Golf News: Buick invitational Round 3 Wrap
2008-01-27 05:33:36
Five-times champion Tiger Woods tightened his grip on a 62nd PGA Tour title, surging eight strokes clear after the Buick Invitational third round. Four ahead overnight, the world No.1 doubled his lead with a flawless six-under-par 66 on the South Course at Torrey Pines. That left him 18-under, well ahead of playing partner and fellow American Stewart Cink, who rolled in a 35-foot eagle putt at the last for a 69. Joe Durant was a further stroke back in third at nine under after a 67. Australia's Aaron Baddeley (71) was in a group of players in a tie for fourth on seven under, 11 shots behind Woods. Woods, bidding for his fourth successful title at Torrey Pines, produced a six-birdie display that could have been even better but for a missed four-foot birdie putt at the second. His 54-hole lead shattered the previous tournament best of five set by Gene Littler in 1954 and equalled by Bob Goalby in 1967 and JC Snead in 1976...Read the complete golf news story

Wierdest golf story ever (and pretty disturbing too)!
2008-01-26 12:17:49
Yep this one takes the cake as the most strange story I have ever heard (not just about golf either). I read it in my local paper and didn't even believe it at first (and still can't really).Golf workers fired over Caddy snackTWO golf club employees in Hawaii have been charged after stealing a patron's dog while he was playing a round, then killing and eating it. Witnesses told Moanalua Golf Club officials they saw Saturnino Palting, 58, and Nelson Domingo, 43, put the German shepherd-labrador dog named Caddy into a car and drive away at the end of their shift on December 16,. The dog's owner, Frank Manuma, said he tied up eight-month-old Caddy while he played a round of golf but the dog was gone when he came back, the Associated Press said. The club fired the workers and investigators later told Mr Manuma they had butchered and ate his pet. Mr Manuma said he and his wife considered the dog like a child they never had. A grand jury indicted Palting and Domingo on theft and a ...

Golf News: Buick invitational Round 2 Wrap
2008-01-26 06:02:07
Tiger Woods, back in action after a five-week break, overcame a second successive day of wayward driving to take control of the Buick Invitational. Two off the pace overnight, the world number one forged four strokes clear with a sparkling seven-under-par 65 in the second round at a sun-drenched Torrey Pines. Woods piled up seven birdies in a bogey-free display on the North Course, the easier of the two par-72 layouts hosting the fourth event on the PGA Tour. That left him at 12-under 132, ahead of American rookie Kevin Streelman who birdied the last for a 69 on the longer South Course to secure second place. Australian Aaron Baddeley was a further two strokes back at six under after a 67 on the North Course. "It was the same thing as yesterday, low left and high right," Woods told reporters of his tee shots after finding only six fairways out of 14. "I've got to get that organised. When I tried to steer it out there today it wasn't very good." Despite his struggles off the tee, ...

2008-01-26 06:00:16
In my opinion sports are one of the best inventions man has ever made. Sports have united countries, caused wars, created friendships and rivalries, provided us with some of the most memorable moments and upsets, and made those holidays bearable. However, some people believe that the best part about sports is being able to put a few dollars on the game and make it more exciting to watch. I must admit that I am not one of these people - I enjoy sports without the thrill of gambling on them, but I can understand why people do it.football betting is big business and it really doesn't matter if you are talking about soccer football or American football - they are both really popular. However you can bet on almost everything these days and online betting is so popular (and easy I must say) these days. Betfair is one of these online sites and it is one of the more popular sports betting sites. As you would expect the site is really well designed and is too easy to use. You will be able to fi ...

Golf News: Qatar Golf Masters Round 2 Wrap
2008-01-26 04:35:41
Swede Johan Edfors shot a scintillating six under par 66 to take a two-shot lead going into the third round at the 2.5 million dollar Qatar Masters on Friday. Edfors, who was tied for the second place in a pack of six players on 69 at the end of the first round on Thursday, blazed a birdie trail at the Doha Golf course on a day when the chill caught many by surprise. He hit the best score of the tournament so far, which included seven birdies and a bogey on the fourth. Enjoying a purple patch on the front nine, he picked up successive birdies on the fifth, sixth and seventh holes to set himself up nicely for the rest of the tournament with an aggregate of nine-under-par 135. Trailing Edfors by two shots were South African Charl Schwartzel and England's Lee Westwood on seven-under-par 137, while Sweden's Alexander Noren, South African Anton Haig, Englishmen Ross McGowan and David Howell were in third place a shot behind. Westwood, the joint overnight leader, stroked a 70 in the sec ...

Holidays - you can't spend all your time playing golf
2008-01-26 04:30:15
When you go on a holiday you can't spend all your time golfing can you? I remember my trip to Vegas wasn't just filled with golf :-) I went on tours of the Madame Tussauds Las Vegas Wax Museum, the Grand canyon and even visited the Hoover Dam. I also packing in a fair bit of golf and spending (or rather losing) a few dollars in the many many casinos! On one of my tours I met one of the extras from the movie Troy and had a grand old time asking questions about the making of the movie and what it was like to work on a movie set! If you are interested in taking some Vegas tours there really is heaps to do!Trusted Tours & Attractions are a really top quality travel company that can hook you up to some great sightseeing tours all over the US. They have tours for most of the major cities and their website is really well setup and easy to use. I found exactly what I was looking for without any trouble. Golf News: Buick invitational Round 1 Wrap
2008-01-25 08:30:09
American Troy Matteson fired a seven-under 65 to grab a one-shot lead after Thursday's opening round of the 5.2 million dollar PGA Buick Invitational. Tiger Woods, who is making his season-opening appearance, was one of four golfers at five-under 67 and is two shots back. Matteson was one shot ahead of fellow American Brad Adamonis, who shot a 66 on the north course. Matteson played Thursday on Torrey Pines' south course which will be showcased later in June when it plays host to the 2008 US Open. He posted eight birdies and one bogey. "I played the south course earlier this week and didn't break par either day I played it," said Matteson, who hit 11 of 14 fairways. "For the Open it's going to be tough. I know I missed a few fairways." The only other score in the top 12 from the demanding south course was by Woods, the three-time defending champion. Woods was tied with South African Rory Sabbatini, Australian Stuart Appleby and American Kevin Streelman at 67. A half dozen golfer ...

Goosen withdraws with vision problems
2008-01-24 08:08:11
The title may be a little misleading, Goosen doesn't have a lack of drive, goals or vision, but a problem with his eyes after corrective laser surgery:Retief Goosen's hopes of becoming the first golfer to win the European Tour's Qatar Masters on two occasions were wrecked on Wednesday when he was forced to withdraw with vision problems. The South African came to Doha after undergoing corrective laser surgery ten days ago but during practice on Tuesday, his vision in one eye began to blur. He immediately travelled to Dubai for further treatment and was hopeful of playing the event even on Tuesdy night. However, he announced his withdrawal Wednesday morning, saying he was still having problems with his vision. Goosen said: "I am obviously very sad that I am unable to defend my title. I came all this way to play but unfortunately the eye is causing a problem. "I thought it would come good but it hasn't. I went to Dubai yesterday and the advice was to go back to London for treatment. " ...

Asian Tour stars Liang Wen-chong, Jeev Milkha Singh and Prayad Marksaeng have expressed delight after receiving special invitations to compete in The Masters tournament in April. The trio were over the moon Tuesday after learning they will compete in the year's first major and have vowed to perform admirably at Augusta National Golf Club to reinforce the rise of Asian golf. Asian Tour Executive Chairman Kyi Hla Han said their invitations were further recognition of the Tour's growing stature. "We are delighted for our three players. It is another endorsement for the Asian Tour," said Kyi, adding that he was grateful for the "belief and vision for golf in Asia". "I am confident that Liang Wen-chong, Prayad Marksaeng and Jeev Milkha Singh will fly the Asian Tour flag proudly at Augusta National in their quest to challenge the world's best golfers." Augusta National chairman Billy Payne announced the names for the April 10-13 tournament on Monday. "These three individuals are succes ...

Web hosting for your golf site
2008-01-23 03:22:23
It is no secret that I have been thinking about properly hosting this golf blog away from the blogger servers partially because of the slow speeds the site takes to load some days. Since I created the ultimate golf blog I have started several other projects that I have hosted properly and must say that dedicated hosting is really the only way to go. However, there are literally thousands of choices out there and you really need to find a good website to compare all the options such as web hosting choice . I have personally used their website and it is really simple to use. You can search by monthly cost, disk space, setup fee and bandwidth. If you are looking for a web host then I suggest checking out their site.

Tiger brushes off lynching comment
2008-01-22 04:23:32
Tiger Woods says Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman meant no harm when she used the term "lynch" during television commentary about him, and he regards the issue closed as he returns to work this week. "It was unfortunate," Woods said on Monday in his first public comments since Tilghman was suspended for two weeks. "Kelly and I did speak. There was no ill intent. She regrets saying it. In my eyes, it's all said and done." Woods spoke at the Tiger Woods Learning Center, where he announced a contest for children to talk about their first "fist-pump" moment. He also unveiled a bronze of his late father, Earl Woods, which will be in the lobby of the educational centre. The world's No. 1 player will make his 2008 debut at the Buick Invitational in San Diego, which starts on Thursday. Despite not having played since his season-ending Target World Challenge last month, Woods has been a big part of golf news. "I've been in that situation before," he said with a slight smile. Golf and the law
2008-01-22 04:19:44
From time to time golfers get into trouble and sometimes they are not even on the golf course at the time. Recently a very famous Australian footballer was caught speeding on his way to the golf course exceeding the speed limit by a whopping 88 kmh (about 54 miles). When things go wrong it is important to have a very good lawyer (or two) to represent your case. If you have are in LA then a visit to Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorneys | California DUI Felony Misdemeanor Lawyers might be worthwhile. This post should not be taken as legal advice

Online golf superstore
2008-01-12 01:39:27
Buying golf equipment online is becoming more and more popular. I think the reason for this is that online retailers have fewer costs than a store and can pass the savings onto the consumers. I still recommend trying out golf clubs before buying them, but it is easy to try them in store and then order the same model online.Today I came across the online golf superstore and I was surprised at the amount of golf equipment they had on offer. They carry everything from balls and clubs to tees, shoe bags and training aids. I would be surprised if you couldn't find what you were looking for - I certainly did. They offer discount golf clubs, but they still carry quality products and are certainly one of the better online stores I have visited. If you are looking for some cheap golf clubs I would recommend a visit to their website.

Sony Open - Day 1 Wrap
2008-01-11 11:19:23
SOUTH Korea's KJ Choi reeled off six birdies in a blemish-free display to grab a one-shot lead in the Sony Open first round. Bidding for his seventh PGA Tour title, Choi fired a six-under-par 64 in surprisingly calm conditions at Waialae Country Club to take control of the second event of the 2008 season. The 37-year-old Korean rolled in an 11-foot birdie putt at the 15th to move into a four-way tie for the lead before edging ahead with another birdie at the par-five last. Americans Heath Slocum, Steve Marino and Jimmy Walker had to settle for joint-second spot after opening with 65s. Nathan Green was the best of the Australians after shooting a two-under 68 with Aaron Baddeley and Matt Jones a further shot back. “In practice I felt my shots were coming back, that I was getting into my rhythm,” Choi said after getting up and down from a greenside bunker on the final hole. “Last week I had a bit of trouble with the putting. But this week I felt like my putting was coming ...

Kelly Tilghman suspended! Your thoughts?
2008-01-10 11:07:26
cable television network The Golf Channel has suspended one of its presenters for two weeks for making a racially sensitive comment at the expense of world No.1 Tiger Woods.Anchor Kelly Tilghman, a former playing professional, joked in a telecast with Nick Faldo that players bidding to challenge Woods might have to "lynch him in a back alley''.The Golf Channel said it regretted Tilghman's remarks and had decided to suspend her for two weeks."There is simply no place on our network for offensive language like this,'' it said in a statement."While we believe that Kelly's choice of words were inadvertent and that she did not intend them in an offensive manner, the words were hurtful and grossly inappropriate.''Tilghman apologised for the remark, which was made after Friday's second round at the PGA Tour's season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship on the Hawaiian island of Maui."On Friday, during our golf broadcast, Nick Faldo and I were discussing Tiger's dominance in the golf world and I ...

Golf Jokes - The True Rules of Golf (Part 2)
2008-01-09 10:58:32
The True Rules of Golf Part 2The shortest distance between any two points on a golf course is a straight line that passes directly through the center of a very large tree. There are two kinds of bounces: unfair bounces, and bounces just theway you meant to play it. You can hit a 2-acre fairway 10% of the time, and a 2-inch branch90% of the time. Every time a golfer makes a birdie, he must subsequently make two triple bogeys to restore the fundamental equilibrium of the universe. If you want to hit a 7-iron as far as Tiger Woods does, simply try to lay up just short of a water hazard. To calculate the speed of a player's downswing, multiply the speed of his backswing by his handicap. Example: backswing 20 mph, handicap 15, downswing 600 mph. There are two things you can learn by stopping your backswing at the topand checking the position of your hands: how many hands you have, and which one is wearing the glove. Hazards attract. Fairways repel. You can put "draw" on the b ...

Golf Jokes - The True Rules of Golf (Part 1)
2008-01-09 10:48:14
The True Rules of Golf - Part 1The game of golf is 90% mental and 10% mental. If you want to get better at golf, go back and take it up at a much earlier age. Since bad shots come in groups of three, a fourth bad shot is actually the beginning of the next group of three. When you look up and cause an awful shot, you will always look down again at exactly the moment when you ought to start watching the ball if you ever want to see it again. Any change works for a maximum of three holes and a minimum of not at all. No matter how bad you are playing, it is always possible to play worse Never keep more than 300 separate thoughts in your mind during your swing. When your shot has to carry over a water hazard, you can either hit onemore club or two more balls.Golfers who claim they don't cheat, also lie. If you're afraid a full shot might reach the green while the foursome ahead of you is still putting out, you have two options: you can immediately shanka lay-up, or you can wai ...

Tiger is not everyone's number 1
2008-01-09 10:28:07
TIGER Woods has humbled opponents for more than a decade; made a mockery of the world's toughest courses; and forced golf's establishment to rethink the game's equipment, its tournament scheduling, even its dress code. Less well-known is the mess Woods has made for fantasy golfers. Though less prominent than the juggernaut of fantasy football, fantasy golf leagues are offered by Yahoo, ESPN, NBC Sports and the Golf Channel, among others. These leagues usually operate by the same general principles used in other fantasy sports - you draft a "team" composed of the players you think will shoot the lowest scores, win the most tournaments or earn the most prizemoney in the year, then you watch them compete against the various imaginary teams assembled by your dimwit friends. This week, as many fantasy golf leagues conduct their drafts, a lot of them are having to make up the rules as they go. Golf keeps resisting their efforts to turn it into a parlour game. Problem No.1 is Tiger. ...

If you are looking at purchasing some fine art then Park West Gallery may have what you are looking for. Golf instruction: Bump and Run (Video)
2008-01-08 10:18:48
While it is not regarded as a very glamorous shot the bump and run should be a shot in every golfers arsenal. This great little instructional video will give you the basics you need to play this great little shot. As always practice makes perfect (or so they keep telling me) and this shot is one that doesn't take too long to learn. I loved watching Greg Norman play this shot and he had one awesome short game.Just a word of warning though this shot can be very frustrating - for the opposition! A 60 yard bump and run from my brother (he says he meant it) last round that ended up inches from the hole, while my pitch was still yards away, almost had me in tears.
