California's prices are already 56 cents higher than at this time a year ago, and forecasters say the nationwide average may hit $3.50 to $3.75 a gallon by Memorial Day. Many of you know Knott's by it's original name Knott's Berry Farm. In 1997 the Knott's family sold the farm and it's operations to Cedar Fair. Over the last ten years Cedar Fair has changed what was a unique family run amusement park into roller coaster world. In the beginning the farm was a roadside stand along Highway 39. The Knott's sold berries, berry plants and pies. To help support the farm, Knott's wife Cordelia sold chicken dinners to passing motorists. Within a few years the chicken dinners became so popular there were lines waiting to eat her now famous chicken. Walter Knott added attractions to help entertain people while they waited for the chicken dinners. Over the years the attractions and rides drew more visitors than the chicken. Not everything has been replaced at Knott's, you can still get a chicken dinner and the ghost town section is still there. Pt. Fermin Lighthouse was built in 1874 with lumber from California redwoods. The lighthouse was a one-keeper station until 1941 when all coastal lights were extinguished. The lens lantern and gallery were replaced by an lookout shack which remained for the next thirty years. The structure fell into disuse and disrepair until a new lantern and gallery were built by volunteers, restoring it to its original condition in 1974. Angels Flight in downtown Los Angeles is called the "Shortest Railway in the World". The Los Angeles Incline Railway was built in 1901 by Col. J.W. Eddy to connect the downtown shopping district the residential district of Bunker Hill. Over the years Bunker Hill slowly became a run down section of town full of boarding houses and empty lots. An urban renewal project in the late 1960s converted Bunker Hill into office buildings and a senior citizen's condominium complex, called the Angelus Plaza. During that period Angels Flight was dismantled and put into storage. In 1995 the railway was rebuilt and opened to serve office workers and torusits. Unfortunately in 2001 an accident killed one person and injured seven and closed Angels Flight.
