I’ve been blogging now for more than 6 months. Honestly, it really IS hard work. But it’s something that I enjoy doing and something that’s fun. During that time, there have been some great posts and of course, some lame ones. I try to keep up with the “niche” so to speak. In this case, it’s the online gaming industry (with focus on the Philippines). So everyday, the typical routine is for me to go browse other gaming blogs, gaming sites, check out Digg, read my feeds through google reader and then plot out what to write during the day. Sometimes, an idea forms… a bulb turns on and I start putting my thoughts on the PC screen and come up with content without much forethought. Here’s a collection of my favorite posts from the past. Wow! It’s a good week… I was on TV yesterday and now this blog is a feature in Business World Online. Thanks to writer Jeffrey Valsino for doing a phone interview with me. I enjoyed every moment of it and the pleasure was all mine. Jeffrey writes about the story of this blog (among others), entitled the “Pinoy Blogger” - how I started without any knowledge and how it has grown day-by-day. Thanks for the nice article, Jeffrey. Great news, MMORPG addicts! The long wait is over. Perfect World Philippines, one of the most anticipated MMORPG titles of this year, is now on Open Beta effective today, July 18, 2007. Last Monday, a couple (husband and wife) in Reno, Nevada, US were charged with “child neglect” for being engrossed in online games too much that they almost starved to death their 2 babies. According to MSNBC news, “The children of Michael and Iana Straw, a boy age 22 months and a girl age 11 months, were severely malnourished and near death last month when doctors saw them after social workers took them to a hospital, authorities said. Level Up CEO Visits ChinaJoy 2007 Event

Our CEO, Ms. Jane Walker is currently at China this week for the ChinaJoy 2007 event. Following the E3 in U.S. , and the Tokyo Game Show in Japan , ChinaJoy is designed to become another great event of the world’s game industry. It is meant to “strengthen domestic game supervision in China , actively regulate the Chinese market, and rigorously fight against piracy, in order to encourage and support the development and the sales of legal game products.” Ms. Walker is there to look at new content and other alternate titles for the Philippine market, of course. While there, she had the opportunity to be interviewed by mmosite.com who called her a “very charming lady”. I’m sure you’ve gone “oohh” and “ahhh” over the Apple iPhone. For some (and for me), it’s the perfect mobile phone - Ever. Period. Now, are you wondering when is the release date for iPhone in the Philippines? Sorry but it’s not this year. Unfortunately, AT&T has a deal with Apple for an apperent lock-down on exclusive rights as telco in the United States. The iphone was released in the US last June 29 in what Steve Jobs and company dubbed, the most succesful product intro of the 21st century. With record-breaking sales, Apple now anticipate 13.5 million iPhone sales by the end of 2008, with Apple planning to produce 8 million of the devices by the end of 2007 - well ahead of Steve Jobs’ target of ten million sales by the end of 2008. Movies: Die Hard 4.0 Review

You can’t put down a real action hero like John McClane. And in Die Hard 4.0, Bruce Willis definitely shows us that even if he’s 51, there’s still much that he can do to bring justice to the legacy which is Die Hard. I saw the movie with a couple of officemates last week and I was literally blown away. After having a blast in Transformers, June and July may just prove to be the best movie-months this year. Since most of the business of Philippine online games and MMORPGs come from the Internet Cafe sector (around 70 -80%), I’m very proud about the Level Up sales team! Sales Director, Apol is a no-nonsense guy. He strives for excellence in service. That’s why he and his team of managers constantly do trainings for our sales team. Being a sales executive for LU is no easy job, mind you. With around 8,000 cafes here in the Philippines which must be visited (at least) once a month, they also have to take lead in “rolling out” posters, CDs and doing installation of new games and new patches for older games. Of course, the process of selling our cards is one of their primary mandates. This coming week, me and the members of my team will get to experience first-hand what it’s REALLY like to become a field sales agent as we help the sales team do installation roll-out for Perfect World. As a marketer, I am always cautious on the “branding” of things. In our business of online games we have tried to apply tried-and-tested methods and processes to brand our games individually. Each must have a core set of values and we must be able to communicate these values to our target market. Sometimes it’s hard to just concentrate on the game features and we must be able to place importance on the brand based on the emotional and actual experience that it gives to the gamers. Now that I am truly addicted to blogging, it came as a thought that I brand myself and then my blog.
