You can bet that Wits and Wagers is XBLA bound - SendMeRSS
2008-02-15 21:31:03
You can bet that Wits and Wagers is XBLA boundFiled under: News, Xbox Live Arcade, Game announcementsAgain, our trusty friend the ESRB has come to the rescue in fulling our insatiable appetite for upcoming (and totally unannounced) XBLA games with their latest listing for Wits and Wagers.Wits and Wagers will be a title developed by the crew over at Hidden Path Entertainment and solely for the Xbox 360. In general, Wits and Wagers is a board game where players answer trivia and place bets on which guess is closest to the actual answer. Simple enough. Though, we're curious to see how well Hidden Path can pull off a game like Wits and Wagers seeing that their only experience on the 360 is an XNA demo and creating a trivia game isn't the easiest genre to make entertaining. It doesn't really matter though. We're just proud that we discovered another upcoming XBLA game long before its announcement. We so cool! Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments Link - Comments - Dustin B ...

Better late than never: Overlord DLC on XBLM - SendMeRSS
2008-02-15 21:31:03
Better late than never: Overlord DLC on XBLMFiled under: News, DownloadsTriumph Studios' quirky title Overlord was fairly decently recieved when we got our hands on it. The humor worked, the formula was fun, plus you got minions. The Pikimin-like gameplay worked so well that the devs figured it would be a worth endevor if they put resources into DLC development. However this DLC has taken much longer than expected to get here, so it may not sell as well as it might have back in November. The two packs that were slated for last year are here, along with a third, which is new. The "Raising Hell" Pack will be 800 MSpoints and is a single player expansion, adding new locations and goals. The "Challenge" pack will be 400 MSpoints and adds 7 multiplayer maps, and a harder single-player difficulty. Finally, the "Split-Screen" Pack will enable local split-screen play, and includes a single new map.The official, in-depth, DLC description after the break:Continue reading Better late than ne ...

Panasonic designs Wii-proof plasmas - SendMeRSS
2008-02-15 21:30:07
Gagan: The incidents of breaking screens of TVs with Wii remotes are getting all too commonplace. Panasonic has decided to take matters into its own hands and has designed a new breed of plasma TVs with tough screens. It didn’t take a world of tinkering though since plasmas are more rigid than other TVs anyway. A bit of twitching and TVs were Wii-proof. The specially designed display is resistant up to 4 joules. Joule translated roughly refers to energy required to lift an apple 2 meters in the air. Figure that out! Panasonic didn’t come out all bragging in Valencia but backed its design with a LCD panel all smashed up by Wii. So, if you’re fond of your Wii and occasionally have a strong urge to hurl it at your TV, go for Panasonic’s sturdy plasmas. Wii Warm Up: New pew pew pew - SendMeRSS
2008-02-15 18:42:16
Wii Warm Up: New pew pew pewFiled under: Wii Warm Up If there's one thing the Wii has plenty of, it's scrolling shooters, vertical and horizontal. Thanks to the Virtual Console, the Wii has probably the best library of shmups in history. You can go play something like Lords of Thunder or Blazing Lazers right now without even having to go to a store first. That's pretty compelling. Which means that original disc-based shooters actually face a lot of competition from the VC. If you're just now discovering that you love shooters, you can get some of the best ones ever made for a few bucks. That could mean trouble for Castle of Shikigami III, Monkey King and Blast Works. If you like shooters, are you content with the vintage offerings? Do you feel that there's enough of a reason to continue checking out the new games, or have you been reveling in undiscovered classics?Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments Ads by Google Link - Comments ...

Aerosmith and Guitar Hero come together, leave us cryin'Filed under: News Those of you who love Aerosmith might feel a sweet emotion at this news. Activision has announced that its next Guitar Hero game will be devoted entirely to the band, fittingly called Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. Now, we like Guitar Hero and Aerosmith as much as the next guy, but we can't help but feel a little jaded; this just seems like overkill. Activision is surely livin' on the edge, releasing so many iterations of Guitar Hero in such a short period of time. As for the game itself, that's just a lot of Aerosmith. We're sure that fans of the franchise don't want to miss a thing and will just push play, but we hope Activision knows that an Aerosmith guitar game isn't an original idea. So, what's our verdict? Activision can dream on. We're not crazy, crazy, crazy for this game.[Press release via NeoGAF]Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments Ads by Google Link - Com ...

Capcom Store offering tiny Okami screensFiled under: News, ScreensThese thumbnail-size screens are the first we've seen of the actual Wii version of Okami. It looks, for better or worse, just like Okami! There are no obvious graphical improvements, and in fact nothing seems to have changed at all except for the button icons. Oh, and the aspect ratio. These screens don't show the widescreen display option available in Wii Okami. In fact, not only are they 4:3, they're 4:3 with vertical bars. In terms of actual stuff, then, these particular screens come out to like 1.2:1. Capcom confirmed to Kotaku that the game would have 16:9 widescreen capabilities, so these screens may not represent the final product. Enjoy your eyestrain! A wireless sensor bar with something extra (a wire) - SendMeRSS
2008-02-15 18:40:28
A wireless sensor bar with something extra (a wire) We're not really in the market for a sensor bar, since ours Just Works and we've managed to conceal the little cord, but if we were interested in replacing it, we'd choose CYBER Gadget's 2Way Sensor Bar. It's the most versatile third-party sensor bar we've seen. It retails for around 2000 yen ($18).The 2Way Sensor Bar can operate on 4 AA batteries when wireless play is desired, or it can be powered by the Wii's (or any) USB connection. Too bad it doesn't have internal batteries that could be charged over USB, or it would be perfect.Unfortunately, the unobtrusive design of the original sensor bar has been replaced with a Wii-imitation white slab with some lights on it. We don't really mind the clock, because, hey, if you've got a thing sitting on top of your TV, it might as well make itself useful.[Via Famitsu]Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments Ads by Google Link - Comments - ...

Goodbye Marvel MMO, Hello Champions Online - SendMeRSS
2008-02-15 17:26:12
Goodbye Marvel MMO, Hello Champions OnlineFiled under: News, MMOWith the Marvel MMO officially dead and buried, what's a poor Superhero-MMO developer to do? Turns out that Cryptic Studios, creators of City of Heroes, City of Villains, (and would-be creators of Marvel Unniverse Online) already has another project going. That explains why we've been in the dark about the Marvel MMO for so long, Cryptic's been busy with another project! That new project is called Champions Online and is based on the old-school tabletop RPG of the same name (sans "online"). Champions is still a superhero world, with plenty of customizability that should work great for the world of an MMO. The main character creation mechanic, called the Hero System, allows the player to create custom super-powers. The depth of a tabletop game with the fun of a superhero MMO? Sounds good, though we'll always miss the Marvel MMO. [Via Joystiq] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments Link - Comments - Terrence ...

January NPDs put PS3 in front of the 360Filed under: News, Console warsWell, well, well. If it isn't the lowly PS3 finally making a move in January and actually beating the Xbox 360 in terms of number of units sold in North America. Yes sir, you can color us NPD shocked and impressed.According to the just released January NPD sales numbers, the Xbox 360 has come in a disappointing third place in the console wars, only managing to sell 230,000 consoles while the PS3 moved 269,000 and the Wii sold 274,000. But before you storm the streets in a fit of rage, know that there is some sort of explanation for the third place outing ... there wasn't enough stock. You see, according to Microsoft, they haven't been able to replenish the retail channels quick enough post holidays, resulting in less Xbox 360s on shelves and less 360s available to consumers. So, if that theory makes you sleep better at night, then go with that and know Microsoft is producing 360s as fast as possible and should ...

Rumor: Two new Xbox 360 models in productionFiled under: RumorsThe blogger who famously broke the news that Bungie was parting ways from Microsoft has tipped us off to yet another internal MS situation. 8Bit Joystick is reporting that Microsoft is working on two new motherboards for the Xbox 360 to combat the persistent, but apparently dwindling, failure rates of our favorite console. Fifth and sixth generation Xbox 360's are being developed in Redmond codenamed Opus and Valhalla, respectively. In October 2007, Joystiq reported that the third generation Xbox 360, codename Jasper, was being developed for an August 2008 launch to replace the current Falcon models. The Opus is described as the "zombie Xbox 360 killer," a mishmash of working parts from current red-ringed first generation Xbox 360's (codenamed Xenon) that includes a 90nm GPU and a 65nm CPU fitted onto a Falcon motherboard squeezed into the original Xenon case, which means this console would lack the new HDMI port. Rare has new, unannounced, game due in 2008Filed under: NewsBuried deep within the latest addition of the craziness that is the Rare Community Letters page (called Scribes) lurks the possible announcement of a new Rare game, one that could see release before the end of the year, if the response is accurate. The response was to an email regarding the Viva Piñata IP and the status of new games in it. Justin, a Rare Designer responded: "The Viva Piñata team is working on a new title that we hope to be able to tell you about soon, and should be in the shops before the end of the year (it's not Banjo)."He then makes a bit of a joke about having said too much already and having to watch bad movie adaptations of good books. Or something. Either way, if read at face value, this could be confirmation of one of the "secret" games that seem to be missing from 08, and which execs like Shane Kim don't seem too worried about. What do they know that we don't? Hopefully something go ...

NPD: PS3 nearly matches Wii, outsells 360 in JanuaryFiled under: Business Looks like PS3 really is gaining momentum. January showed some incredible performance for Sony's newest home console, as it was able to beat its major competitor, the Xbox 360. In fact, it almost sold as much as the Wii, falling short only a measly 5k systems for the month. Here are the numbers: - Wii: 274K - PS3: 269K- PS2: 264K - DS Lite: 251K - Xbox 360: 230K - PSP: 230KThere's still a long way to go in this console war, but January has been quite favorable for Sony. Will Sony be able to capitalize on this newfound momentum? With a killer line-up of games for the rest of year, we'd like to think so.
