Phat Loot Phriday: Felstone Good Luck Charm - SendMeRSS
2008-03-15 04:20:02
Phat Loot Phriday: Felstone Good Luck CharmFiled under: Items, Quests, Humor, Phat Loot Phriday Now's a good a time as any to talk about a "husky loot" item (one that anyone can get) that will give you the luck o' the Irish, and one that has a pretty good quest story behind it too.Name: Felstone Good Luck Charm (Wowhead, Thottbot, WowDB)Type: Uncommon AmuletArmor: N/AAbilities: +13 Shadow Resistence, which was pretty good back when this was gear you picked up right before the endgame. But not so much anymore. A leprechaun did tell me that this thing will grant you good luck, though. How to Get It: This is the fun part -- this is actually the quest reward at the end of a fun little self-contained questline that will take you from either Stormwind (for Alliance) or Undercity (for Horde) into the Plaguelands. Yes, the Plaguelands -- it's that little lobby right before you enter the Ghostlands. Just look for those poor, lonely Argent Dawn questgivers (or just follow the s ...

"I rolled my class to PvP." - SendMeRSS
2008-03-15 04:18:29
"I rolled my class to PvP."Filed under: Priest, Analysis / Opinion, PvP, Classes, Talents, Battlegrounds, ArenaA little while ago, Drysc said in a post that "a prot warrior or shadow priest or what have you should though be able to jump into a battleground or arena and be able to do something with some small amount of success." This hasn't gone over well with many shadow priests. Even with Drysc trying to correct himself in multiple threads and insist that he doesn't mean that the class will never get more viable, a lot of shadow priests are up in arms. It's probably pretty understandable. After all, before Burning Crusade, a Shadow Priest was pretty much universally feared upon the field of battle. They seemed to take almost no damage in Shadowform, and their DoTs tore through you with ease. Even in the early days of the Arenas, you saw quite a few Warlock/Shadow Priest teams tearing up the charts. These days, Shadowform doesn't really absorb damage like it used to, Psychic Scr ...

Mass Effect Sequel Will be "Richer" - SendMeRSS
2008-03-14 08:43:13
Mass Effect Sequel Will be "Richer" The release of Mass Effect has seen much praise heaped on BioWare, but the studio has kept mum on the subject of a sequel. That is no more, as BioWare general manager Greg Zeschuk has begun speaking about the sequel, specifically addressing the side-quest system, saying that it will be “richer” than its predecessor which was criticized for being too repetitive. He talked about building the foundation of the game, stating that it will be much easier to integrate content and “make things richer” for the sequel. As expected, he does not offer any release date (it’s too early anyway) but he does look forward to the game being “smarter”. 2008-03-14 08:43:12
Feb NPD: Nintendo Regains Lead, 360 Falters Things have settled down a bit since the off beat January sales figures, and all consoles have undergone the usual increase in sales as the holidays are finally well behind us. However, not all has settled back out to pre-Christmas standards. The PS3 still seems to be living it large, although has retreated behind PS2 once again. The 360, still touted as supply constrained by Microsoft, barely edged out the PSP, while both Nintendo consoles seemed to have regained their usual lead. - DS: 587.6K - Wii: 432K - PS2: 351.8K - PS3: 280.8K - Xbox 360: 254.6K - PSP: 243.1K Industry sales for the month of February hit 1.33 billion a 34% increase driven by strong software sales and all consoles undergoing a noticeable boost. Atari Asks for Extension on Infogrames Buyout Offer Atari has informed its parent company, Infogrames, that it will not be able to respond the buyout offer made last week by the appointed deadline. Infogrames is the majority shareholder in Atari; its proposal offered to purchase the remaining stock for $1.68 a share. At the time of the offer, Atari announced that would be assembling a special committee to evaluate the offer. Atari has since hired Duff & Phelps LLC to help them sort through the financial pros and cons of accepting Infogrames' proposal, and is seeking an extension of the original deadline. February NPD: PS3 Outsells 360, But Nintendo Wins - SendMeRSS
2008-03-14 07:50:00
February NPD: PS3 Outsells 360, But Nintendo WinsIs PlayStation 3 mounting a comeback, or are Microsoft's claims of an Xbox 360 hardware shortage really to blame? The NPD results for the month of February are in, and here's how the game industry's hardware and software sales shook out: Nintendo DS -- 587,600 Wii -- 432,000 PlayStation 2 -- 351,800 PlayStation 3 -- 280,800 Xbox 360 -- 254,600 PlayStation Portable -- 243,100 As is immediately obvious, Nintendo is still on top in every conceivable way: It's got the top-selling portable by a mile, the top-selling home game console, and moved more hardware total than either of its rivals. Which is especially impressive when you look at how well PlayStation 2 did this month, as the top-selling Sony system by far.PlayStation 3 outsold Xbox 360 by a hair for the second time so far this year. Microsoft pre-emptively told Reuters yesterday that it would be because of a hardware shortage of the Xbox 360. We'll just ...

Buy Commando 3, Beta Test Street Fighter HD - SendMeRSS
2008-03-14 07:49:57
Buy Commando 3, Beta Test Street Fighter HD If you're dying to get your hands on Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, you'll get to play it sooner than you think. Capcom has announced that anyone who purchases Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 on Xbox Live Arcade will be eligible to beta test the high-def update of Street Fighter. After you buy the $10 Commando 3 when it releases this spring, you'll be able to download the beta version of SFII. Capcom says the beta will run for eight weeks, and feature Ranked matches, Tournaments, and the clever Quarter Match mode from the previous game. You'll be helping Capcom fine-tune the game's online performance. Here's the catch: The beta will only feature Ryu and Ken fighting on a single background. Somehow I don't think that'll stop anyone from signing up and having tournaments. Link - Thu, 13 Mar 2008 08:00:12 GMT - Feed (1 subs) Sent using SendMeRss.com. Visit here to unsubscribe from Wi ...

Lost Planet Colonies: All the Details - SendMeRSS
2008-03-14 07:49:57
Lost Planet Colonies: All the Details Lost Planet fans, get ready to pony up again. You've bought the Xbox 360 original and the feature-enhanced PlayStation 3 version, and now it's time for another upgrade. Capcom confirmed today that Lost Planet Colonies, an expanded version of the shooter, will be released on May 28 for 360 and PC. Now this is the Capcom we all know and love! I was wondering where they'd gone. Luckily, this version of Lost Planet will only run you $30. And if you're a fan of the critically lauded post-apocalyptic action game, you'll agree that this upgrade is worth the three bills. Cross-platform online? Yes. First-person and Resident Evil 4-style camera modes? Also yes. A multiplayer match where one player is a giant bug? Yes: Lookin' sharp, Player 7. The only thing Lost Planet Colonies won't have is backward compatibility with the previous edition of Lost Planet. Capcom's official line is that there was "simply too much" ad ...

Eidos Making Elite Beat Agents Ripoff With 'Looney Tunes' - SendMeRSS
2008-03-14 07:49:57
Eidos Making Elite Beat Agents Ripoff With 'Looney Tunes'Craving more of the Elite Beat Agents' special blend of touchscreen rhythm action? Looks like you'll be able to get it from an unlikely source: Eidos and Looney Tunes. Eidos announced Looney Tunes: Cartoon Conductor for Nintendo DS today, and a cursory examination of the first screenshots reveals that the gameplay is very likely lifted wholesale from Elite Beat Agents. I'm not even just talking about the tap-circles-to-the-beat mechanic. Look at the multiplier counter! The score! The life bar! The only thing the game seems to add is the mysterious golden carrot and a meter that seems to show how far along in the song you are. Now, I'm not saying this is a bad thing. Imagine if this game, developed by Amaze Entertainment, is actually fun. Playing along with classic Looney Tunes orchestra music while clips from the cartoons play? I'd be all in. We'll find out whether they nail the particulars in June, when Loone ...

Nordic Game Jam's Taboo Games Feature Cannibalism, Farting - SendMeRSS
2008-03-14 07:49:56
Nordic Game Jam's Taboo Games Feature Cannibalism, Farting Last month, 134 developers gathered at IT University in Copenhagen for the Nordic Game Jam '08, during which they came up with 19 game demos in just under two days. The theme of the Game Jam was "Taboo," to ensure that participants' concepts would be more artistic and less commercial in nature. There were few rules, other than that the game had to have a game loop, be winnable, playable with a controller instead of just a mouse and keyboard, and it had to be multiplayer. Participants pitched games with themes covering everything from torture (yeesh) to pedophilia (bigger yeesh) to truly scary things like PMS (don't even go there). Forty hours and nearly 300 beers later, the 19 different teams had 15 minutes each to present their products of their labors to the crowd. The winner, as chosen by a jury populated by members of both the gaming industry and academia, was Love Child, a game in which you and your mate ...

2008-03-14 07:49:56
Impressions: Capcom Digital Day Delivers Downloadable Delights SAN MATEO, California -- Kicking off the Digital Day press event this week, Capcom's Chris Kramer said that 2008 will be "the biggest single year in company history." That remains to be seen, but if its slate of spring and summer games is the yardstick, it's gotten off to a good start. Over the next few months, Capcom's "digital initiative," announced at last year's press briefing, will finally be in full swing. Capcom is using digital distribution to revive several of its lapsed franchises, like 1942 and Commando. The inexpensive nature of downloadable games, and the fact that Xbox Live Arcade gameplay typically hews close to classic arcade style, means that the company can take a chance and continue some classic game series without having to radically redesign the core concepts. While most other publishers are launching their downloadable games on single platforms, Capcom will launch all ...

Capcom's Xbox Live Games Exceed Size Limits Looks like those widely publicized Xbox Live Arcade file size limitations aren't set in stone after all. Two of Capcom's upcoming digitally distributed titles will be larger than Xbox Live Arcade's current size limit of 150 megabytes, said Capcom senior director of communications Chris Kramer at the publisher's office this week. During a presentation at Capcom's recent "Digital Day" media event, Kramer told the crowd that the company's upcoming games Bionic Commando: Rearmed and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be larger downloads, to accommodate the high-res textures of the former and the 1080p display option for the latter. Kramer characterized this as Microsoft making a "very special exception" for Capcom.Ben Judd, producer of Bionic Commando, told 1up.com in an interview at the Game Developers Conference that the Xbox 360 version of the game would not look as good as the PlayStation 3 version because of the siz ...

Sony Online, Sony Computer Entertainment Hook Up - SendMeRSS
2008-03-14 07:49:54
Sony Online, Sony Computer Entertainment Hook UpSony made a long-overdue move today: It brought San Diego offshoot company Sony Online Entertainment under the auspices of Sony Computer Entertainment in Tokyo. Wait, you thought this was already the case? That would be a fair assumption, but no: SOE was, up to this point, part of Sony Pictures. Their relationship with Sony Computer Entertainment, believe it or not, was much like any other third party game maker's. Mind-boggling, I know. So it's good to hear that SOE president John Smedley will now report directly to SCEI president Kaz Hirai. The shift will not change Sony Online Entertainment's game lineup -- they'll still develop games for the PC as well as Sony platforms. What it does mean is that they are now, for all intents and purposes, a first-party studio and will work much more closely with SCE. Blu-ray players more expensive after format war victory - SendMeRSS

Blu-ray players more expensive after format war victoryFiled under: Blu-ray With Blu-ray declared the winner of the HD format wars, players have been going up in price. Without competition from HD DVD, Blu-ray players from Samsung, Sony, Sharp and Panasonic have actually gone up: to their highest 2008 prices yet, according to TG Daily. It appears that the PS3 is still the best value for those looking for a Blu-ray player. Not only is it one of the cheapest (at $400), it also can play upcoming BD Profile movies, which utilize an internet connection. Current standalone players are unable to use this feature and will be incompatible with many features in upcoming Blu-ray releases.TG Daily has some keen words of advice: "Ironically, although Blu-ray has been declared the winner, it is right now about the worst time to invest in a standalone Blu-ray player, because of the high prices and looming obsolescence. Many of the current Blu-ray manufacturers have announced new players that wil ...

User-generated tools for Home may be "Holy Grail"Filed under: NewsWe know that Home is going to be a pretty big push for in-game advertisements. Maybe not so much a push, but a testing ground for what will and will not fly with gamers. But user-generated content and the tools provided to the regular ol' gamer will be the Holy Grail, says creative director Ron Festejo. These tools to assist us in creating original content will be sparse at first, but over time, he hopes to provide everyone with more involving tools.Of course, there's going to be lots of moderation with this type of thing. We don't need someone wearing shirts with phallic symbols all over them. We'll also be given tools to report and self-moderate this type of thing. Home is probably going to take a lot of lessons from LittleBigPlanet when it comes to what and how heavily to moderate user-generated content. Will you use tools to customize your Home experience? Microsoft predicts 'hollow victory' for PS3 in Feb/Mar - SendMeRSS

Microsoft predicts 'hollow victory' for PS3 in Feb/MarFiled under: BusinessEvery company has to put some spin on the monthly NPD numbers. But this month, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg is taking a preemptive strike. NPD numbers will come out later this today, and already Microsoft is trash-talking the PS3. "Our expectation is that because of our shortages at retail during February, we will sell less than PS3," he told Next Gen. "That's not a surprise to us. I don't know what Sony's reaction will be to that, but it will definitely be a bit of a hollow victory. The competition sure didn't show up [in February]."However, it looks like MS is also conceding March figures as well, saying that their so-called supply issues will be rectified in April. "By April, we will be in a very healthy inventory situation," he told Reuters. This is a crucial month for both console manufacturers, as the release of Grand Theft Auto IV will certainly stir up the charts. Will Xbox 360's exclusive DLC make a ...

A couple of people made comments that basically say there is no magic number for Hit rating that you need to be at, and this is true. I'm not advocating stacking hit at the expense of all your other stats. There should be a balance, and you don't want to gimp yourself in other areas just to stack Hit rating.Today, one of the things I'm talking about is the Expertise cap, which should be viewed in a similar light -- the information is there so that you can make good decisions regarding your gear. Don't just run out and start stacking Hit and Expertise and leave your other stats to twist in the wind. Continue reading ...

The obvious report: Wrath will not require VistaFiled under: Analysis / Opinion, Blizzard, Forums, HardwareJust in case you were wondering (or if your friend used the mediocre Shadowrun FPS as proof that all games from now on will require Vista), no, we're almost sure that there's no way Wrath of the Lich King will require Windows Vista to run. In fact, even though Neth is only kind of certain in the thread, we'll make it 100%: you won't need Vista to run the next expansion. Not only is Vista not exactly setting even high-end gamers' hearts afire, but Blizzard is traditionally about as lenient as it gets on system requirements. They did up the ante a little bit when Burning Crusade was released, and we do know that Wrath will require a little more of your computer with those shiny ice shaders (not too much more -- they may ask for more RAM or a faster than the current 800mhz processor). But as much as Microsoft would love what may again be the best selling expansion in the world ...

The life and death of Stefen Colbear - SendMeRSS

The life and death of Stefen ColbearFiled under: Paladin, News items, Humor, WoW TCG He's a man of myth, legend, and internet memes -- a Paladin crusader for Truthiness, justice, and the Alliance way. His name is Stefen Colbear, and he's putting the Horde on notice. That's how it would have been anyway, but sadly, this hero never came to be. Upper Deck hired artist Todd Lockwood to produce the above image for a special WoW TCG card inspired by The Colbert Report's Stephen Colbert -- a known video-gaming and role-playing enthusiast. Lockwood's finished product depicts a microphone-sword wielding Human Paladin named Stefen Colbear, who exudes the very essence of Truthiness.Unfortunately, Colbert's agent nipped the idea in the bud. According to Lockwood, he didn't even show the artwork to his client. Blizzard and Upper Deck presumably had hoped Colbert would feature the card on his show, giving them mega-publicity. An unknown individual leaked the image onto the net a few weeks ago ...

Mass Effect II will have 'richer' side questsFiled under: Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, RPGs In an interview with MTV's Multiplayer, BioWare General Manager Greg Zerschuk says Mass Effect II's side quests will be "a little bit richer."
