloring book...There's a handful of Mlive loons who think the Lions will turn thing around. But the Kool-Aid drinkers and cornbread eaters are few and far between. One Mliver though, going by the name of A2Leo, has a brilliant idea...Quick get Fontes on the Bat phone!YES! A look back in Lions history with the Little Fella
2008-01-16 02:35:00
For some odd reason, the Freep is running old columns by the Little Fella of their website. I saw the following in my RSS reader...EDITOR'S NOTE: On Aug. 4, 1985, Mitch Albom made his debut in the pages of the Detroit Free Press. Since then, of course, he has gone onto nationwide fame as a sports columnist and worldwide fame as an author. This is an Albom column that was originally published on Nov. 15, 1988. This is the first in a series of columns written by Albom that we will run on freep.com.Uh...OK. But why? Am I missing something here? Is there an anniversary of some sort? Is the Freep trying to embarrass the Little Fella, by reminding everyone what a marvelous sports writer he was, once upon a time, long, long ago, in a Detroit that's far, far away?I became even more conflicted when I read the column. It was actually good! The Freep saw fit to reprint Albom's take on Wayne Fontes being named interim head coach of the Lions after Darryl "What does a guy have to do to get fired aro ...

Filegate!
2008-01-15 22:00:00
WVU isn't all that happy with Rich Rodriguez, and vice versa. Both feel wronged. Both are vindictive. WVU filed suit against their former coach before any payment was even due in regard to breaking his contract. Now it appears Rodriguez has burned all bridges, leaving scorched earth and small bits of paper behind him, giving a shredder a big workout in the process. From the Freep...If today's reports from West Virginia newspapers are true, with the first one emerging from the Charleston (W. Va.) Gazette, the hatred is about to reach a new level. The initial Gazette report, which cited an unnamed source, said that Rodriguez “destroyed all or most of the paperwork filed relating to every player on the Mountaineer roster and virtually all of the activities conducted by the programs over the past seven years.”Rodriguez and Michigan officials were unavailable for comment this morning. At first blush, the old adage came to mind, "Where there's smoke, there's fire." In fact, I'm about to ke ...
Above the Fold - Enough of the "Will he or won't he?" speculation
2008-01-15 20:15:00
The 2 huge blogosphere stories today are in regard two subjects I couldn't care less about, the Congressional Mitchell Report hearings, and Steve Jobs' Macworld keynote. Both are overrated, with plenty of flash and little to no substance. Considering our congress is all show, and no go, doing little to stem the PED tide, and most computer users don't have a need to drop 2 grand for what is essentially a slick operating system running on standard PC hardware, their importance in the big scheme of things seem more than a tad overblown.Nothing will change because Congress puts on a steroid dog and pony show, and Apple will always be a niche player in everything but MP3 players. So what's the big damn deal?Detroit has it's own share of overblown stories. The most overblown being the unhealthy, almost obscene, fascination over high school football recruit Terrelle Pryor. Michigan or tOSU? What school's hat/sweatshirt is he wearing today? Is he the next coming of Vick and Young combined? Mich ...

Today's comment comes from Mlive's Wolverines section, left in response to an article about Ryan Mallet's transfer to Arkansas. Some loon named byebyecarr went off on a bile fueled diatribe against the former Wolverine QB in waiting...Who care about this loser? I'm tired of hearing about him. He's not that great of a QB... His type of style will die soon. More and more Spread type QB will take over college football. More and more will evolve in to a super player like Pryor, Young, Vick and other great running/throwing QB. They will take over the NFL soon enough. Just like they are taking over the college world as we speak. When was the last time a drop back passer won a NC? only USC and they are loaded everywhere on the football field. Screw Mallett lets move on and don't write about this loser anymore. As for Ryan Mallett.. You will be a choke artist!Dude, it's only a game. A game played by 18-22 year old kids. Detroit Pistons: The Pistons finished off a rough, 4 games in 5 days, swing through Texas, then to parts east, ending in an ugly loss in New York Sunday night.Detroit Bad Boys puts into words what certain sports talk radio hosts couldn't, that it was just "one of those games."Maybe the team was caught looking past the Knicks, or maybe the dreaded “complacency” bug reared it’s ugly head. Or maybe, and this is the most likely scenario, the team simply entered the game on fumes and ran out of gas early. It was their fourth game in five nights, and for whatever it’s worthy their arrival to NYC on Saturday night/Sunday morning was pushed back when the Bobcats game went into overtime. If the rest of us mortals had to keep the insane travel schedules of NBA teams, we'd be running on fumes after 1 game, let alone 4. All in all, I'll take a 2-2 Pistons road trip that includes games against the Mavericks and Spurs. The Pistons beat the Bobcats in OT Saturday night, and the silliest thing ...

Why Detroit sports talk radio blows: Reason #474
2008-01-14 19:35:00
WXYT has spend the past half hour talking Pistons. Mid-day hosts Scott Anderson and Doug Karsh are talking Pistons half assed, with only one host (Karsh) making sense, but at least they're talking Pistons. What got me going was the clueless Anderson crucifying the Pistons for their admittedly ugly, but ultimately inconsequential, loss to the Knicks Sunday night. Even worse, most callers are agreeing with his know-nothing ass. The discussion is turning into the lame, beat to death, "Pistons have no heart" argument.Couple of things...First off, I HATE the "Have no heart" argument. I DESPISE IT! It's totally subjective, not based on any facts, especially when coming from fans who only see the team from a distance on TV. How do you measure heart? How can a team that beats the Celtics on the road, the first team to have done so this season, have no heart? It's totally nonsensical claim, arbitrarily measuring the unmeasurable. The Pistons did beat the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night, whi ...

The Killer has a article citing the Lions positional (lack of) strengths and (several) needs that has his Mlive acolytes all in a tizzy. The comment thread is full of crazy and outlandish scenarios (Trade Roy Williams for a 1st and 3rd round picks, trade Shaun Rogers and a pick for //name any pro bowl player//, sign several free agents, you know the drill) that would never happen, as most of the proposed moves depend on the rest of the NFL being as moronic as Millen.Nice to think about, but just a dream....samebadlions doesn't bother with those fantastical scenarios, and instead posts a comment dripping with sarcasm...Wow, that's a long list of needs...but what do you expect after screwing up so many drafts? It's good to see the Lions are set at K/P/WR. It only took Millen seven years to solidify the three most important units of a team.I have to admit, that snide comment made me laugh. But it's also factually wrong. Kicker Jason Hanson was already in Detroit when Millen arrived. So he ...
It's Rich Rodriguez's fault!
2008-01-14 03:25:00
Fans of WVU have been hollerin' up a storm since Rich Rodriguez left, for a better job, mind you, at the University of Michigan. Though he left the school a much better place, WVU fans have felt the need to belittle his accomplishments. Some of the anger was warranted, I'll give them that. It's never a smooth transition when any coach leaves a program. It's going to be messy. At this point, with both schools having moved on with their new head coaches, don't ya'll think enough is enough? We understood your anger, but it's become rote and over the top...It's cold in Morgantown today! "It's Rich Rodriguez's fault!"The price on double wides has gone up! "It's Rich Rodriguez's fault!"The moonshine is weak! "It's Rich Rodriguez's fault!"Here come the revenuers! As I'm in a NFL mood, (I mean, who isn't? It's the best football weekend of the year!) and it's probably the last time I'll have reason to being the SOB's up till we get closer to the draft, or the incommunicado, long in-hiding, Matt Millen speaks, I'm going to touch on the Lions.I've spent the past day and a half watching the NFL conference semi-finals. It's been a nice weekend of chilling out, and enjoying, for the most part, well played football by 8 good to great teams. (You make it this far into the playoffs, even in today's parity filled NFL, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and call all the conference semi-finalists good. Obviously the Patriots are on another level altogether...)I realized something as the Giants' Armani Toomer was running down the sidelines for a touchdown against the Cowboys at Texas Stadium. It's been 16 years since we've seen the Lions play in such an important game. 16 years?! That's essentially an entire generation. Hell, might as well be 116 years! ...
Questions for Millen? I got your questions right here
2008-01-12 03:37:00
In his Freep blog, WDFN's Jamie Sameulson reveals "What I would say to Lions president Matt Millen."If I had a sit down with Millen, I’d probably ask him why his coaching and personnel decisions always seem to be a departure from his overriding philosophy of football. He always struck me as a mean and potatoes football man as a player, yet has been obsessed with the offensive coach or player as a front office man. I’d also ask him about accountability and why a guy like Mike Martz is gone but guys like Joe Cullen or Shaun Rogers are still here. Those are good enough questions...for a member of the MSM. But Samuelson got me to thinking. What would a blogger like myself ask the Lions' moronic President and GM if I had an opportunity to sit down with Millen? So I thought of a few...1.
