Curious job listing found on SCEI career website - SendMeRSS
2008-01-18 03:28:28
Curious job listing found on SCEI career websiteFiled under: News We have been informed that a job listing has been recently added to the Sony Computer Entertainment International careers website. The listing calls for a "PlayStation 3 compatibility feature engineer" with a job role that would require the applicant to "implement and improve an emulator on the PlayStation 3 and next gen systems. Target systems:PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP".It is our responsibility to point out that this could simply be a Research & Development position for internal testing or for improving compatibility in older PS3s, to improve the number of titles which work with emulated backwards compatibility. With those more sensible ideas out of the way, we can move onto the fun speculation. The juiciest possibility being full backwards compatibility on 40GB PS3s. Not only that, but the inclusion of the PSP in the list of systems lends us to suspect that PSP emulation on the PS3 could be a possibility at some poin ...

Turok demo coming to the EU PSN Store in February - SendMeRSS
2008-01-18 03:28:24
Turok demo coming to the EU PSN Store in FebruaryFiled under: PlayStation Store, News We've been writing a lot of "X coming to Y in Z" posts recently, which we assume can only be a good thing. Compared to this time last year when the only thing we knew was coming to the PSN was Calling All Cars. With so much stuff on its way in the future, however, it does make us a little restless now, with nothing new to play. Good thing it's PSN update day.Europeans will be waiting until February 7th in order to get their first taste of Turok. That's one whole day before the game launches. Americans, on the other hand, will no doubt receive it earlier. Not only because they always receive things earlier, but also because the game is out in America this month. Don't expect to see it today, though.Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments Link - Comments - Jem Alexander - Thu, 17 Jan 2008 20:00:00 GMT - Feed (1 subs) demo ...

Bionic Commando PSN remake is stunningFiled under: e-Distribution Games Capcom really knows how to make their 2D remakes worthwhile. Super Street Fighter II features new HD sprites from Udon Comics that make it look absolutely dream-like. Their upcoming Bionic Commando continues the trend. Utilizing assets from the upcoming 3D Commando game, this revival of the NES classic adds new gameplay elements. This downloadable title certainly doesn't feel small budget at all, due to its nice graphical overhaul. It's been nearly twenty years since the original's release. Ben Judd told IGN that, "We have taken special steps to get feedback and opinions from some of the staff that were working at Capcom at the same time on other titles in order to maintain the 'classic style' of gaming that we feel Bionic Commando Rearmed needed." Japanese interest in PS3 matches Wii - SendMeRSS
2008-01-18 03:26:52
Japanese interest in PS3 matches WiiFiled under: News Nintendo's success with the Wii is undeniable. Sales of the little white console have been phenomenal in Japan. In the console world, nothing is seemingly able to touch it (except handhelds, such as the DS and PSP).But, what does the future bear for Sony's PS3? It looks like it may have a successful year in store, as a survey of Japanese gamers show interest in Sony's new system to match Nintendo's. "[When] asked which console they hoped to buy next, 28% chose the Wii and 27% picked the PlayStation 3." A single percentage point separates the two. (For comparison, Xbox 360 was chosen by 3% of survey takers.)Sony's machine is doing fairly well, especially considering its significantly higher cost. In fact, only 6% of gamers surveyed thought price mattered. 49.2% said their top concern for picking a console was "because it's compatible with the games they absolutely want to play." Let's hope titles like Final Fantasy XIII will kee ...

Leisure Suit Larry hits PS3, boasting Box Office BustFiled under: NewsSome game companies learn that when they make a horrid, insulting game that flops all over the place, they shouldn't make another one. For some reason or another, Leisure Suit Larry defies that logical rule and sucks every time he resurfaces. Maybe we're being too cruel. Out there, we're sure a couple people have enjoyed the sexual antics of a man whose stature apparently belies his charm. Now he's coming to the PS3.Enter Box Office Bust -- a name that implies the success of the gaming franchise as well as a booby joke. Larry finds himself doing some summer work at his uncle's movie lot doing odd jobs and seeking a mole who wishes to destroy his uncle's privacy by ... airing the studio's dirty laundry? Whatever, we're sure it's not important. The game boasts a pretty decent cast of voice-actors and writers, which may be necessary to raise this series from nothing into something. Are we being too harsh? We're jus ...

Street Fighter Online: Mouse Generation announced for PC Today Japanese publisher Daletto, a new company formed last year by Capcom and Games Arena, announced Street Fighter Online: Mouse Generation for PC. The fighting game includes Ryu, Chun Li, and a fighting system based on Street Fighter Alpha. Japanese beta test start in February or March, and a final release date is expected for April 2008. As the Street Fighter Online: Mouse Generation name suggests, the game is built around mouse controls. You control all the action only with the mouse by moving it in the direction you want your character to move or jump, and the left and right buttons perform, respectively, execute punch and kick attacks. Special moves are performed by combinations of the buttons and mouse gestures. IGN reports that Daletto will be using an item-based business model, where the game is free to download and play online, but you’ll have to hand over cash to purchase items in the form of character body part ...

Zero Punctuation is having a CrysisAs you might’ve been able to tell from our updates over the years, we love Crysis here. Our Crysis review rated the game 9.5 out of 10, it’s not perfect, but it’s fun and a lot of it has to do with how pretty it is. Dead Space has a rich enough story for Dead Space 2, 3, etc.In a recent interview with Dead Space’s executive producer Glen Schofield, he revealed that the story of Dead Space wouldn’t be finished in the upcoming Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 (and now PC as well) survival-horror game. The single player game is set for release in fall 2008. To quote: “I would definitely like to make future Dead Space games. I’d love for this to become a well established franchise; we’ve created a huge and rich back story and universe, so other games could easily be made.” So if the first game is a success, Dead Space 2 and other sequels sound possible. In the game you play as Isaac Clarke, a spaceship engineer on a routine mining vessel call. But it turns out they are space zombies who, if left unchecked, would be a threat to humanity, and they lurk about the enormous vessel as you try to rescue survivors. December NPD: No wonder you're broke this monthFiled under: Nintendo DS, Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation 3, Sony PSP, Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, BusinessWelcome to the introductory paragraph, where we discuss the NPD's latest US video game sales data and how it reveals 2007 to be a ludicrously lucrative year for the industry. The gaming hobby which once drew empty stares and disappointed glares from your parental units has capped a phenomenal year with December sales amounting to $4.82 billion. With the year's total sales (excluding PC games) enjoying a 43% increase over 2006 to reach $17.94 billion, it seems the industry can outright buy your uninterested mom and dad with nary a second thought.Perhaps you should consider putting your entire family (they're made out of meat, after all) up for sale in order to recoup your part of December's $2.37 billion spent on software. Unsurprisingly, the best-selling game of 2007 was Bungie's Halo 3, followed by a $10 peripheral pa ...

Fresh Winning Eleven info emerges from the tunnelFiled under: News As we have previously discussed, the Wii version of Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 will be a very different game from the version that appeared on other consoles (and we're not just referring to the Wii-specific logo above). Is that a good or bad thing? We'll know soon enough, because Konami has announced that the game will be out in March.Scouring today's press release, we also learned about a random bunch of other features that are exclusive to the Wii edition. These include the ability to fashion a squad of 16 pre-defined Miis, a "Champions Road" mode that sees you building a team from the opponents you defeat (similar to the "Gacha-get" mode in the DS version), and the way in which sliding tackles can be executed and 'keepers brought out with a shake of the Nunchuk.Oh, and it will have full online play, but if the online support is anything like other versions of the game, expect it to be absolutely ...

Alan Wake, Fable 2 and others will release in 2008Filed under: NewsSomething we forgot to mention that was included in Dan Mattrick's ever enjoyable memo was the fact that, for the first time ever, a few Xbox 360 games have been confirmed for a 2008 release.Nestled towards the bottom of Mattrick's memo he lists a few games that'll release in 2008 including the not so canceled Alan Wake and Fable 2 as well as Too Human, Halo Wars, Splinter Cell: Conviction and "several exciting yet-to-be-announced titles". Wait, did you get that? Alan Wake is no longer rumored, but is now confirmed for release this year! Double w00t, w00t to that! But don't get us wrong. We're totally happy to hear Fable 2, Too Human and the others are also confirmed for release this year, it's just that we've been in an Alan Wake drought as of late and hearing that it hasn't turned into vaporware makes us giddy. And the goods don't stop there. Mattrick also talks about the 360's third party revenue eclipsing both the Wii and PS3's totals combined and that the 360 should break the record for most revenue generated in a year, breaking the PS2's record. Video: Gates, Bach and Slash know how to rockFiled under: Fan stuff, Videos If there was one highlight from last night's CES keynote we'd have to say Bill Gates and Robbie Bach's Guitar Hero III-off was pretty entertaining. Actually, neither actually played the game as they each had their own "ringer" to play for them, but that's half the fun. We'll agree that it's a bit scripted, a bit awkward at times and a tad of a stretch, but seeing Bill Gates bringing Slash on stage and watching the over-production of it all is simply priceless.
