The following e-mail just arrived in my Outlook and I felt the need to share the warning. I’m certain Redbox isn’t the only target, and silly me for not being educated on blindly having my card swiped or swiping my card as a “convenience”.To Our Valued Customers:A few days ago redbox detected and removed an illegal credit card skimming device at one of our 7,400 locations. At the same time, redbox also discovered evidence of skimming attempts in two other locations. Skimming involves the placement of an illegal device above the credit/debit card reader on a vending machine, ATM, or in this case a redbox. These devices are used to illegally read or store personal credit card information.

“This totally sucks! I mean, comparing me to a . . . a gamer? No Way!” Mary* is up in arms over a recently comparison made in the UK’s Times Online in which Giles Whittell compared video games to teen pregnancy and heroin.
“I’ve totally never played video games - I mean, my friend Todd would try to get me into all this and I’d be like whatever and he’d be like ’sit down, you look pregnant’ and I’d like hit him and stuff. Todd’s an ass.”
Whittell, a guest editorialist for the Times, stated in his most recent piece:
I hate video games, on or offline. I hate the way they suck real people into fake worlds and hold on to them for decades at a time. I hate being made to feel hateful for saying so, and I hate being told to immerse myself in them before passing judgment, because it feels like being told to immerse myself in smack and teenage pregnancy before passing judgment on them.

Atari delays game release not to bring you a better game, but to treat you like a criminal

Shamus over at Twenty Sided has a very well thought out and detailed article about Atari’s decision to delay the release of an expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights 2 in order to create and polish their new DRM scheme. The idiocy of those corporations who rely on DRM never ceases to amaze me.

The game was complete last year, which means they were willing to miss a Christmas release in order to release the game with a more fully developed copy-prevention system. This brings their priorities into sharp relief.
Please go read Shamus’ post, and consider the following.They didn’t delay the game to improve it, or iron out bugs, or make a better experience for the end user. They delayed it, and missed holiday profits, so they could enable a new DRM scheme. Blech.

Okay, it’s really a cloud, but given our tendency to take abstract patterns and glom them into something relatively familiar - we get the Starship Enterprise. It’s nice to know that while we fumble about with space flight and much, much slower than light travel that the boys and girls from Starfleet are keeping Mars safe. While I’ve never been a huge Star Trek fan myself, the show did do a lot for me in a round about way by getting lots of other folks thinking about spaceflight, science fiction and what have you. It certainly helped birth several generations of scientists, authors and creative media types. I think it’s only right to pay some respect to the old ship and somehow fitting that the MGS should have come up with this photo.

Twine is a new service that helps you organize, share and discover information about your interests, with networks of like-minded people. You can use Twine alone, with friends, groups and communities, or even in your company.
It’s part social website, part calendar, part usenet brought back to the front of things. In my fooling about with it I’ve found that it’s pretty neat. It takes all of the above mentioned things and ties it together well in a way that’s not overwhelming. It is still in beta - invitation only so expect some kinks.
There are two things I’ll need from you for me to send out an invite and I only have 8 invites.
First, you’ll have to email me though our contact page and ask nicely. Be sure to include your email so I can send you the invite.

Thanks to a badly functioning router, I was trapped in the real world for most of the weekend. It was an eye opener to be sure.

So a few months ago, Arsgeek called me up and said “Hey, want a new laptop?†Well, of course I do! The only catch was, I had to give it back after a month of use. “So let me get this straight,†I said â€I get to use an Alienware M9750 notebook for a month, and all I have to do is write a crummy review for your website? Count me in!.†Of course, that was several months ago, and here I sit, no article written yet. Ahhh, the life of a family man, no time for fun stuff!
Back on track here, I got to spend 30 or so quality days with an Alienware Area-51 M9750 laptop. 2GB RAM, dual SLI Nvidia 8700M GT video cards, Intel Core 2 Duo T7600, yadda yadda yadda. Oh yeah, and weight of about 42 stone. Or seemingly so. It’s actually 9lbs 8 oz. or so with the battery, but felt like I was lifting a two ton heavy thing.

There’s something a lot of people don’t know about me. Okay, there are a lotta something’s that people don’t know about me. One of them is my love of dance- and I’m not talking about ballet or Lord of the Dance etc, I’m talking about DANCE baby. Street, hip hop studio choreographed pop lock funky crazy stuff. In my younger years I was constantly dancing alone and with friends. I was dancing to the radio, stereo, MTV, the rain pounding on the roof and the music in my head. I was choreographing, coming up with new moves and having dance off’s with friends in the streets or back yard. As I aged the dance off’s went to the clubs and parking lots- and then the 9-5 grind halted my dancing feet except for those moments when I’m with my son and I can’t resist a song that begs, “DANCE TO ME!!!” (like the Teen Titan theme song). Where do emails to donotreply.com go? Why to this guy, who then posts them on his blog

DoNotReply.com was registered way back in 2000, practically the dark ages of the Internet by a guy who thought it would be a funny domain name. Turns out though that a lot of people who don’t want to receive replies simply change their “from” field to “something@donotreply.com”. So when people reply, guess where it goes?
A bit about the site:
First, no we didn’t send the mail.
There are only about handful of registered owners of a donotreply.com email address. What normally happens is some spammer slugs it in, or more likely an IT person decides they don’t want to deal with bounced emails one of their programs send out, so what they do is set it to something cute at @donotreply.com as the return address.
They think this solves the problem. No more bounced emails!
But in reality what they have just done is sent all bounced emails to me. And not just bounced emails, but if someone gets an email with the donotreply.com address and replies to it? Well ...
