Rock Band (Finally) Hits PS2Yes, the band simulator is now in stores for the PS2, allowing non-next-gen gamers to rock out within the comfort of their own homes. The bundle includes the wireless Fender Stratocaster guitar controller, an electronic drum kit, real drum sticks, a microphone and software for $160. The PS2 and PS3 versions share the same instruments so players need not buy new ones if they upgrade their console.The PS2 version, developed in collaboration with Pi Studios, features the same content and modes as the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, albeit with lower resolution graphics and the complete lack of downloadable content, meaning that PS2 gamers will have to play the same songs over and over again. Angels Online Celebrates ChristmasIGG sends word that the Angels Online open beta test has been launched, and in order to celebrate the coming Christmas, they will hold “Christmas activities” between December 19 and January 2. Part of the activities includes appearance of a huge Christmas tree in the game’s central city Eden. Unfortunately, monsters have stolen all the ornaments of the Christmas tree and it is now up to the players to do something about it. During this period, lvl 10+ players can get a special Night Star from the Christmas angel; there will be two types for either genders, it can be exchanged with a member of the opposite sex and used to get a Christmas Box. The period will also see monsters dropping “xmas trinkets” which can be exchanged for special rewards. More information on the event can be found on the game’s website. Today, speaking to San Jose Mercury, SCEA boss Jack Tretton responded to the comment, calling on the boss of the number 1 publisher in America. LocoRoco Christmas demo available to download now on PSPSony has posted a LocoRoco Christmas demo on it’s Japanese web-site for download, as a nice little surprise to fans of the innovative and oh-so-adorable franchise, which was birthed on the PSP last year. Anyone can download the demo and it does not require you to own a copy of the original LocoRoco game, but your PSP must be upgraded to firmware v3.02 to play it. Sony to ship 11 millionth PS3 before end of it's current financial yearSony’s Kazuo Hirai has stated that they will ship their 11 millionth PlayStation 3 game system before the end of their current financial year, which ends on March 31st 2008. They also state that they will be pursuing a more aggressive development strategy for the future, this according to YomiuriOnline (as translated by Gamefront.de). The recent introduction of the cheaper 40GB PS3 has had a positive effect on sales as well, says Hirai, and has helped re-establish "PlayStation as a games machine". i.e. It’s not just a Blue Ray player! However, while Hirai has said that a good pricing strategy is important, he said that Sony is looking to put a lot more effort and resources into software to ensure the PS3 has a better spread of games. As long as Sony can keep hits like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Ratchet & Clank Future in the coming months and years then the PS3 should be in good in shape. ...

The DS broke the weekly UK hardware sales record two weeks ago with 185,000 units sold, and then broke its own record by selling 200,000 units last week. Talk about domination. You'll also be able to take hostages, dual wield weapons and customize your character like never before. But the most exciting Saints Row 2 feature is co-op. After a year and some games that support the technology, we still haven’t seen any breakthrough, mostly due to the high price of the card (anywhere from $130-$180). But now Ageia has announced a new deal with Japanese graphics cards maker ELSA, who will start selling PhysX cards in Japan for 6000 Yen, or just over $50. If that price comes to the rest of the world, it would be the best thing that has happened to the PhysX lineup, especially if we get some decent games that support the technology in a proper way. Videogames & Futurama, Part 2: How Zoidberg Got His Name From a Game Apple II geeks, listen up. Did you know that Futurama creator David X. Cohen named a character after an Apple II video game that he created? Or that he wants your help to get the game, called Zoid, up and running again? Cohen created the game, inspired by Atari's Qix, as a high school student. He's still got the original Apple II diskette, but he says there might be a problem getting the data off them. "Most of the copies I made, probably including the one I still have, employed primitive copy protection, in which the program checks for a bad sector on the disk before it will run," says Cohen. "If the disk could be read, someone familiar with 6502 machine language and the Apple II + OS would probably have to look through the program and fiddle with those disk-access sections," he says. E3 Returns To LA Convention Center In 2008The E3 Media And Business Summit will return back to its old home in the Los Angeles Convention Center for 2008, the Entertainment Software Association said today. Looks like all that complaining about this year's ridiculous series of suite meetings sprawled amidst the freeways of Santa Monica paid off, as the industry's biggest media event has moved back into one centralized location. The show will take place July 15-17. The ESA is quick to point out that this does not signal the return of the grand spectacular trade show environment that once filled the entire LACC. "Press events and small meetings" are the order of the day. Activision Facing Class Action Lawsuit Over GHIIIThe makers of Guitar Hero III seem to have stepped into a legal hornet’s nest lately. Not long after a lawsuit arose regarding the cover version of a song by The Romantics,  has been filed against them. The issue is the fact that despite advertising stereo sound and Dolby Pro Logic II surround-sound on both the box and the manual, the Wii version of Guitar Hero III only outputs mono sound. The company had already made plans to deal with this problem by remastering and reissuing the game to purchasers free of cost. It seems they didn’t act quickly enough or decisively enough however, as the complaints addressed in the filing include the fact that the game has still been on the shelves since the issue was noticed and that no action had been taken to warn consumers of the disparity between the advertising and the actual features of the game.
