Take-Two sells Joytech to Mad Catz

Take-Two Interactive has announced that is has sold its game accessories business Joytech to rival peripheral manufacturer Mad Catz. Joytech was a wholly owned subisdiary of Take-Two, and has been sold with all its assets, including all staff. The publisher had previously said it was planning to divest all its non-core businesses. "The sale of the Joytech assets is consistent with one of the key goals we established in our 100 Day Plan: to develop strategic alternatives for any operations that we determined to be outside our core publishing business," said Ben Feder, Take-Two's Chief Executive Officer, in a press release. "We are particularly pleased that we accomplished this goal in a manner that will allow substantially all of our Joytech employees in the US and UK to join Mad Catz, which is a highly respected provider of video game peripherals," he added. Governor Schwarzengger of California has put his administration forth as yet another crusader in the battle to ’save our children’ from the evils of ‘violent videogames’.He made a statement that mentioned the “many studies” that have shown a link between violent video games and violent behavior. In his favor however he isn’t proposing any sort of censorship at all, simply a stricter control on sales in order to prevent these games from being sold to minors. This follows on the coattails of a bill penned by California State Senator Leland Lee (yes, the very same) which was struck down as unconstitutional after Schwarzenegger had already signed it. The bill would have made selling mature-rated games to minors a criminal offense. While the price remains the same (€599/£425) the contents of the box has changed to include an extra controller and the games Formula 1 and Heavenly Sword. Generally speaking, Heavenly Sword and Formula 1 appeal to completely different tastes. Perhaps this is Sony's way of making the console appeal to different members of the family. An experimental PC game developed by the Singapore-MIT Gambit game lab hopes to introduce the visually impaired to the world of rhythm games.In AudiOdyssey, players use the keyboard to lay down the tracks of a song (similar to Frequency or Amplitude), but the game is also compatible with the Wii Remote. Since it was developed with the visually impaired in mind, AudiOdyssey relies more on audio than video, but Gambit wanted it to be enjoyable for a mainstream audience, too. Eitan Glinert, the lead researcher on AudiOdyssey, believes that sighted players won't even realize that they're playing a game designed for the blind.
