Wipeout HD: 1080p, 60fps and jaw-droppingly gorgeous - SendMeRSS

Wipeout HD: 1080p, 60fps and jaw-droppingly gorgeousFiled under: e-Distribution Games Did you hear that thud? That's the sound of our jaws accelerating to the floor, smashing into a million tiny pieces. New images of Wipeout HD have surfaced at PlayFrance, and they look absolutely stunning. What makes this more impressive is that all of these images will be running in full 1080p HD resolution, and at a silky smooth 60fps. That's almost unheard of in this generation of games. Imagine how exhilarating it will be to race these stunning tracks with Wipeout's trademark sense of speed. The French interview also reveals a few other interesting tidbits. Development of the game started less than a year ago, with a team of only six people. The team has grown to about 30 people now, with 3 of them having worked on the original PS1 Wipeout so many years ago. Although the game is just an HD version of the PSP games, the reworked textures and graphics will make it feel like a completely different ...

PS3 Poll Police: How was your Christmas? - SendMeRSS

PS3 Poll Police: How was your Christmas?Filed under: Polls and Surveys, CommunitySince the Poll Police were off the streets and in their homes celebrating the holiday with their family (by family we mean spiked eggnog and anyone they could yell at on the PSN via the Eye), they took a few extra days off with their weekly poll because they really just wanted to ask you: how was your Christmas? Did you get what you wanted? How was your Christmas? I got what I wanted! I got some of the things I asked for. I didn't get anything I wanted. It sucked, but I didn't have to go to work! I don't celebrate Christmas, but not working was cool. ...

Resistance 2 trademark discovered (no one is surprised)Filed under: News We all knew it was coming. Resistance 2, sequel to Insomniac's PS3 launch FPS, has been appearing in the rumor mill for quite some time now. Well, it looks like the game is getting closer to being officially announced. A new trademark for Resistance 2 was filed by SCEA, suggesting the game is being prepped for a release later in 2008. We're not surprised, really. We just like to think of this trademark filing as a little pre-Christmas gift that SCEA Claus decided to leave in our stocking.[Thanks, Mork!]Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments Link - Comments - Andrew Yoon - Mon, 24 Dec 2007 15:30:00 GMT - Feed (1 subs) resistance resistance-2 trademark Sent using SendMeRss.com. Christmas surprise has kid getting phone book instead of PS3Filed under: News How was your Christmas? Hopefully, it was better than this kids'. A local FOX News report highlights one kid's unfortunate ordeal. Upon opening his PS3 box, he found a very heavy phone book, no PS3 in sight! Granted, a phone book has tons of replayability. But, it just doesn't play games as well as a real PS3. The family will be going back to the store they bought the system from. But, what possible explanation will the store be able to come up with? Devil May Cry 4 to include hard drive install, 5.1 LPCM audio, PSN support - SendMeRSS
2007-12-27 05:34:11
Devil May Cry 4 to include hard drive install, 5.1 LPCM audio, PSN supportFiled under: News You may not like Capcom for porting the former PS3-exclusive Devil May Cry 4 to the Xbox 360. But, can you take comfort in knowing that the PS3 version is still superior than its 360 counterpart? If you watched this episode of The 1UP Show, you would've heard the 1UP editors agree that the PS3 version looks and plays better than the 360 version. In addition, a new issue of Famitsu reveals some features that are sure to make PS3 owners quite happy. An optional hard drive install will supposedly remove all load times from the game. But, be warned -- it's quite a hefty install at nearly 5GB. Not only will load times be shortened on the PS3, but audiophiles will be glad to hear that the PS3 version also includes 5.1 LPCM audio. There's also support for the PSN, although how exactly it will work is still unclear. Regardless, it makes us glad to see the PS3 version of DMC4 get extra functionality. ...

First trailer for Tales of Vesperia - SendMeRSS
2007-12-27 05:34:10
First trailer for Tales of VesperiaFiled under: Videos and Screenshots 2008 may mark the entrance of more JRPG's into the PS3's library -- this trailer is the first for the newest Namco Bandai Tales game, given the name of Vesperia. Either their character designs are getting lazy, or many of these characters look familiar to us. Since we can't understand Japanese, we'd like to assume the game relates to previous games. Perhaps even Radiant Mythology. Still, it's a decent looking game and we'd love to see more RPGs hit. Unfortunately, Namco Bandai hasn't confirmed which system it's going to be on. Namco Bandai once hinted at a PS3 RPG -- could this be it? Dragon Ball Z: what it looks like on PS3Filed under: Videos and Screenshots Want to know what a "next-gen" (aka, "current gen," right?) DBZ game looks like? Well, here it is. Burst Limit, coming to Xbox 360 and PS3, looks like no other DBZ game before it. We're sad to admit, but this Japanese debut trailer has us pretty excited. The PS2 games before it did a good job of recreating the world of Goku and the gang, but the high-fidelity visuals of this new effort really bring a whole new sheen to the franchise. We don't know how it's going to play, but it's certainly an admirable revival for a series that's now decades old.Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments Link - Comments - Andrew Yoon - Thu, 27 Dec 2007 01:15:00 GMT - Feed (1 subs) burst-limit dbz dragon-ball-z Sent using SendMeRss.com. Take-Two acquisition by EA imminent - SendMeRSS

Take-Two acquisition by EA imminentAs everyone expected, the merger between Vivendi Games and Activision that led to the birth of Activision-Blizzard, the new no.1 video game publisher in the world, didn't sit too well with, now second biggest publisher, EA Games. So they're thinking of solutions to get back in the top spot, and acquiring Take-Two Interactive seems to be their best bet.   As much as I hate to see juggernauts like EA taking over ambitious, independent developers and publishers, this is the world we live in, no matter how good you are, if you don't have the financial means to compete you eventually have to accept the compromise of an acquisition. According to many this is the fate of Take-Two, creator and publisher of titles like: GTA, BioShock, Civilization, Manhunt, Midnight Club and many more. Mike Hackey, analyst for Janco Partners, spoke with GameDaily and said that having so many popular titles, many created in-house, is in fact what makes the company such a ...

Sensible World of Soccer Pulled From Live Arcade A game-crippling bug has prompted Codemasters to pull Sensible World of Soccer from Xbox Live Arcade mere hours after it was added to the service. The bug apparently signs players out of Xbox Live and prevents them from signing back in until they manually return to the dashboard. Microsoft and Codemasters are looking into the problem. If you've already downloaded it, you'll have to delete it and redownload it when the fixed version is added to the Arcade, assuming you want to be able to play over Live. Game|Life Riffs On The Duke Nukem Forever Trailer It's almost hard to believe, but the Duke Nukem Forever trailer is actually here. Signs of the coming apocalypse are sure to follow. Doesn't really show off too much other than Duke's bulging biceps, but it's something, anyway. What do you think? UPDATE: Game|Life writers' thoughts on the trailer are below.Susan: 3D Realms has certainly mastered the quick cut, haven't they? Here, have a nanosecond-long glimpse at some monsters! I do think the boarish-looking creature bellowing amid the bloody corpses was interesting and fun, but the little I could see of the other enemies (even going frame by frame) looked somewhat ordinary. It does a decent job of capturing Duke's attitude -- blowing smoke into the camera is a nice touch -- but I'm not sure how well the shtick has aged. When it comes right down to it, if this weren't Duke Nukem (Friggin') Forever, I'm not sure how much I would care about the game based on this teaser ...

Europe Gets Wii Chess, And They Can Keep It There - SendMeRSS

Europe Gets Wii Chess, And They Can Keep It ThereNintendo of America's winter 2008 lineup is still largely undefined, but we know at least one game our friends in Europe are getting: Wii Chess. And damned if it isn't ugly. NOE's penchant for releasing basically anything occasionally lets our friends across the pond get their hands on games like Tingle's Rupee Land, but I don't envy them Wii Chess for a minute. I (of all people!) understand the principle that simple graphics are non-threatening, and that they'll likely make a ridiculous amount of money off of this, but check out this line from the official web page: "You will be able to control the movement of your pieces by simply holding the Wii Remote vertically and using the +Control Pad and A and B Buttons." So, what, you don't even use the pointer to move? Watching the video on the page seems to confirm this. From all appearances, the production values on this make Ninjabread Man look like Gears of War. Take Two: We Refuse To Milk Franchises - SendMeRSS
2007-12-19 21:47:28
Take Two: We Refuse To Milk Franchises During the firm's quarterly earnings conference call, Take Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick bluntly denied the possibility that they would be releasing new games for their main franchises on an annual basis. Zelnick claims such tactics lead to a drop in the overall quality of a title, and that Take Two is "driven first and foremost by making the best games in the business. You can't do that on a clockwork type schedule." As he continues, the CEO also makes an excellent point about the annual release cycle leading to gamers being utterly burned out on certain titles. His solution to this issue "is to develop more great franchises", an idea as clever as it is simple.Zelnick's remarks are in stark contrast to the earlier claims by Activision CEO Bobby Kotick who recently declared that the company will be "exploiting" its library by releasing a new title for "virtually every one" of its successful franchises on a yearly basis. ...

So there. The "character-driven action title" is in development at Codemasters' new Guildford studio, and is being built using the team's proprietary EGO game engine, which was last seen in Colin McCrae's DiRT. The project is being touted and teased by the company early in development partly for recruitment purposes. Warhawk expansion arrives day early, free for a fewFiled under: Sony PlayStation 3, Action Warhawk expansion Operation Omega Dawn arrived unexpectedly on PSN today, 24 hours before it was set to go live. What's more, when it first made its premature debut, it was (due to a glitch) accompanied by the bargain price tag of "Free." A few wicked folks (the same people that take a pack of mints without leaving a quarter for Jerry's Kids) managed to take advantage, but it looks like the kink in the system was worked out fairly quickly. The good news is that the pack was left up, so fans can still take advantage of the early appearance, as long as they cough up their $7.99. If you were unaware, the pack adds five new night-time maps, a new dropship and for a few (ahem) unscrupulous early adopters, the unshakable stench of shame.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments Link - Comments - Justin McElroy - Wed, 19 Dec 2007 04:30:00 GMT - Feed (13 subs ...

MCV: GTA IV to hit UK April 25Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, ActionEver since the Grand Theft Auto IV's much-ballyhooed delay to the somewhat nebulous "Q2 2008," would-be gangsters everywhere have been clamoring to know the specific date the game would hit (and Take Two has been no help on that score). Now MCV purports to have an answer, citing "senior industry sources" to pin the game's British release date at April 25, 2008.If MCV's unnamed "sources close to the game's publisher" are correct, the game would just sneak in before the end of Take Two's promised second fiscal quarter, which runs from February through April. The story gives no hint at a U.S. release date, but recent games in the series have hit our shores a few days before Britain's.Rockstar gave MCV a blanket "no comment" or the rumor, and one source hinted that we might not get much official warning from the publisher. Joystiq Interview: Kuju's download-only studio doublesixFiled under: PC, Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, Online, Interviews, Casual We admit that the opening of a new studio is not the most terribly exciting event under the sun, but that news becomes decidedly more intriguing when said studio dedicates itself to a single market, or in the case of British developer Kuju's newly opened doublesix studio, a single distribution channel. With a moniker always referred to in lowercase, we expected doublesix to be quietly reserved regarding its plans, which include developing titles exclusively in the downloadable space for Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network, WiiWare and the PC. What we found, however, was a studio that is enthusiastic about its positioning in this young, but rapidly growing segment of the video game industry. Rumorong: More exclusive GTA IV Xbox 360 content in '09 - SendMeRSS
2007-12-19 21:29:27
Rumorong: More exclusive GTA IV Xbox 360 content in '09Filed under: Microsoft Xbox 360, Business According to Take-Two there is no additional exclusive episodic content for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV beyond what was previously announced. The confusion stems from a call last night regarding Take-Two's financials where CEO Ben Feder said, "In fiscal 2009 we'll also be offering additional episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox 360." A Rockstar rep tells Next-Gen that Feder was referring to the second announced episode. The semantic crux in the statement is that if the second episode is released after Nov. 1 '08 it is part of Take-Two's fiscal '09. We already knew that the first GTA IV episode was planned to come out shortly after release, and then the second episode about a half year after that, which places it after the fiscal '09 start date. Codemasters to continue Wii's mini-game doldrums with Emergency MayhemFiled under: Nintendo Wii, Action Mini-game collections are the bitter spice of life that Wii owners have been forced to swallow time and again during the console's short, but arguably over-enthusiastic life, and while a very small handful of these games have managed to bridge the gap between tedium and genuine fun, we think the bulk of these compilations are better served at keeping sweat rings off the coffee table. The latest to join the Wii's bite-sized militia is Emergency Mayhem from Codemasters, a mini-game extravaganza that asks players to save the unfortunately-named Crisis City from "decidedly slapstick" disaster.Set for release in the second quarter of 2008, the Wii-exclusive game will let players control police, fire, and paramedic services as they race to save the accident-prone city over the course of 30 time-sensitive missions, which will include such madcap antics as tranquilizing monkeys and usi ...

Simple Block Kuzushi drops the ballFiled under: Imports, Screens While a couple of the games in the Simple Wii series have been interesting (though we can't comment on their actual quality), it's fairly apparent from screens that Simple Wii Vol. 5 THE Block Kuzushi is basically a miss, due to some questionable design decisions. The main problem is that the actual playfield is so small. About 20% of the screen is occupied by actual game, with the rest going to gaudy backgrounds and a view of your "Apian" avatar (all the Simple Wii games use the same totally cute avatar creation system). This seems like an odd choice, especially since it forces all the actual blocks and the paddle to be tiny onscreen. In addition, if there is pointer control for the paddle, we would much prefer to have the whole screen at our disposal instead of being restricted to minute movements. The other issue we can spot from screens is that, for some mysterious reason, the playfield is tilted. Tales from 2 AM - SendMeRSS

Tales from 2 AMFiled under: Analysis / Opinion, WoW Social Conventions, Odds and ends The hardest thing about playing WoW during the night shift is watching your standards for success drop as people who aren't as demented or as sleep-deprived as I am realize they have to do things like sleep and get up in the morning. Since I know I won't be able to sleep I'm fairly cavalier about it, but as the night transforms into early morning people go from let's clear Heroic Arcatraz to let's try one more time to kill this annoying boss and call it a night. That's right, Zereketh, you know who you are. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, so it can be very frustrating for me to tank a boss over and over again and see the DPS dying from stuff I can't do much about, like the Void Zones he keeps spawning right under the clothies' feet, especially when you get the boss to 1% six times in one night. Not that I'm bitter or anything.I'm sure we all like to do well.
