Wireless 360 controller tops battery life test - SendMeRSS
2008-02-05 20:18:52
Wireless 360 controller tops battery life testFiled under: News, Peripherals, Console warsAccording to a feature from the folks at GamePro, Xbox 360 owners can expect more gaming bang for their battery-life buck. Multiple tests on the Xbox 360 wireless controller, SIXAXIS and Wii Remote were conducted to see which one would last the longest. Scraping the bottom of the battery-life barrel was the PlayStation 3 SIXAXIS which only held out for 18 hours and 41 minutes; mainly due to the lack of auto-off functionality. Second place went to the Nintendo Wii remote, doubling Sony's time at 36 hours and 43 minutes. Xbox 360's wireless remote topped the list at 56 hours and 56 minutes. While the article states that the Xbox 360 dashboard battery indicator isn't as accurate as the PS3 or Wii, a single-day charge and play session always lasted longer on Xbox 360. In case you were wondering, the irony that anything associated with the Xbox 360 won a reliability test was lost on no one. [Than ...

A little insight on the canning of Civilization Revolution - SendMeRSS

A little insight on the canning of Civilization RevolutionFiled under: News If you've been concerned that developers are using PS2 and PSP ports as a cheap, fast, and easy way to get games on the Wii, you just may be correct. Patrick Klepek, the new face at MTV's Multiplayer blog, took some time looking into the shelving of the Wii version of Civilization Revolution and some of the issues that led to the decision.Klepek spoke with Scott Lewis, a programmer at Firaxis, and learned that the Wii version presented a challenge due to the need to create entirely new assets. What isn't addressed, however, is that the DS version likely required as much effort or care as the Wii version ... but as was revealed before, the Wii version was added late, and was releasing late, so it seems unsurprising that, when cuts had to be made, it was the one to go.For now, it seems that multi-platform titles might offer a cheap and easy Wii solution, if there's already a PS2 or PSP version, but are cross ...

Wii Warm Up: A question of family - SendMeRSS

Wii Warm Up: A question of familyFiled under: Wii Warm Up In discussing yesterday's topic, we noticed a lot of readers talking about family obligations when weighing gaming time. For those of you with spouses, live-in significant others, children, or other family members around (the folks, extended families, the aunt who drops in all the time), how does this figure into your time with the Wii? If you have children, do you let them play? If so, what's acceptable? If significant other/spouse ... do they play? Super Mario Galaxy's unsung star talks player experience - SendMeRSS

Super Mario Galaxy's unsung star talks player experienceFiled under: InterviewsWhen most gamers think of that sense of amazement the certain parts of Super Mario Galaxy seem to invoke, they attribute that moment to the Miyamoto touch, a direct result of the imaginative developer's attention and care. While it's a natural assumption to make, one shouldn't forget about Yoshiaki Koizumi, the director behind the critically-acclaimed platformer! In a recent interview with Next-Gen, Koizumi championed the importance of surprising players: "If you think about games only as a thing that you interact with, you're missing the possibility of immersion. The inspirations that I tend to draw on for that all come from real life itself. Hiking on a mountain and seeing a cave and thinking about what's inside -- it's that sense of wonder and excitement I want players to feel."Well, we certainly had a lot of that with just the Gusty Garden Galaxy!Gallery: Super Mario GalaxyPermalink | Email ...

VC Tuesday: Skeleton Crew - SendMeRSS

VC Tuesday: Skeleton CrewFiled under: Virtual Console, ImportsAfter last week, we thought Nintendo might be returning to form with Virtual Console releases, at least in Japan. We didn't get our hopes up, which is good, because we would be disappointed right now otherwise. Nintendo is continuing to do their best to make people forget about the Virtual Console, with another week light on releases. Not that many games for Japan means even fewer games making it out West. We don't even really care that the games aren't Goldeneye or Earthbound or whatever. We'd all be able to find something right for us if only Nintendo would give us a selection. At least nobody's going to have to clean out their refrigerators this week.To be fair, Dungeon Explorer II does look really great, and we wouldn't mind the opportunity to play it ourselves. And Wrecking Crew is pretty good, even if it is ancient. We're sure we'll hear about it if we are, but we don't think we're being unreasonable by saying th ...

Oneechanbara: it's a movie nowFiled under: Imports When did D3's once-budget hack-and-slash action game Oneechanbara become such serious business? Apparently, going full-price on the Wii was just the first sign of Oneechanbara's transformation into an important franchise, because an Oneechanbara movie has been announced for an April release in Japan. The movie will star Eri Otoguro as Aya, Chise Nakamura as Saki, and Manami Hashimoto as Reiko. We'll be interested in seeing if an audience who is able to cite gameplay reasons for their interest in the series will be up for an Oneechanbara with no gameplay. It's really all about the girls in costumes, this time. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 set for a March 21st releaseFiled under: NewsThis morning, Ubisoft went all-in and made the announcement that Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is set to release on March 21st. Oh joy! We also learn, via that ever so famous GoW2 issue of GamePro, that RSV2 will feature a bunch of new and exciting additions including the ability to sprint, destructible cover, faster firing rate for all weapons, online co-op and an upgraded reward system that we learned about last month. RSV2 has the potential to be great, dare we say rival other similar war games in the FPS arena and is definitely something we're going to be watching for come March. It just seems solid. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments Link - Comments - Dustin Burg - Tue, 05 Feb 2008 15:15:00 GMT - Feed (2 subs) rainbow-six-vegas-2 rsv2 tom-clancy ubisoft Sent using SendMeRss.com. Rock Band DLC and Rock Your Weekend tooFiled under: News, Xbox Live MarketplaceAvailable for download off the Xbox Live Marketplace right this very moment are all three promised Rock Band DLC tracks that were announced yesterday. And even though the new KISS, B-52s and Faith No More tracks aren't all that rocktacular, they're still part of the Rock Band DLC legacy and for that, we love 'em all the same. Complete and detailed Rock Band DLC info is outlined after the break. The other piece of today's Rock Band news is word that a special Rock Your Weekend event will be kicking off this Friday, February 8th, run through the 10th and feature ... well, we aren't certain. For whatever reason, the official Rock Your Weekend Xbox.com page hasn't been uploaded yet, so we aren't sure what Rock Your Weekend will entail. The Lunar Festival begins today in AzerothFiled under: Events, News items, Screenshots, Raiding, NPCs, Galleries This annual in-game holiday is scheduled to coincide with real life Chinese New Years. Asian style outfits, ceremonial fireworks, delicious dumplings and a once-a-year raid boss are all part of the celebration. Quests send you to find 50 coins and turn them in for various goodies as well. It's a fun RP event taking place across player cities throughout Azeroth, but mostly centered in the Druid village of Moonglade. The real question this year is if this holiday is going to upgrade the event like they did for Hallow's End. Will there be fireworks in Shattrath? Elders in Arcatraz? Revelers in Zul'Aman? Shouldn't a major celebration like this have Omen dropping some welfare epics, too? Recently they promised an older holiday would get a make over. Is this the one? We'll have until February 23 to find out.Gallery: Lunar Festival Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments Link ...

Rolling restarts for most US realms this morning - SendMeRSS

Rolling restarts for most US realms this morningFiled under: Realm News, Realm StatusIt's Tuesday, and you know what that means: weekly maintenance! This week most realms are getting rolling restarts instead of a full maintenance -- which means the vast majority of US players won't notice a thing. (Sorry, Australian players, as the restarts still fall dead in your prime evening hours.) For rolling restarts, Blizzard brings down all of the realm servers for a quick reboot (no longer than 15 minutes of downtime) one by one. (The restarts no doubt follow some kind of pattern which we are not privy to.) The restarts will begin at 5:00 AM PST, and though your realm may not be restarted exactly at five, the whole thing should be over by six or so. A handful of US realms will have a brief maintenance: an hour of downtime between 5:00 AM PST and 6:00 AM PST. Sounds like a good time for an powernap for players on: Area 52, Auchindoun, Azuremyst, Blade's Edge, Blood Furnace, Coilfang, Exoda ...

Major Minor’s Majestic March revealed for Wii by PaRappa the Rapper creator - SendMeRSS

Major Minor's Majestic March revealed for Wii by PaRappa the Rapper creatorThe crazily named Major Minor’s Majestic March is the newest game from the creators of PaRappa the Rapper (designer Masaya Matsura and artist Rodney Alan Greenblat) and is being developed by Matsuura’s NanaOn-Sha studio (also responsible for the Japanese cult-hit Vib Ribbon) with Majesco Entertainment as publisher. Also working on the title is renowned New York abstract artist Rodney Alan Greenblat who also worked on 2001’s PaRappa 2 for PS2. In the game players take on the role of “Major Minor”, and will use the Wii Remote as a baton to keep tempo with over 25 remixed international marching band songs as they become a virtual bandleader, where you must keep tempo to the tune of up to 15 different instruments. Which will not be an easy task, as several different events will try to interfere with your performance, threatening that perfect parade. Further details and a release date ha ...

Nintendo teases PAL regions with Brawl release dateFiled under: Nintendo Wii, Fighting While Wii owners in Japan are feverishly playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and everyone in the States is biting their fingernails in anticipation of the March release, we forget our friends in the PAL region, who thus far haven't even been given a firm release date for Nintendo's franchise fighter. Wii Fanboy helps us catch up with all the drama.A few days ago, Nintendo updated the Brawl page of their UK site, posting a release date of June 1st for the game. Once word had gotten out of the posted date, Nintendo quietly removed it, replacing it with the super-helpful time frame of "2008."What's even weirder is Nintendo's denial of the slipped release, claiming the update is likely a mistake as June 1st is a Sunday. Keep in mind that the official Brawl release date in the US is March 9th: a Sunday. So either it's a flimsy excuse for an unannounced release date, or the date really doesn't mean anyt ...

Rumor: Smash Bros. Brawl sells 500K on first day in JapanFiled under: Retro, Nintendo Wii, Fighting Already this week we've run leaked trailers, information and gameplay videos of Super Smash Bros. Brawl ... so why not add leaked sales numbers to that list? Cubed3 has a translation of a Japanese blog post referencing a purportedly leaked Famitsu sales report that says the highly-anticipated game sold 500,000 copies, or 80 percent of available stock, on its first day of Japanese release. The sourcing is admittedly not very concrete, but the number does seem plausible given reports of retail shortages and the game's strong showing on the Amazon Japan charts. Then again, Super Mario Galaxy only sold 250,00 copies in it's entire first week of release, and that was during the highly-charged holiday season. Has Smash Bros. Brawl shattered Japanese sales expectations, or is something getting lost in translation here? You'll know as soon as we do.Read | Permalink | Ema ...

Rumor: PS3 Slim coming this fallFiled under: Sony PlayStation 3, CES We're throwing this one in the "probably not" pile, right next to our jar of skeptical sauce. A month after the conclusion of CES, gadget site T3 is reporting that while in attendance they heard that Sony will be debuting a slimline version of the PlayStation 3 (a "PSThree" if you will). According to T3's "well-informed insider," the unit will be smaller and lighter than the current console (well, duh). While we don't doubt that Sony will eventually give the PS3 a little nip and tuck, it's still far too early in the console's life-cycle to warrant such a drastic revision of the hardware - but we're not ruling out the possibility of a new SKU in the near future. The PSOne redesign appeared over four years after the first PlayStation was launched, and the slimline PS2 didn't appear until over three years after the original.A redesigned PS3 probably wouldn't appear until late 2009 at the earliest, making the possibi ...

Rumor: Sony Prepping Slimline PS3 Sony is quietly preparing to launch a slimmer, trimmer PS3, says tech site T3 (not to be confused with the terrible Terminator movie starring Claire Danes). T3 says they got the tip from "a particularly well-informed insider" during CES last month. They also theorize that this trimmer PS3, which they guess will debut this Fall, will be host to a massive 160 GB hard drive. Rumors of a 120 GB PS3 are so earlier this week!
