Download free Drillbit Taylor and Hitman goodiesFiled under: News, Xbox Live MarketplaceIf you're like us, we need a fresh coat of new gamer picture paint ever once and a while. You know, to keep things fresh and lively. But our only requirement is that all gamer pictures we grab from the XBLM must be free. Call us old fashioned, but that's how we roll. So, we're happy to share with you that two new sets of movie themed gamer pictures (and dashboard themes) are available to U.S. Xbox Live members for free.Right now on the XBLM, you can grab a free Hitman the movie gamer picture pack and theme as well as a free gamer picture and theme from Owen Wilson's comedy Drillbit Taylor. Like we said, all four sets of downloadable goodness are free and are (surprisingly) quite well done. Especially the Drillbit Taylor pack. You'll have to download to see, but for some reason those gamer pictures make us crack up. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments Link - Comments - Dustin Burg ...

Dojo update: Picture perfect - SendMeRSS

Dojo update: Picture perfectFiled under: Screens This is it, folks: the final dojo update before Brawl hits the U.S., and there's a definite "last day of school" feel to proceedings. So, rather than deal with the drudgery of introducing new stages or describing individual items in fine detail, Sakurai and his team of translators have just hung around with their shirts hanging out, flicked ink at girls, and uploaded around a hundred or so of the best images that users have taken using Brawl's Snapshot mode (unfortunately, because we have a blog to run here, we only found time to upload around half). Some of these made us titter, some missed the mark, and others really need to be viewed with their caption (you'll have to go to the dojo itself for that) for the full effect. Oh, and you can forget shots of Peach's underwear, or of Snake and Pikachu in compromising positions. The dojo is a place for all the family, after all. Not some depraved message board thread. WRUP: Uh duh editionFiled under: What are you playing? You all have a good idea as to what we'll be playing this weekend, and we pretty much know what you'll be playing. We imagine many of you will be acquiring your copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl come Saturday night, as GameStop will have a midnight launch for the game and, we imagine, Wal-Mart and some other retails will follow their lead. We'd call if you're counting on getting the game somewhere other than GameStop before showing up Saturday night. We'd hate you to get burned. As such, we will hold a special edition of Game Night on Saturday night. All of the staff won't be there, but I will. So after you go get your game, come home and hit up Wii Fanboy for the details on getting in on the brawl! Just give me a little time to participate in the tournament here in my local town, okay?Gallery: Super Smash Bros. New Mushroom Men trailer sproutsFiled under: Video Mushroom Men, if you'll excuse the terrible pun, is beginning to grow on us. We're ready for another platformer after, you know, and Red Fly's plant-based romp looks like it could keep us occupied. There's a quaint, almost eerie vibe to the game, with a Fifties B-movie tone to most of what it does.In the trailer above -- the first we've seen of the game in some time -- we get a look at some combat (against common garden beasties, such as ants and rabbits), as well as our fungal hero flexing his magical "spore-based powers."Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments Ads by Google Link - Comments - Chris Greenhough - Fri, 07 Mar 2008 19:15:00 GMT - Feed (8 subs) gamecock mushroom-men mushroommen platformer red-fly Sent using SendMeRss.com. Metareview: Smash Bros. Brawl - SendMeRSS
2008-03-07 20:31:02
Metareview: Smash Bros. BrawlFiled under: Metareview As one might expect, the flood of reviews for Super Smash Bros. Brawl available now all talk in favor of the game. In fact, there are multiple perfect scores for the game, from a variety of different outlets. Did you expect anything different? Well, we didn't. This might top Ocarina of Time as the #1 ranked game of all time. Nintendo Power (100/100) says : "Rarely has any title delivered so much amazing action, such a wide variety of modes, and so many hours of value. It doesn't get any better than this." [Mar 2008, p.82] GamePro (100/100) finds only a small amount of fault in the game, however it isn't enough to drop the score down at all: "It takes elements of past SSB games and refines them, which is great, but players expecting an entirely new experience won't find it here. Still, it is a well round game that doesn't disappoint and it's a must buy for every Wii owner." IGN (95/100) thinks it's one of the bes ...

Best Buy's Brawl gift card doesn't come cheap - SendMeRSS
2008-03-07 20:31:02
Best Buy's Brawl gift card doesn't come cheapFiled under: SalesThe cheapest way we've found to get Super Smash Bros. Brawl so far is through Gamestop, but if you're not looking to trade in games, you can look to Best Buy instead. The retailer isn't cutting the price of the soon-to-be-beloved Nintendo fighter, but they're offering a $10 gift card when you buy Brawl and another game that's over $39.99.That's still not as good as the Circuit City deal, which also will net you a $10 gift card, but without making you buy a second game. The deal at Circuit City, though, is for preorders only. So, if you don't intend to preorder the latest Smash Bros., Best Buy may be your best bet. The offer lasts from 3/9-3/29 in stores only, and you must show them the coupon in the picture to the right (click it to enlarge).[Via GoNintendo]Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments Ads by Google Link - Comments - Candace Savino - Fri, 07 Mar 2008 18:30:00 ...

Blu-ray Xbox 360 add-on rumor resurfacesFiled under: RumorsYesterday our email exploded with news tips regarding the latest in the Blu-ray Saga. In an interview with the Financial Times, Sony Electronics US president Stan Glasgow proclaimed, "Sony is in talks with console rival Microsoft about offering a Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360." While Microsoft has since denied any HD discussions are happening with Sony, we remember that a few MS execs let it slip that this could be an option if Blu-ray won the "war," which it did. One thing to keep in mind Xbox fanboys, this decision stems from wanting to offer multiple avenues to HD content to Xbox 360 users and doesn't mean we'll see that new SKU that slaps Master Chief's next outing on a BD disc. Look! The Darkness gets free multiplayer DLC - SendMeRSS

Look! The Darkness gets free multiplayer DLCFiled under: News, Xbox Live MarketplaceAfter hopping onto the XBLM this morning, we were surprised to come across new downloadable content for none other than The Darkness. Odd, no? The new DLC can be found under the "New Releases" section of the Marketplace under the not so convenient title "Darkness MP Map: DM_Haunt" (uhh, wha?). The content features the multiplayer map DM_Haunt which is set in the streets of New York City, a new death match and team death match game mode as well as the ability to customize your shapeshifter, darkling or human character. The best part about the DLC is the fact that it is 100% free. Worst part about the DLC is that it's for The Darkness' multiplayer of which we don't know of anyone who has played it in the last three months. Oh well, free content is free content. Free MLB 2K8 downloads are a home runFiled under: News, Xbox Live MarketplaceMajor League Baseball 2K8 has been on retail shelves for all of a few days and already 2K Sports has released downloadable content to the XBLM. Usually we'd be angry when a developer releases new DLC the same week the game comes out, because A) it should have been included on the disc and B) we know they simply want to make a few bucks off the held back content. But, in this case, it's actually a good thing because the MLB 2K8 content is free. W00t, w00t! Lost Planet: Colonies achievements leaked, more info coming soonFiled under: Microsoft Xbox 360, Action Some games seem destined for pre-announcement leaks. Add to that list Lost Planet: Colonies, the supposed next entry in Capcom's third-person action series. First came name drops by both the German ratings board and the ESRB. Now, more embarrassingly, comes a full list of Xbox 360 achievements for the game, before the game has even been officially announced.360sync stumbled across the achievements, which they were later asked by Capcom to remove. We've confirmed that more information will be made available about the title next week, which leaves us plenty of time to speculate. The impressive list of achievements hints at a full single player campaign, as well as a bevy of multiplayer modes, leading us to believe that this may very well be a retail title after all, and not simply a downloadable spin-off. Check out the full list of achievements after the break.[Via X3F]Continue r ...

Turning Point is too 'high concept' for reviewers, says CEOFiled under: PC, Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, First Person Shooters Filmmaker Kevin Smith once responded to the negative reviews of his heartfelt drama Jersey Girl by stating that the film "wasn't for critics." It was a comment that attracted the attention of Penny Arcade, and even spawned some of their most memorable characters. So imagine how our favorite webcomic entrepreneurs will react to the recent comments made by Spark Unlimited CEO Craig Allen, who believes that Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is being reviewed the wrong way.Responding to recent unfavorable reviews of Turning Point, Allen stated that the game was never meant for "core gamers," and that those looking at the title with a critical eye are not the intended audience. According to him, the alternate-universe World War II FPS is a "high concept idea," enjoyable by those who just want to have fun, and aren't looking for innovation or technical ...

Throwback signs new execs, still has nothing to show for itFiled under: Business Canadian publisher Throwback Entertainment has been eerily silent since it soaked up the rights to 158 video game properties from off the corpse of the then newly eviscerated Acclaim in mid-2006, including Extreme-G Racing, Vexx, and Re-Volt, not to mention the terribly poor Rise of the Robots. This morning the company made a new announcement, this time bringing on board animation production vets Ken Duer and Eric Radomski, who join the publisher from Warner Bros. where they worked on such properties as Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Monsters, Animaniacs, and Batman: The Animated Series. Duer will serve as Throwback's new president of media while Radomski steps into the role of chief creative officer. 50 Gb not enough for MGS4 - SendMeRSS

50 Gb not enough for MGS4It seems not even the largest storage disk known to man, the Blu-ray, is enough to contain Hideo Kojima's latest creation, Metal Gear Solid 4. In a recent interview the Japanese producer said that MGS4 will push the limits of the PS3 and also the Blu-ray, saying "there simply isn't enough space". Not enough space? We're talking about 50 freakin' gigabytes and he says there's no space? There are people out there still using smaller hard-drives on their PCs, but Kojima already wants something bigger. Kojima previously announced that copies of MGS4 will only feature one voice-over language, rather than packing more on one disk like previous versions, due to storage limitations. Wii owners to help boost PS3 sales - SendMeRSS
2008-03-05 16:05:48
Wii owners to help boost PS3 salesSony may receive a helping hand from where they least expect it, says iSupply analyst, Pamela Tufegdzig, as Wii owners buy the PS3 as a second, more powerful system. According to Tufegdzig, Sony's machine has some aces up its sleeve that might help it win the next generation consoles war by 2011. The most important card in Sony's winning hand is the ability to cut PS3's price again real soon, as component prices fall. “We anticipate Sony will have another price slash on the PS3 this year, and come Christmas, consumers who originally bought the Wii will likely purchase the PS3,” Tufegdzic said. That is a plausible theory, as many Wii owners don't yet consider buying a PlayStation 3 because of its spicy price. Another important factor in iSupply's prediction is the Blu-ray player. PlayStation 3 is, as most of you know, the cheapest Blu-ray player on the market right now and even though Sony loses more than it gains with ever ...
