Here in this country, politics is governed by the rich and powerful. These kinds of “trapos” or traditional politicians rule with guns, goons and gold. They have so many promises, they kiss babies, visit the wakes of the recently dead and even contribute to drinking sprees in the “kantos” (sidestreets) especially during or near an election period. With the Waukster, I attend the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs eyeball event hosted and organized by the charming Janette Toral. The event was held last night, Aug 1 at Max’s Restaurant in Greenbelt, Makati. I saw a lot of bloggers, press and familiar faces including ChrisH, Ceskypooh and Ninemoons. Well, they drew the winners of $100 for this event. Of course, I wasn’t drawn for the $100 (awww) BUT I won a Wiz wi-fi package for 2 days in the raffle, one of which I gave to the Waukster! Rawwr! Hear ye! Hear ye!  The Perfect World Philippines MMORPG team is inviting everyone to come join them for a huge launch party of the game. This event “Enter A Perfect World” will be this Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007 and it will be at the SM Megatrade Hall 2(SM Megamall) from 10:30am to 9:00pm. When CEO Jane Walker asked me to chair the informal “Level Up Fun Committee”, part of my job is to bring back the fun and excitement back to the office. While taking cigarette breaks in our favorite hangout: “6.5″, project officer Alex Mena  (a fellow toy collector and ebay addict) and myself came up with an idea to organize the first ever LEVEL UP TOY FAIR 2007. A lot of Level Up employees love and collect toys. What better way to showcase these than in an exhibit/contest. The timing was also perfect since we just celebrated our 5th year anniversary as a company this week. The mechanics was simple, each employee can bring up to two toys (action figures or vehicle). Level Up 5th Year Anniversary

It’s been 5 years since that historic day, July 24, 2002 when the father and son tandem of Nonoy and Ben Colayco founded Level Up Incorporated. Time really flies. Now, still the undisputed leader in the local online game indsutry, we’re still here and ever growing. (It’s also my 3rd year officially. Woot!) We celebrated our 5th year anniversary in Mag.Net at the Fort last night (boy… hang overs are tough, dude). Senior managers led by our CEO, Jane Walker and Level Up International COO Ben Colayco and of course, our big boss ABC - Mr. Nonoy Colayco  gave inspirational talks and congratulated everyone for a job well done. Special mention went to everyone in the RO (for taking 3rd place in RWC) and Perfect World team and all who helped made it a successful Open Beta (the numbers are still growing even as I type!). Level Up Games - What’s Up?

Another exciting and frenetic week here at the office. (So what else is new?!?) Top of the charts is the celebration of our 5th year anniversary as a company. We’re having a thanksgiving mass today at 5pm here at the office and then tomorrow, we have a small gathering cum party with friends after office. I also organized the first-ever Level Up Toy Festival: where employees can get to showcase their toy collections and senior managers get to judge them. Submission begins this week and judging will be on Friday. I’m sure that the departments are gonna “out-do” one another in this cool internal event. I foresee a lot of Transformers toys to show up. If you’re one of the top MMO players in the world, beware. Some greedy bastards might just abduct you for your password. This happened recently in Sao Paolo, Brazil when an armed gang of four kidnapped one the world’s best gamers. To quote that report; “An armed gang of four kidnapped one of the world’s top RPG gamers after one criminal’s girlfriend lured him into a fake date using Orkut, Google’s social network. Cliq - Friendster for Gamers!

Weee! The beta for Cliq - our SNS (Social Network Service) for gamers (and non-gamers too) has just started. I already made a post about Cliq Beta a month back. Cliq is essentially a “friendster-like” application that will let you connect to your online friends, allies and guildmates. With CLIQ, you can have a profile page, “testi”, blogs, photos, messages and guild functions. Note that this site is still in Beta and we would value your feedback. The Cliq team will be adding more features and functions in the weeks to come. I’m sure Cliq will revolutionize the gaming community! Philippines Bags 3rd Place in RWC 2007

Sadly, we didn’t bring home the gold but Team Armada-Philippines, official RP team to the Ragnarok World Championships 2007 held at the Lotte Activity Center in Seoul, Korea, took the bronze medal after defeating Germany 2-0. Team Philippines lost to the Korea National team 2-0 in the bid for one of two finals slots. Korea went on to battle Thailand (who defeated Germany) for the finals. Thailand went to upset the host country 3-1 in their best-of-five finals match to become the 2007 RWC Champions!. This is the best finish yet for our country in the second installment of the international Ragnarok tournament. The RWC 2007 ends today and the Philippine contingent will fly back to Manila tomorrow, July 23, 2007. RF Online BTA Event at Robinsons

Just like I promised, I headed on over to Robinson’s Galerria yesterday at around 3pm to help the guys (and do a photo coverage) in the RF Online Boss Time Attack. The event area (where the fountain is) at the Robinson’s Galerria mall was jam-packed with RF players and teams who were out to compete for the BTA. Also, a lot of Novus Citizens (who got themselves a LOT of raffle tickets) awaited the grand winner of the major raffle. The lucky dude got to take home a set of Perfect Elementals (lucky guy!). Team Armada, the official Philippine Team to the 2007 Ragnarok World Championships just beat Indonesia 2-0 in their first assignment today and then went on to take down Brazil 2-1. In a twist of fate, Team Brazil, also sponsored by Level Up, meets up with our representatives in a match that would take the winner to the semi-finals (most likely with South Korea) tomorrow, July 21. Wauks blogs about the details of the match: “The first match was quick, as Team PH’s Champion was singled out and taken down. Brazil took the early lead at 1-0. Team PH bounced back during the second round as the Champion was able to place a well-timed Extremity Fist to Brazil’s Professor, this move tied the series at 1-1. The last and deciding match was even more intense, as the two teams immediately engaged each other in a melee. However, Team PH was able to eliminate Brazil’s Professor once again”.
