Ragnarok for the DS?

Gungho Online Entertainment of Japan, through a poorly translated source has recently announced their plans to put our favorite game, Ragnarok Online into the Nintendo DS. The only details announced was that there were 3 playable characters: A “strong and vengeful swordsman, a swift thief, or a caring healer.” They also hinted on the possibility of traveling in 10 lands in Midgard. Heya kids! Time for another “Week That Was”… Anyways, it really is a sad, sad week for all us folks here in LUG as we say goodbye to one of our favorite games - ROSE Online. Don’t get me wrong… this wasn’t a decision that happened overnight. A lot of work and thought was considered before coming to final decision of letting a good game such as pROSE go. There’s nothing wrong with the game. But being idle for almost a year and a half without any new content is really hard. Triggersoft, Gravity’s development arm for pROSE was having some issues - I guess in terms of manpower. In the 13 years of existence of the Entertainment Software Rating Board or ESRB, would you believe that there have been only 23 games which got a rating of Adult-Only? Most of the games fall into the class of titles such as Playboy Mansion and the like. I hate to be the bringer of sad news. But after careful thought and consideration, we, Level Up, are shutting down operations for Philippine Rose Online. It’s been a great two years. I’m quite proud to have been there when it all started. And I’m really sad that we are saying goodbye to the game. Last June 26, 2007, the South Korean government office called the Korean National Tax Service (which equivalent to the US IRS or the Philippine BIR) has announced that they are imposing a Value Added Tax (VAT) to RMT (Real Money Trading) in online games. Often called “PHP Trading” here locally, the new rule is summarized as below: “Sellers who do between 6 and 12 million won/half year in business (USD 13,000 or PHP 637,000) will have VAT auto applied by transaction’s middle-man. The official Philippine Team for the Ragnarok World Championships (RWC) 2007, Team Armada, is currently busy preparing for their battles. They will fly to Seoul to compete on July 21-22, 2007. Last Friday, I was at their practice session together with makmak641, Waukeen and the pRO Community Managers, Blue and Bubbles. The fights were intense. WARNING: If you haven’t seen the movie… READ NO FURTHER! (SPOILER) I just watched the movie last night with my wife at Greenhills Promenade and all I can say is that it was great! I was blown away by the special effects and the mega-destruction fight scenes between machines vs. man vs. machines. It’s a good thing that we Asians have an advance screening vs. those from the Americas. If you look at the official transformers site it now says “7.2.7″ from a “7.4.7″ date. Perhaps they can’t take any much more that we are getting to see it before they do. The latest episode for Philippine Ragnarok Online (That’s Episode 15 for us here in the country), Rachel/Arunfeltz is now officially patched for Sakray. Sakray is the official test server for pRO and is one patch ahead of the commercial worlds. After several years of drought from any major pRO trophy, the first and the oldest server in Philippine Ragnarok Online, Chaos, has finally bagged its first major title. Armada, who defeated another guild from Chaos, Sustainer of the Realms (an ally both from the uber-Chaos Alliance conglomerate - led of course by legendary “Kuya” and pRO leader, makmak641) is now the official Philippine Team to the 2007 Ragnarok World Championships! I was inspired by the comments on my latest post about the Top 5 Myths about GMs. Some really agree that there are a lot of players who feel that all employees are GMs. Also, I got support and feedback that indeed, GMs are understaffed and over-worked. I agree. With a lot of tasks that a GM has to do, there has to be some sort of “assitance” needed. That’s precisely the point why I (together with GM Garamond and the RF team) started the RF Vanguard program. Before I came aboard Level Up in 2004, I was active as a guildmaster in Philippine Ragnarok Online. Our guild was not a popular one, we didn’t number in the hundreds and we weren’t even aggressive in PVP or Agit Sieges (but we got one in Payon for a week! Woot!). But we were happy. I started the guild as a way to get in touch with friends. Since we were all busy with jobs and family responsibilities, the guild – which I dubbed “The Fellowship” (named after the same moniker as our tabletop RPG group founded in the 90s), was a way for us to meet every night and catch up, go “dungeon delving” and rip the butts of powerful beasts along the way.
